I think he's the best back up on the market and we have only one QB on the payroll. He has looked very good in preseason games and fill in duty for the Giants the last two years. He has not thrown an INT since 2007.

As I stated before, he was never given a chance in Houston. As an expansion, they got their franchise quarterback and no protection for him.

In no way did I imply he was the 2nd coming of Warner, but I think the Cards are doing the right thing by targeting him early.

I respect your opinion but just don't see what the Cards or others here see in Carr. Hopefully we will not have to watch our backup play a snap this year.

We also reportedly have interest in Pennington and Charlie Batch.

Somers reported that along with Culpepper and re-signing St. Pierre

They all have one thing in common: very injury prone.

Getting an experienced back up means we don't have to consider a QB until deep into the draft.

experienced or proven backup? Thats why I say no to Carr
Are you baseing your opinion of Carr when he was starting on the Texans? If so I don't think you should. His OL was AWFUL and the only player he had on there during his time there was Andre Johnson.

As far as him being a backup he has done decent with the Panthers and last year with the Giants since they actually had a good OL.

He would be a good fit as a backup as would Pennington.

there seems to be a good chance Pennington stays in florida. If thats the case, Carr is a good way to go.

From the comments below

  1. dboom92 says: March 3, 2010 4:29 PM I've watched him carefully as a Giant fan and if the Cards line can protect, Carr can play... Especially with those receivers, it's a good place for him.
  2. BoxcuttaStyle says: March 3, 2010 5:46 PMI am a Giants fan and agree with this 100%. If he's protected he can light it up. I'm actually upset the giants didn't decide to keep him. I liked the insurance the Gmen had in him.

Why does it have to be Carr "OR"? We'll still need a 3rd QB so a rookie isn't out of the question (although I do not like Pike and hope he isn't in the equation at all).

I have to admit that David Carr makes a lot of sense for what the Cards need as a backup QB. I was so tired of hearing about Chad Pennington whose arm was questionable BEFORE he turned his shoulder into hamburger for the 3rd time.

This idea I like. Carr has a chip on his shoulder and desperatly wants to prove his worth. The idea of coming here would be intriguing to him with a chance to eventually be the starting QB that throws to Larry Fitz. I see MUCH better upside with him than I do with Chad Pennington or Charlie Batch. At least he still has a chance to re-write his script.

IIRC Somers was just listing guys that the team could look at. He didn't say that we had any real interest in any of them.

Charlie Bath makes sense. He has played in Whiz's system and, when he has gotten the oppurtunity, has actually played pretty decent. Leinart, Batch, and a rookie would be OK with me. Batch has to check out medically though.

Why not Chris Redman? played decent for Falcons the last couple of years and has starting experience in ATl and Baltimore.

Would be happy if we sign Carr. Good backup in my opinion.

Totally agree with you. Fills a need and not a big contact signing. Also there is really not a great list of free agent qbs. If Matt gets hurt and really fails we would have an experienced starter.

I like Chris Redman, but for some reason I think that the Falcons are going to outbid people for him. For whatever reason, he seems off the market.

Nice little player, though. I wonder if he's looking for a place where he could at least compete for a starting job. He'd look good in San Francisco.

I would love Carr. Has to be better than St Pierre.

Just get someone who has been an NFL starter before. Our backups are not ready for prime time. Matt may very well get injured and miss some games. We need someone who has done it before. Carr would be fine with me.

I think it's kind of funny that so many are down on Carr but fine with Batch. What did Batch ever do as a full time starter? He's looked pretty darned good as a backup for the Steelers but he ALWAYS gets hurt...as a BACKUP!!! Carr struggled as a starter just like Batch(although Carr did lead the league in completion % his last full year in Houston with Kubiak in his first year) and just like Batch, has looked good as a backup.

Carr is 30, Batch is 35 and been injured how many times?

I'm with you there, Moklerman. Carr > Batch, by a lot.

Just so we're clear: Familiarity with a system is a big deal for Brian St. Pierre, but not for Charlie Batch. Even though Charlie Batch has proved that he can... you know, complete passes in an NFL game and everything.

If it were between David Carr and Brian St. Pierre, whom would you be advocating for?
