Have they ever moved down 22 spots in the first round? Went from top 10 to low 20's? If they have then sure its a Pats model. But from my recollection they never have so how exactly is it a Pats Model?

The Pats model is to drop back a few spots and collect picks. The Pats model is to drop from the end of the 1st round into the 2nd round. Would the Pats model really have dropped from #5 to #27, since people are making 100% guarantee's here then I will to, I 100% guarantee the Pats would not have made that trade. See I can make 100% guarantee's just as easily.

I didn't guarantee anything.

The Pats never draft that high because they don't suck so we have no idea if they would or wouldn't but I would have.

If we get Leenart back, and only run the ball Bean style, Smel will love football again.

Yes actually if you wanna look at Profootballcentral.com I was extremely appy from after 2007 to the SB in 2008, not before they did it but I wrote read after read saying they were gonna do it before it happened!

My friend I stayed optimistic throughout every miserable year in Arizona as i did 10 push ups per point difference in every Dallas loss,

I did 10 pushups per point difference for the 2009 Saints playoff loss also and posted a pic for the winning Saints fan, told them the Saints were the king and master of my universe, and had to root for them until they lost! They didn't lose.

Since that game (with 6 minutes left in the 3rd of a divisional playoff game) My Cardinals have fallen, and they can't get up, look at the Cardinals Free agent list since that time forward.

read the transition log and you'll see, DD, AW -Fitz are the only drafted Cardinals re-signed since Whiz took over! 5 years ago!

Patrick Peterson draft was a great day in Arizona, I just don't know why to expect Whiz to get the best out of him, Please give me a reason?

I'm hoping Horton can get this still talented defense going, but if Whiz throws for about 600 passes for the 5th year in a row, the defense will be bad again.

Feed the Bean, put THT as the great role player He was behind Edge, Act like a professional football coach and hire a staff that wouldn't stink up other teams.

If your happy with the worse personnel moves in the history of earth, than I'll have to accept you as our current fan culture, Even when we get a player like Beanie, DRC, Matt, Levi, Dwill We destroy their value and get the worse out of them.

Mike Adams has always been a scrub, worse CB in the NFL by a lot! THT is by the numbers the worse starting RB in the NFL for the 4th straight year.

Faneca , Porter, Mcfad, Ross on and on ex steeler busts! Let see if Horton keeps them!

I am a Cardinal fan top to bottom, And I DON"T LIKE WHAT I'M WATCHING!
wake up and smell the bird poop.

I'll praise again when I see a reason to, on the field! PP is a great pick,

Now we only need 4 OLB's and QB, you now before the rest of our SB squad says don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you!

They don't want to play for this staff , just look at em

Will you ever be happy with anything this team does? My God, this is getting annoying.[/quote]

Another example, with the 27th pick we could have gotten from Atlanta, we could have done this deal and acquired another 1st round pick in next years draft, giving us a total of 3 first round picks as well as another 2nd rounder this year. This is how NE has been able to maintain consistency. Does anyone really think we're winning the Superbowl this year? We could have used this to put ourselves in Prime position to do whatever we wanted next year.

The Deal: New England traded the No. 28 overall pick to New Orleans for a second-round pick (No 56) and a 2012 first-rounder.
The Skinny: Same as it ever was. The Patriots traded out of the first round again, grabbing a No. 1 pick in next year's draft. Interesting that the Pats gave up Mark Ingram, who many beat writers thought would be the choice. With Pierre Thomas hurt and the signability of Reggie Bush an issue, Ingram looks like the long-term solution in the Big Easy. "It was a long wait, but I'm so happy to be part of a great organization," Ingram said.

Because the best player in the draft was still on the board.

