The defense is giving up more yards per game (401.8) than any team in Cardinal history. Not just Arizona Cardinal history. In the 77 years stats have been kept for this team, no defense has given up 400+ ypg.

Also, the 29 points per game given up by this defense are the most since the 1958 Chicago Cardinals (29.7).

Being on the field so often might skew this year's stats a bit, but I still thought it was pretty shocking. Think about all the horrible defenses we've sat through.

They are pretty bad no doubt. but the completely inept offense is certainly making it worse than it is IMO.

Probably, but they're still giving up more yards per play than any Cardinal defense since 1958, which is the same year they gave up more points. That's on the D.

Hopefully, although unlikely, the Cardinals have learned a VALUABLE lesson this season. A defense with no pass rush, especially off the edges, is not a defense. The d-line is actually somewhat talented. The secondary is also slightly above average but the outside linebackers are woefully poor. In a 3/4 defense, that is a (no pun intended) cardinal sin. In fact, in the 3/4 the outside linebackers need to be the most versatile and talented players on that side of the ball. The Cardinals crappy linebackers are the main reason the defense sucks.

The fact that they are on the field so long thanks to the worst offense in the NFL certainly hinders them as well. Also Bill _avis (notice I left the "D" out of his name) is a terrible defensive coordinator.

But just ask them, We have the best safety tandem in the NFL :biglaugh:. I actually think,as stupid as the stats make it sound, that our CB's have played pretty good but have had absolutety zero help from the safeties since about week 3. It seems like all the big plays are right down the middle.

Uh yeah, our corners have been pretty good by not letting MIKE WILLIAMS catch 20 a game against them.

Come on, Cbus.

I have to Williams alot of credit on a bunch of those catches. The DB was draped all over and he came up with the ball, especially in the game at Seattle.

I've been a fan since 1960 and have not seen anything like this drefense. I have been saying this all season and haveen getting hammered by several posters, especially Rugby Muffin. I believe after yesterday he can now see the ineptness of the schemes and the age and slowness of the linebacking group; Haggans, Porter, and Hayes.

Our starting Linebackers are 128 years old. 129 in 10 days.

It's not just the defense-----with this coaching staff's propensity to play personnel out of position, or at least not play them to their strengths, a better question might be ----- how bad is this staff?
