According to The Hollywood Reporter, Summit Entertainment is remaking the 1986 sci-fi cult hit Highlander, with Iron Man co-writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway on board to pen the redo.

The Russell Mulcahy-directed original starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown as immortal beings. Lambert played Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod, Connery an Egyptian and Clancy a barbarian known as the Kurgan. The movie spawned four sequels and three television series.

Summit acquired the rights to remake the cult classic from Davis/Panzer Productions. Peter Davis, one of the original producers of the 1986 film, will also produce the new version of the film.

It shouldn't be too difficult to find a better actor than Lambert(he is awful) and improving the special effects is a given.

Its a great story hopefully they don't mess with that too much.

Better acting with a tighter script? I would go for that. I enjoyed the highlander movies for a while then they seemed to get side tracked and started to "play games" with the rules they set in earlier films. Then just when I thought they would go into more back story on how they were banished etc...that fizzled too. They just lost me after that and just got worse.

This franchise is not untouchable to me.

The Highlander is the only one. There can be only one. There were no other movies..propoganda lies fed to us while we were hypnotized after being weakened with fluoronated water. Same with the TV show

Seriously, Lambert's not the best actor, but he did very well in Highlander IMO. It is a great movie, a CLASSIC film, that does not need touched.

Connery and the Queen sound track are the only two things that should remain the same about the movie. Don't even mind Connery's accent in the role of a Spanish swordsman. Whatever. Get rid of everything else, especially that annoying, square-jawed Roxanne Hart.

Connery and the Queen sound track are the only two things that should remain the same about the movie. Don't even mind Connery's accent in the role of a Spanish swordsman.

Thank you. Was it full of Oscar-worthy performances? No. Did it have a lot of campy acting? Absolutely. Did that kill it? No way. It added to the fun, IMO. It was a GREAT movie. Guys that are so critical, if you didn't like the movie at all just say so and move on. No reason to remake it if you think it was bad.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate/Summit Entertainment has set 87Eleven stunt coordinator-turned-director Chad Stahelski (John Wick and the upcoming John Wick Chapter 2) to helm their long-gestating Highlander reboot. Neal H. Moritz and Peter Davis will produce the film, with a search for new screenwriters currently ongoing.

“I’ve been a huge fan of the original property since I saw it in high school,” Stahelski said. “Such great themes of immortality, love, and identity are all wrapped up in such colorful mythology. I can’t think of a better property that gives the opportunity to create interesting characters, mythic themes and action set pieces.”

In development since 2008, the last update came in 2014 when it was announced that director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan (The Huntsman: Winter’s War) was going to reboot the Highlander franchise with Tom Cruise potentially playing a role similar to Sean Connery’s immortal Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez.
