On Saturday night, I had Donald and his 6yo and 4 yo over to watch Star Wars: A New Hope. Now they have all seen it dozens of times, but my gf Erin had not. :)

She sat though the whole thing and said afterwards that she enjoyed it. During the movie, I pointed to Donald's son, transfixed to the screen, and said "That was me 25 years ago". :)

Next up...Empire Stikes Back.

You made her watch them in release order.... nice.

I can't get my wife to watch them. She tried to watch LOTR with me, and was turned off from the very beginning. She thought that Star Wars and Star Trek were the same thing, even referring to them as 'Trek Wars' at one point.

After Star Wars is the Godfather trilogy, then Casino/Goodfellas, then the collective works of QT. Trying to bring her along slowly. She kills the TV DVDs though. We finished the first three seasons of Entourage in a couple of weeks, as well as Big Love S1 and are rewatching all the Office.

Before we watched Star Wars, I asked her "So what do you know about these movies?". She replied, "Not too much. Just that Darth Vader is Luke's father. There is some hairy guy named Chewbaca. :)".

Me = :thud:

abomb, has she seen all of the Sopranos? Perhaps you could watch all the episodes from the beginning.

She hasnt. I'm working on a list of things to watch (basically to catch her up with all the series I have seen). She said she wants to watch '24' also.

Arrested Development is a must as well.

Yeah, that was pretty funny. Dante loves him some Star Wars.

I still don't understand my luck...my wife grew up on Star Wars...she loves the shows/books I love. We have very similar tastes...I coudln' even imagine her not getting excited about something I'm excited about...sure, there are small things but the big stuff we jive on all the time. I couldn't even imagine her talking about Trek Wars.

Donald's wife also used to play D&D with her older brother. I think she was Carlos the Dwarf.

My wife was a very sheltered, only-child. There are tons of these things that she knew nothing about. Basically little TV, no movies that had violence, nudity, science fiction. No video games, she didn't know what a pinball machine was.

I was able to get my wife into liking 24, but that's about it.

Donald, you and your wife and me and my wife need to hang out. I'm lucky, like you. She's a bigger Star Wars fan than me. If my wife were a die-hard Simpsons fan like me, I would question how far our family tree branches.

I'm 7 years older than her, so she likes to hear me talk about seeing the Star Wars films as a kid in a theater. The first Star Wars is my generation's Woodstock.

My wife doesn't play video games, though I'm sure she will play the Wii. But she can appreciate them (especially since it was my job for 5 years) and can talk about them...she just doesn't have the patience to play them and learn controls, etc.

Sometimes I wonder the bolded part myself, but she's far more attractive than I am.

Yep, sounds like the Wii is right up her alley.

My wife can kick my butt on Halo and is constantly jonesing for a networked free-for-all of Doom or Doom II. It's all I can do just to keep the xBox in working order so I can play my sports games when she's not around. Literally had moments where I had to pry the controller out of my wife's arthritic grip.

Her father bought us and my wife's brother an xbox for wedding presents years ago. Why? So we could get networked and play family Halo sessions. Yep, even my father-in-law is a gaming phreak.

I think I married into a family of uber geeks. The men in the family live at Fry's Electronics and build all their own machines. For his birthday, I got my brother-in-law a shirt that says "I see fragged people," and my wife thought it was the funniest shirt she'd ever seen. Yes, she "got it."

I fear for our children. The only way they're going to be able to rebel from the parents is to study hard and read lots of books. They're going to hate television, movies, DVDs, electronics, and especially video games.
