After the dust clears this off-season.

Portland will be much, much better with the development of Sergio, Alderidge, and Oden.

Seattle could be much much better.

LAL could be much much better adding KG

Windows can close fast in the NBA

as long as LA has kobe and mitch there they arent closing our window on us. and portland is years away from being a team to strike fear into the playoff hearts of others.

Portland won 32 games last year. Even a marginal turnaround puts them in playoff contention. Sign one good free agent next summer and their starting lineup looks pretty solid to me.

I'd say the current window is based on Nash's health which shortens the window considerbly. It is clear they will trade the Atlanta pick to move up in this draft simply because they do not want to wait.

Assuming they can move up in the draft, the Suns would pass on somebody like Yi who would not contribute right away. Likewise, a trade of Marion for cap space next year would not fly.

As long as we keep Barbosa, Stoudemire, and Diaw, we have a legitimate shot for the next 8 or so years.

I would agree that these 3 if healthy guarantee playoffs for the next 8 years but not championships unless they are surrounded by the right pieces.
