Nash is the MVP, no question. Dirk played well overall, but when it counted the most, he made crucial mistakes, and this separates very good players from MVPs.
of that game. still more games to be played. are the ballot castings in the morning? If they are nash wins.

30-16-6 isn't bad from dirk either. I agree that steve nash had a better game though more importantly in the final min. of the 4th where the game was drastically changed.

NASH 2 Rebounds short of a triple double. Damn Steve. Just no effort. I guess that settles it. Dirk is the MVP. Also Greg Anthony was right. We have no effort players. :sarcasm:

Dirk choked. He missed a crucial free throw that would of sealed the win. He then misses a game-winning shot in the first overtime and then he had that stupid technical. He is not the mvp. Nashed showed how clutch he is tonight and he also showed he is not a crybaby like Dirk and Mark Cuban.

I agree that he choked on the FT. Only because he shoots 90% and he usually makes those. I don't fault him for not making those buzzer shots. Those were difficult shots. People are so used to dirk making those types of shots.......so a miss is magnified. I don't think he should be looked down upon for missing those shots or taking a tech. This was an emotional game. and i enjoy watching players have that fire within.

It was a stupid time to get a technical, but he had been complaining a lot, and to the same ref as EJ mentioned!!

It wasn't a great time to take a technical. But obviously if you feel like you were fouled the normal reaction is to complain. Players do it all of the time. Dirk should have been called for a tech the 2nd time when he was complaining about amare shoving him in the back. I thought he did more that time. but they didn't call it. I don't blame him for being upset though.

This was not just one regular season game, this was one of the most if not the most important reg. season game with all the hype and expectations. I'm sure that this game will have a big effect on the voting.

There is only one more Suns vs Mavs game, Dirk has to show up then.

I agree. and right now this game is fresh in the mind of voters and fans. But after the next game and the end of the season......voters will look at the whole picture. They won't only look at this game tonight. Either way...I do agree that dirk has to get a victory on the 1st if he expects to be the favorite.

Maybe fans will but you give the media too much credit. Dirk probably lost a bunch of voters tonight in the media. Since we know the media doesn't watch every single game this was probably huge in terms of the MVP.

you are correct. but they will watch the next game. and they will look back at the first two. They will look at the whole season. the mvp race was not won or lost tonight. both players still have a lot of games left. either way. i have no problem with nash winning. if there was ever a year (that i can remember) where two deserve the trophy. i think this has been the year. for me it almost reminds me of the vince young/reggie bush heisman race.

They might look at the last 3 of the season, anyone with have a brain could see the first game didn't count for much; as BOTH teams stunk at that point.

and really it's the last two they will remember.

I disagree with they will look back at the first two part. Up until the Mavs going on their streak Nash was considered ahead in the MVP race despite that game. It wasn't until Steve got hurt, the Suns lost and the Mavs went on the streak that some felt Dirk pulled ahead.

So unless Steve has an absolute horrid game against Dallas next outing I think Steve just got it tonight. That game aside both guys are going to perform for the rest of the season.

I don't understand your logic there. From what i've heard nationally, steve and dirk have been neck and neck since both teams pulled out of their early season funk. It just depends on which analyst you listen to.....or from what city. The MVP is a regular season award. I'm pretty sure the voters look at the whole picture. I don't think they just look at one game. If Dallas has a better record, beats phoenix the next time out, and dirk just does what he has done, he has a great shot. then this game wouldn't be the complete deciding factor. As i've said previously. If the voting was in the morning...nash has my vote.

We shall see. Historically I think voters pay more attention to recent play versus play at the start of the season. I agree this game shouldn't be the only factor. In fact it's not. They are both having banner seasons. Both guys are not going to let up. So if they both come out and have a great game next time it's still Steve's. I think it would take a bad game by Nash and a great game by Dirk IMO.

I think if dallas wins the next game and finishes with a better record.....dirk still has a great shot as well. It's going to be close either way because you know both players will play well. It's obvious that voters will remember the recent past. That's why i keep saying nash would win it in the morning. But i stand strong on the fact that the mvp was not won or lost tonight. The first two games will be remembered because people still play back that nowitzki shot. Obviously the nash 3 will be shown. And whatever happens the next game. If the mavs win the next game, the first game will be meaningfull because voters will see a 3-1 advantage. That again won't necessarily be the deciding factor, but it won't hurt dirk's chances either.

This was the biggest game of the year, period. Nash won it for PHX, and Dirk had a chance to do the same for Dallas and failed. That sticks in the minds of the voters.

But don't worry, Dallas Fans, the Nash haters will be in full force in about a week or two (Greg Anthony on ESPN NBA Fastbreak).

I agree. but that was still a head to head game......and both teams played well as they never looked back since. That game won't be remembered like the last two, but it won't be completely forgotton either. I'm just trying to be honest.

The problem with Nash is that he's not clutch, he's old and he wears down.

Love that... :biglaugh:

BTW, Mribnik, change your avatar to show the smirk on Nash's face when he knocked the ball of Jason Terry and pointed to show Suns posession... that now reigns as the best 'Nash' face of the year.

don't fool yourself Dirk/Nash is much more important in the MVP race than Dirk v. Mike Dunlevy.

The Valley so low.
I'd vote for Nash, of course, but I wouldn't say Dirk had a poor game--remember that shot he made in the first OT, after Marion swatted the ball out of his hands? Nothing but net. It wasn't one of his best games, but he had great clutch games against us last WCF. I still think Nash's performance is more unique and means more to his team, year-long. And he sure was clutch tonight.

well said. can't argue that......except means more to his team. that's obviously a big debate.
