Wilks hired his buddy but this guy is one of the worst DCs we have ever had and we have enough talent even in the switch to not be this bad in a 4-3. He has sailed through the season without anyone calling him out... he's a complete idiot
Uh, he has been called out all season.

Not sure why the team is lined up in a 4-2-5 when the Rams are showing two tight ends.

Goff might not have to throw the ball

Only 3 or 4 called him out, some still think that changing to 4-3 was not a bad move ...

pathetic DC ...

This whole team was put together like tinkertoys. This coaching staff took these tinkertoys and tried to build it like Lincoln logs.

Bet no one felt last year that they’d miss James Bettcher.
Wrong. Some of us appreciated a DC who had the Cardinals D ranked 5th, 2nd, and 6th in his three years, even the last couple when the offense couldn't get out of its own way. Others pined for Bowles (even though his defenses were ranked 6th and 24th) and thought it was hilarious to refer Bettcher as a fat incompetent idiot. Most of those also though Arians was a loudmouth whose time had passed and they were glad to see him go.

I'm with you Dave. Bettcher had his flaws, the inability to cover TE's for sure, but he did a very good job overall. The Cards were usually very stout against the run. Top backs, much less CJ Anderson, had a tough time getting 100 yards.

Bettcher is the DC for the Giants. They are ranking #23 in total defense. Not much better than us.

Where is this coming from? People watching from 2000 to 2013?

We were one of the best teams to cover TEs when Bettcher was DC.

True, but the Giants showed progress through the season. He did take over a complete pile of dung in NY.

I don’t give a $hit what the rankings say relative to total yards. Points given up by the defense is the only metric that matters and Cards were middle of the pack or worse with Bettcher.

Yeah, Bettcher was probably one of the most underappreciated coaches on this team in some time. Not perfect, but as you referenced, results are measurable

But substitute QBs killed us.

This feels like friendly fire to me. Blaming holcomb for the defense would be like blaming Harold Goodwin for last years offense. They are and were coordinators in name only. The head coach in both situations ran that side of the ball. Not to say he is not at fault at all but this is Wilkes defense and first head job. Even if Holcomb wanted to change things up he probably wouldn't be allowed .
