If you are implying Lienart situation...
I don't think that he was implying that specifically. I think that he was refering to the thinking, league wide, that it is a good idea to draft a QBOF in the first round and have him sit and learn. Then that thinking will tell you that any other position that you draft HAS to contribute immediately.

I agree.

Lets put it into a little more perspective as well. If wouldnt mean AP would be riding the bench, in fact far from it.

Wiz stated that he wants to run the ball 58% of the time. Teams run about 1000 plays a year, which means we will probably be running the ball 580 times a year. Now Edge is going to get his 20-22 runs a game as the main guy. That leaves about 228 the 260 more rushes left for other players. AP would most likely be running the ball at a minimum 10 times a game (more times then a WR would touch the ball in a game) with Shipp/JJ making up the rest. Add that to the fact that we wont have to worry about the RB postion for the next 6 years.

I would give a C grade to free agency. We did sign some average players but we did not address some key positions. LT and OLB are the two biggest but RT could also use some improvement. Using roster bonuses instead of signing bonuses prevented us from signing additional quality players. We overpaid to sign average starters and backup players. Maybe my C grade is too generous.

What????

The team decided in a relatively poor FA off season, to NOT overpay for average talent.

Further, they used cap room to accelerate payments to existing players and roster bonuses to the new, which will assist greatly in giving the Cards cap room in hopefully better FA classes to come.

I give "A" for accounting, and a "B" for the FA's re-signed and newly signed.

I expect that O-line and Linebacker issues will be addressed during the draft, but frankly, the loss of Orlando Huff is an addition by substraction.

And whether it's Ross, Gandy or a rookie at LT, if they give up less than 8 sacks and a dozen, or so, penalties they'll be adequate replacements for Big.

If Darren Urban likes it, I like it. The guy is smart, hard-working and honest and open with his opinions.

I like their plan.

I don't think they're saying anyone is annointed starter on the O line but now at least the depth is getting better and as long as a converted DT is now not able to make your roster as a reserve Olinemen then your fortunes are in fact improving.

I like the fact our guards are upgraded in Milford brown and Duece Lutui you need the no neck grader crew and we now have that.

Wells to me is the most athletic and should play left tackle for us, he won't be great for the run game push but he'd be adequate with average to good pass protection up against some of the other teams premier rushers, that leaves one hole to fill at RT, currently we at least have Ross there for depth, we need a horse to plug in there, maybe that's Gandy, I don't think so, and Deuce isn't my first choice there either, both are guards who at some time have played some tackle, not particularly well, but they've played it.

So if we get Thomas then all is well, you move Wells to RT and are done with the line.

If you don't get Thomas, I guess you opt for a lower round depth guy to plug in behind Ross and pray.
