Browns just got one of the best deals ever. If they offered that to RG and he said no, he should be fired immediately.

Because the best player in the draft was still on the board.

A pile of picks isn't worth as much as an elite player. Knee jerk reaction much?

Screw it...I'm glad we didn't make that trade.

We would have sacrificed probably the best, or one of the 3 best, players in the draft to get a much lesser talented player, a 2nd rounder (basically, as Atlanta will do well next year), and a 2nd and a 4th next year. I would have loved all those extra picks, but you don't give up players like PP to trade back to 27.

Dude, we could have had 2 #1 picks next year, 2 2nds and 2 4ths this year, and 2 4th's next year. All that equals being able to trade up this year to get a player you want and still keep some of those picks, OR, using those picks next year to trade up for Andrew Luck. I'd take that any day over Peterson. Don't get me wrong, I like Peterson, but name me a corner other than Revis and Nhamdi O in the last 10 years that you wouldn't trade for all those picks. That's one of the reasons the Patriots are always good. They stockpile picks and they can pretty much have their way with the draft. We just had our opportunity to do that, and we blew it.

Very happy with the pick and glad we did not trade. This is not a deep draft for an elite player.

I'm happier with PP than I would have been with all those picks. PP is going to be the Larry Fitzgerald of the defense.

That is not worth two late 1s, one late 2, and couple 4s....

Yup, best draft pick since LFitz. I have a feeling this is going to be Whisenhunts breakout draft.

Here's what gets me. If we had a Franchise Player and a team gave up two # 1 picks for him, a lot of us would be ecstatic to get those picks. And this for a proven elite athlete that has done it in the NFL. Yet, when a team offers a 2nd and 4th this year, and a 1st and 4th next year, people say no for an unproven player that may or may not turn out to be above average. Where is the logic in that?

I would have traded in a heart beat for what Cleveland got, but PP is a bad ass with a low wonderlic.

could have been an NFC thingy?

Forget trading out of elite prospect range...I don't care what they offered.

Atlanta won 13 games without that other WR, if we make that deal and they take Green that first rounder isn't going to be very high. It's almost a 2nd rounder.

So what? It's still a pick they could use to trade up for an elite prospect next year. Or a pick they could trade for a veteran player. With all those picks, the opportunity is much greater to get better with more quality players, OR, use those picks to trade up for an elite player in the draft next year.

And the way 1st place teams have gone to the cellar and last place teams have gone to 1st year to year, there's no guarantee Atlanta is going to be as good this year anyway.

So you give up on an elite player THIS year for the possibility of giving up those picks for an elite player NEXT year? Huh?

Most of the time I'd say take the picks, however for this team, which I consider to be "special" at drafting, we did well not to get the extra picks.

I'm not saying we'd have to give up all those picks, and I'm not saying we'd give them up for a draft pick. I'm saying it would have provided us a lot of opportunities to do a ton of things.

Example - for those that want us to trade for Kevin Kolb, this would have given us the ammo to do so without killing our draft this year and next.

Another example - if someone wanted to trade up for one of the 2nd rounders this year, we could have potentially gotten next years first rounder for our 2nd rounder this year and still had Atlanta's 2nd rounder.

I'll keep pointing to the Patriots. The more picks you have, the more flexibility you have in trading for a vet or trading for a draft pick.

And still nobody has answered my earlier question. Aside from two elite corners in Revis and Nhamdi, what current active cornerback would you
not trade for all those picks? If you can't come up with one, and you can't 100% guarantee me that Peterson is going to be as good as those two, then it makes no sense not to do that deal(If it was offered to us).

I guess Syracuse is also glad that we passed on Suggs for those extra picks that worked so well?

And you can 100% guarantee that whoever we picked late in round 1 or round 2 would be better than Peterson in the long run? The guy is thought by a lot of scouts as being the #1 prospect in the draft and numerous scouts say he is one of the 3 safest picks, you don't give up on a potential Charles Woodson for a handful of unknowns.

Yeah, that's a fair statement...

If RG was a good GM, we could have used those picks to trade for a good veteran or at the very LEAST, selected players that weren't rated as 2nd rounders or worse... If we had a different GM that did that trade, we'd probably be happy with how that turned out.

And can you name a current cornerback that you wouldn't trade for all those picks other than NO or DR? Still haven't gotten anyone to answer that so apparently everyone is guaranteeing that Peterson will be as good as those two.

Atlanta was dead set on Julio Jones, the reason they had to give up another 1st rounder was because they have a pick in the late 20's. Dallas was the team most likely to trade up for PP and we would not have gotten a future 1st round pick from them, ESPN has a chart that values draft picks with a point system when trading in the draft and that is why Atlanta gave up so much. Anyone else drafting in the first 3rd of the draft wouldn't give up another first.

Calm the ____ down and enjoy that we took the BPA.
