Yep, I don't know why I even bother watching the draft anymore.

People are getting pissed, but realize that they did this in order to sign TT.

They mortgaged the future. They could have bit the bullet for a year or two and still signed TT to the MLE. There's a reason the NBA created the Stepien rule; he killed the Cavs by selling first round picks for jack squat year after year. Sarver has started his first two years in the NBA doing much the same. No frickin' wonder BC wanted to go to Toronto.

You think D'antoni had no say in this?

What the hell can D'Antoni do? Sarver doesnt want to spend money on our first rounders and TT so he tells the front office to choose.

We don't have the money to create depth through free agency, yet our only chance to do it was through the draft and we sell the picks for money.

the people that say this is cool cause we're signing thomas:

1st of all, brian grant is $1.8M, that's it!

2nd of all, if you had a chance to fill exactly your need, with a dirt cheap rookie contract of $1M no less, or a chance to trade out to for a 22-30 draft pick next year, would you do it?

Not a good call.

the question is what did the suns think of marcus williams? he guy is a pass-first dude, loves to run the break, and has the ability to become a decent shooter.

marcus williams made sence. Saving cap makes sence but marcus williams filled a need and was cheap. I dont know only to trust they know what they are doing...

Maybe they want a pg with the MLE.

Apparently, not much.

Gotta believe they would have jumped if they liked him as the long-term Nash backup or more.

Did any of you see the draft video with David Griffen talking about how much character and such was part of their decision making? I bet that played a role here...

Stop being so dramatic. They mortgaged the future? In THIS draft? Come on. Granted, the 21 MIGHT have got us someone that would have a future in the NBA, but someone that can be described as being a major part of the future? You've got to be kidding me. The 27, well, that one isn't even worth talking about.

Don't fool yourself: 1.8million dollars is still a lot of money. That 1.8m could spell the difference on any contract that we offer to Tim Thomas. When we're talking MLE level money, 1.8 is a pretty big piece.

Not just this year, but you have to remember this will be the fourth year in a row the Suns will not get a player via the draft. That may not hurt now or even next year, but that's going to come back to bite the team in the butt.

jesus christ Chap - you just blow which ever way Sarver blows, huh? Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't you think it was a waste to TRADE 21 AND 27 TO GET TO 15? You'd think that by that line of reasoning you put a good deal of stock into 21 and 27 - but hey, I guess you're allowed to change your mind for no apparent reason at all.

Agreed. D'Antoni didn't have the final say. It was Sarver. Having said that. I am not sure anybody they got would have the immediate impact that signing Tim Thomas would have.

So I guess, on one hand I love the result if it means we get Tim Thomas. The reason being is the future is now. We have an opportunity now and the Suns need to take that chance.

In terms of the future, it stinks we didn't get any new talent for the future.

You're hilarious. Arguing with me just because you want to. Very funny.

The Suns, who have done this a lot longer than you have, sorry to say, cheesebeef, know just a little bit more than you, don't you think? Actually probably not, huh?

I don't think the 21 and 27 to get the 15 was a good deal. (13--maybe) I wouldn't have minded getting someone with the 21, I said that before, but what is done is done, and I support the Suns in the decision. They didn't like Williams or any of the other PGs. D'Antoni gave his reasons why they didn't like a guy like Rodriguez. The only guy I really would have liked them to take a look at was James White, but that wasn't such a huge deal. He wasn't going to be an impact player for us anyway. And who knew that Carney would fall to 15? I might have had second thoughs about my opinion of 21/27 for the 15 if Carney had been there. But apparently the Suns didn't like him enough to do the trade, OR more likely, the guy NOK wanted was still there and THAT'S why the trade didn't happen.

dude - you are officially becoming the Suns baord version of Tango during the Rod Graves days. Apparently - according to you - even when you want something to happen and it doesn't the Suns can do no wrong. Nice bit of objectivity there Chap.

What are you talking about? When did I say they can do no wrong? I'm trying to understand WHY they decided to trade out of the draft, and their reasons have a certain amount of sense to it.

What's even funnier is that you actually agree that it was GOOD to trade out, yet here you are, arguing with me as if you think the opposite! So which is it, cheese?

I think it's GREAT! But that's only because I really believe the future is RIGHT NOW and after Nash is done and the team BC assembled hits their contract years, this team will be ripped apart and we will never see the Suns be good like this again. Thus, I say sacrifice the future for the present because I don't believe there is a bright future with Sarver at the helm.

The bottom line is I don't agree with you. And I haven't seen anything to prove otherwise. But again, that's just my opinion. I know you don't like it and will probably make fun or attack me because of it, but there it is. I'm sorry you don't like it.

I also think the future is now, that's why I had my doubts that Rodriguez and even Williams would ever be our "point guard of the future". I would have liked us to draft Williams and seen what happens, but D'Antoni must have really disliked him. I mean, he actually said that too! That has nothing to do with Sarver.

“I don’t want to disappoint fans with nobody coming in tonight,” D’Antoni smiled, “but at the same time I don’t think we’ll disappoint them when November comes around. That’s our goal: to win a championship.”

Jordan Farmar was there too, but D'Antoni supposedly didn't like him because he couldn't shoot. This isn't Europe Mike, a lot of Americans don't develop a consistent jumpshot until their upperclass years of college if not in the NBA.
