Bell was expendable because we acquired Barnes! And this season, I was enjoying watching Barnes much more than Raja. He is the hard-nosed, scrappy player we need on this team. It used to be Raja, but we don't need two of those players in our starting lineup! One scrappy guy, J-Rich, two MVPs, and an All-Star... not too shabs!

I think he might be worth more than that. I wouldn't be opposed spending 7/year on him. Of course, it is not my money, so it's easy for me to say that, but still. I think he, along with Stoudemire and JRich is the future of this team.
I look at him and I see an improved version of Marion- Marion with big heart and some gigantic balls. Suns have got to keep him. They can not allow Barnes to be Tim Thomas part 2.

HUH??

Barnes as amproved version of Marion??????

Get outta here.

Barnes is on the same boat as Posey, but I would take Posey as he is a grittier defender and bigger too.

Marion > Posey > Barnes

Marion gives you Tim Duncan numbers, 20/10.
Marion's impact is felt on the perimeter... he gives his team the rebounding a big all star brings with above average perimeter defense.

Marion is a 12~14 Million a year player....

and Barnes is worth less than half of that.. if not half...

so NO.... Barnes is not an "improved" version of Marion.

Sorry. Marion is not 20/10, not any more. I know there r still Marion lovers here, but u got to face the truth. Marion is over 30, declining rapidly. He does 12.5 + 8.9 in a very high 37 minutes per game this season. Check stats, Barnes' contribution is very close to that.

Meanwhile Marion salary is 17 million US dollars, not 13/14, the Suns gave him that contract, remember? Miami front office must be very grateful that contract ends this year. LOL. Barnes only gets 1.2M for what he does, and 500k of them paid by union. Do u math!

I have been following the Heat during Shaq's era. I know Posey very well. Posey and Barnes is not same type of player, it's hard to compare them.

Posey is no doubt a better defender, he is very experienced and very clever, takes a lot of charges, flops sometimes. At 6-8 and with very long arms, he was assigned to defend 4 often, and he does it pretty well. But he is not particularly quick, not very good against fast guards.

Barnes is not as skilled or experienced. He makes things up by hardworking and play physical. He is also quicker, sometimes can even defend 1.

Posey's main weakness is his offense. His dribbling and handling is very limited, he doesn't know how to pass the ball, and he has no mid-range game. Hit a few dagger 3 is all what he did in Miami and Boston. Because of that, Posey can only be used strictly as reserve. If u put him in starting 5, opponent will always use his defender to double some1 else, which happened very often in Miami, so in 2006 playoff, Riley started Walker in most of the games.

I think Barnes fit us exactly well. MLE is the right price on him.

Marion gives you Tim Duncan numbers, 20/10 when playing under D'Antoni with no center.

FTFY
I'd take(and pay) a Barnes over Marion(today)with no hesitation.

We really need to resign Barnes. I also like Barnes coming off the bench. Only because Hill seems to be more effective that way. I would say Barnes is going to get this minutes no matter what so it's no big deal.

If this team can somehow manage to get a legit backup PG...my hopes are restored.

I'm not saying that Barnes is better than Marion, but have you watched Marion much this year? To say he puts up "near Duncan numbers" is extremely inaccurate. Marion is at 12/8 right now. Barnes is at 12/6. They are basically the same player this season, production wise.

I would almost go as far as saying that I'd prefer Barnes over Marion on this team. Barnes knows what he is. A top-tier role player. (Who is nails from beyond the 3pt line.) Marion still thinks he's worth 20 million a year.