A few days out my projection: Peterson My want: Gabbert

I think Peterson will be an outstanding player. Hope he is the next Deion Sanders. The gurus at the drafts mentioned several times that the Peterson pick was in line with the Whiz philosophy of drafting the best player available. Many still say he was the best player in the entire draft. I am glad we did not trade down. I doubt few can criticize the Cards on this pick although Gabbert went just a couple of slots from him and Locker and Ponder were right in the pack. Ponder sort of caught me by surprise. So did Joe Flacco when he was drafted. From what happened I now think Whiz does have a lot of influence in the draft selection. Maybe more than Graves? Our new defensive coach should be all smiles. Will we or should we use our new 4.3 guy for returns and punt returns? Large chance of injuries doing this.

I remain concerned about a QB. Hope there is one Whiz thinks is worth a second pick but that is doubtful. We do not even know if we can or will sign a QB in FA. We all seem to take it for granted but there are teams who all have the same idea. Someone on the board said there would never be 3-4 QB taken in first round. I think there were that many taken in first 10 and others will rapidly disappear in round 2.

Again you are acting like whoever we drafted would be better than Peterson. This is a team that needs playmakers, we can't trade away the chance at taking to quote PFW "one of the most physically gifted CB playmakers since Charles Woodson" or that Lindy's calls "a freakish athlete proven as a shutdown corner and dynamic returner against SEC competition".

I think Peterson is as much a sure thing as anyone in the draft. Cannot criticize that. I wanted a QB but understand there is a big gamble with any of them. With Peterson I say he will be a starting DB for the next 10 years baring any injuries. He is ours and it is time to move on to round 2. We still can come out of this draft with a grade of "A" at this point as we have possible the best player in the draft. We also can come out of the draft with an overall grade of "A" and still have no QBOTF.

I can 100% guarantee that having all those picks would allow us the flexibilty to A) Get Kevin Kolb(not saying I'm in that camp), B) Get Carson Palmer(if available for trade), C) get some other PROVEN veteran that could help this team, D) Trade SOME(NOT ALL) of the picks to draft a player we want this year or next, E) Trade back for more picks this year or next to continue stockpiling picks while still picking in the same round to allow even MORE flexibility in trading for proven players F) etc....

I can 100% guarantee that our decision to not do that trade gives us two options. A) We have a Probowl Corner (and again, only 2 in the league I wouldn't do this deal for, odds are he's not going to be as good as them) B) He's just above average and 5 years from now we're kicking ourselves for not seizing an opportunity to build an entire team instead of taking one player.

This is getting misconstrued that I don't like him. I just think that deal was WAAAAY too good to pass up. And a CB isn't going to solve all the issues that this deal had the potential to address.

I still think we would be foolish to give up picks this year or next for Kevin Kolb. I said before I would give up a #5 pick but in no way pay him the big $$$$ his agent says he wants when he yet to prove much of anything and is basically a rookie.

Can someone please just acknowledge that those picks could have ALSO been used to trade for a proven veteran player? So far every reply has been about only being able to use them for another draft pick. For example, we traded a pick for Kerry Rhodes. I'd say that was a pretty damn good trade. 4th rounder I believe? Yeah, we'd have two of those this year and two next.
Sure. I'll acknowledge that - along with an earlier comment to me from someone on this board that "if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle."

The problem isn't with your logic; it's with the betting a tangible against an unknown. Sometimes a trade works, and sometimes it doesn't. (I know you like to throw the word "guarantee" a lot, but the success of any trade is never guaranteed. Even if you wind up with the second coming of Lawrence Taylor doesn't guarantee he won't tear up a knee and prematurely end a career).

You play the odds and you takes your chances.

Unfortunately, there's another dynamic that comes into play - Job Survival. Any coach or GM on the hot-seat willing to sacrifice something concrete in the "here & now" so that the dude who succeeds him will benefit in the future is committing "career hari kari."

Bottom line - I grit my teeth when I think about all those picks we didn't get, but Peterson is considered "that good" and "that clean" to be worth keeping the pick. I can't fault RG or Wiz for staying put.

