Reading those excerpts is making me sick. Not just the Phoenix ones, the ones in the link.

F the NBA!

Just about as lame as it was to say that you still believe Donaghy screwed the Suns in the series even though it's been stated that he stopped jacking games before the series? You gotta take it for what it says. There's many reports everywhere saying how he stopped fixing games before the series, so just still believing that he still fixed the series or still skeptical about the Donaghy's officiating during the series doesn't make much sense whatsoever either.

yeah and it's the same report, basically. He could've easily fixed that game in the series, IT WAS THE MOST OBVIOUS. Either way it was both the Suns and the leagues fault in that series.

Nice refutation of the default argument used by the anti-conspiracy people. Despite their status as a small-market team, the Spurs did receive preferential treatment.

Too bad the NBA doesn't do FOIA requests. Now, if there was a federal investigation that collected the info....

David Stern, and the NBA office, and refs should all be in jail.

Reading stuff like this just makes it clear to me why Ive lost my love for Pro Basketball.

Once Nash and Hill retire I cant see myself really caring all that much anymore.

Anyone read this yet?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4603209

Pat Berdan, a senior consultant at Executive Prison Consultants and Donaghy's liaison to the publisher, said that the decision not to publish the book came two weeks ago. He said it was the result of a threat of legal action by the NBA.

"Somehow, the NBA got wind of the project and let Random House know in a threatening-type correspondence that they would object to the publication of such a book and they threatened that they would sue if they did go ahead and do that," said Berdan, who didn't see any letters from the NBA. "Random House considered that and ... just pulled the plug on it."

And of course, the NBA's response. :thumbdown

"The NBA never threatened a lawsuit or anything else," NBA vice president of basketball communications Tim Frank wrote in an e-mail to ESPN.com.

I feel more sorry for those fans that were in denial about these kind of things going on.

But to place bets just for their own (refs) amusement? That's just sick. :pullhair:

Well you assume it is different in football or other pro sports... but it isn't.

I know, I know. But baseball has already been exposed. With the NFL I actually really like the stance Goodell has taken with the league, he really seems like he has some integrity.

But with the NBA, especially being a suns fan you just almost get this evil feeling about david stern. He can be arrogant, snide almost talking like hes untouchable at times (which I guess he is).

I would love to actually hear some thoughts from people that come in contact with him on a daily basis. He just seems (total assumption on my part) like the type of guy not alot of people would have good things to say about but hes so powerful no one would talk bad about him.

Actually, I think it is quite different with football. With all the camera angles and evaluation, it seems that NFL officials do a remarkable job of calling games correctly. Instant replay provides a check too. Players are seldom tossed in the NFL and there is much less interaction between officials and players than in the NBA. If an official wants to change to flow of an NFL game, the primary way would have to be the holding call, which could probably be made on every play.

I cannot figure out why baseball does electronically monitor the strike zone. It would be an easy thing to do. I guess it takes alot of the drama out of it. Leave the ump behind the plate for calls at home etc, but not for balls and strikes.

Basketball is so different. There is so much going on and the rules leave so much open to interpretation. Its hard enough to be objective even in the best situation, but if the stuff in this book is true, its just pointless to consider it a fair competition.

Spurs were better than the Suns in 07 but only in the same that a WWE wrestler is better than another WWE wrestler because he beat him a match.

I mean, how much of a liar do you have to be to think this was a fair series?

Damn Ninja why you have to post that and refresh everyone's memory of how crooked those refs were! Suns would have won a championship in the Dantoni years without the lopsided crap ass playoff RULES and REFS!!

Geez, I remember that game. I just forgot that all those calls occurred in that very same game!

In a van...down by the river.
IMO David Stern and his NBA are corrupt. I say this in full confidence.....(our misadventures with the SPURS don't even need to be brought into this either.....)there is no way that i can believe that there was only 1 corrupt official in all this. That doesn't fly with me......it never did. It certainly makes it an easy clean-up though.

2008 investigation? LMFAO
Stern could set Presidents Obama's White House lawn on fire in front of the entire free press and be absolved.

Excerpts from Donaghy's book are out. Here are some relevant to the Suns.

More at http://deadspin.com/5392067/excerpts-from-the-book-the-nba-doesnt-want-you-to-read

I just read the whole thing and it makes my blood boil. It just proves refs had it out for the Suns in the 07 series. I don't know how championship teams like the Lakers and Spurs feel about it, given that some the championships they won were mainly handed to them based on ratings/super-star status. **** the NBA.

I hope the book is published. It will force the NBA to do some cleanup even if they do not admit any wrongdoing by anyone. Its already started. The league office just handed down a new directive that refs cannot tip ball boys any more.

They have had a good ol boys club for a long time. Now that they are "outed" refs will realize that one of their own someday might spill the beans. There will be some shape up.

It also might force Sarver into a lux box somewhere. That would be a relief.

It will be fodder for posters for years to come.
