An ok mini-finale. At least it moved faster then some of the previous episodes. B / B-
Actually, the writer's strike and the downtime it forces might be good for the show.
I really think the creative team broke down this year. Maybe too much pressure being the GE/NBC 'ratings hero'. Maybe too much online/alternate content creation sapping creative focus.
All I do know is they really need to circle the wagons and come up with some plot threads that they can stick with over a season or two, in and amongst the episodic trials and tribulations. Waaaay too all over the place in the last 11 shows.
Another thing - a great part of the show might be it's downfall.
It is so willing to accelerate the plots...characters killed, entire story arcs played out in an episode or two. Very gratifying and great for awhile, but now I'm left wanting more substance. Kind of like dessert.
Shows can go too far to either side. More often they make the mistake of dragging out plot threads forever, with no reveal, with no viewer rewards. XFiles and Lost at their worst were like this.
On the other hand, you have to build some emotional investment and substance with the audience. It can't all be dessert. Heroes needs to move back in that direction, without loosing its uniqueness. They had some nice moments last year. Not so much this year.
Oh, and don't ya love the 'online, live action' version of the show they plugged tonight?
Hmmmm...why online? Cause then they don't have to pay the Writer's Guild!
What's that phrase? "stay classy NBC...stay classy!"