Dude, we could have had 2 #1 picks next year, 2 2nds and 2 4ths this year, and 2 4th's next year. All that equals being able to trade up this year to get a player you want and still keep some of those picks, OR, using those picks next year to trade up for Andrew Luck. I'd take that any day over Peterson. Don't get me wrong, I like Peterson, but name me a corner other than Revis and Nhamdi O in the last 10 years that you wouldn't trade for all those picks. That's one of the reasons the Patriots are always good. They stockpile picks and they can pretty much have their way with the draft. We just had our opportunity to do that, and we blew it.

Having no QB this year we very well may be in the hunt for Luck next year. No matter who we draft until this team finds a QB we will never be in a Superbowl and might very well finish the season near or in the bottom. I like Peterson but he is not going to put very many points on the board or throw a pass to Fitz. When do we address the QB need? Does anyone really think we can do well with Skelton and Hall as our QBs? We should cut Hall ASAP. That would leave us needing two more QBs. Good teams usually have a good backup QB. The old man QB at Dallas last year came in and did a respectable job. He was sure a lot better than any QB on our team and he was an old backup. When Big Ben went down his backup came in and held down the fort. Look at us--Anderson could not hit the side of a barn. We bring in Hall who looked like a high school QB and finally we bring in Skelton who turned out to be the best of the three. Not that he was that good but compared to Anderson and Hall he was all world. How could Whiz have had Hall as the backup to Anderson and not Skelton? How could we even start the season with three QBs like we had. We were doomed from day one.

Peterson was hands down the best player in the draft, IMO. Not to mention the excitement he will bring to the locker room and fan base. Admit it, how many are already visualizing themselves or their kid wearing a Peterson jersey?

Kudos to wiz, graves, and whoever else hand a hand in this wise decision

I'm happier with PP than I would have been with all those picks. PP is going to be the Larry Fitzgerald of the defense.

Yesterday I said there would be a lot of complaints about who we drafted or did not draft. What I did not see comming was all this talk about trades and not doing them. Yesterday is gone. Lets move on. We got an A player. What more do you want. He is a bird in the hand and not a bunch of picks in the bush. This past few days I was finally convinced that Peterson was the best player in the draft and perhaps the least risk of any player in the draft. Many of the gurus thought the same. I wanted a QB but we did well. We just need to keep it up and come out of this draft with an overall grade of "A".

Where we will get a QB only the man upstairs knows. It is sort of like we can end up with this super sports car but do not have a driver.

Mitch do you still like that Alabama QB? Where do you think he will go in the draft? Perhaps #5? Seems to be a big run on QB's. I am thinking the Patriots are going to take Mallet. Sounds crazy but let us see. If not I would take him with our #2 but I doubt Whiz will if he is taking the best player available.

Hey there is plenty to criticize in the Cardinals front office but when do something right like what they did last night, they ought to get accolades, The blue chippers ran out at #5 last night. I would not trade PP for Buster Davis, Levi Brown, Antrel Rolle, and Andre Roberts. I would not trade him for Kevin Kolb or Kyle Orton and a couple draft picks.

I'm glad the Cardinals stayed put and dramatically upgraded their secondary last night. Some of the pundits are talking about how important it is to have an area of strength on your football team. The Cardinals had that with their receiving corps of Fitz, Q, and Steve Breaston and rode it into the superbowl. The pundits were referencing Detriot and their front four with Suh, Fairley, and Vanden Bosch, but the concept could also apply to the Cardinals and their upgraded secondary. It should develop into a solid unit with the upgraded coaching now in place. It should be a core strength of the defense over the next few years.

Kudos to Rod Graves and Steve Keim for staying put and making the 2011 Arizona Cardinals a better team in the secondary and on special teams. With PP's outstanding hands and athleticism, I wouldn't even be suprised to see Whis draw up a couple packages for him on offense.

Wow, I take back everything I said in this post. After seeing what happened today, the LAST thing we need is MORE picks to screw up. We should trade our entire draft to move back to the last pick in the draft. Holy crap this is attrocious.

I was gonna say maybe you are right and we should have made the trade so that our new coach and GM have a full cupboard for the draft next year as they try to replace Fitz and everyone else who will be looking to get out of dodge ASAP.
