They go into a winning streak and move into first place.

They go into a losing streak and move into fourth place.

They go into a winning streak and move into first place.

Building continuity is part of a Manager's responsibility.

He's laying a shaky foundation for a young batting order.

I gnash my teeth together when I read this Bob Melvin quotes.

Bob Melvin said:
"It's going to come," he said. "I'm certainly not going to panic. These are our guys. We feel like we have a chance to get better as the season goes along, and I still believe they're all going to hit."

Bob Melvin said:
"Anything can change, but if you look at Triple-A and what we have there right now, these are our guys. We made a lot of difficult moves last year to get these guys here and get them experience . . . but these guys are all going to hit. I really believe that."

It just seems he has this "await and see" approach. With a younger team (especially) he must be more proactive. He has to start conducting extra batting practice and again finally adjust the line-up according to the hitters strengths.

Then, he compounds matters worse by attesting how there isn't any talent at the AAA level ready now to compete with the players on the current ML roster. Well, then....unfortunately some complacency will set in since there's no one good enough to take their place.

Well, thankfully there are plenty of candidates vying for Melvin's job which makes things somewhat more assuring.

Yes, but how much permanent damage will be done to the potential of a group of young players while the good Managerial candidates are vying?

I've posted that quite a few times.... perhaps if/when a new manager is hired, they might be able to desensitize/reverse them from all the damage done.

Some of you might have read the Republic or azcentral.com and applauded his one-on-one team meeting w/Callaspo or perhaps the pre-game meeting he conducted with the team prior to Sunday's game. However, it cannot be overlooked that it was get-away day and the Mets rested 3 of their contributers (only Beltran PH in the 9th). He like the Master of the Obvious most of the time and seems very soft. You cannot coddle these youngsters with complete kid gloves, some times an iron-fist has to be employed to jolt the players in the right direction

I still contend Kirk Gibson would be a breath of fresh air. I always think back to this article I posted a couple weeks ago...especially this sequence of events:

Outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, a top Arizona prospect, recently learned about Gibson's powers of observation after hitting a routine grounder and running like a fourth Molina brother. Gonzalez later received a visit from Gibson, who calmly inquired if his leg were sore (the answer was no), then posed a hypothetical question.
"If that ball takes a bad hop and bounces three feet to the right of the guy, are you out or safe?" Gibson asked. "Because I think you're still out."
In his next plate appearance, Gonzalez ran as if jet-propelled.

First, he gave CarGo the benefit of the doubt. He didn't immediately accuse him of "dogging-it", he asked if there was something wrong preventing him from going full-speed. Once that was established, Gibson immediately presents different scenarios. In a way, he's effectively micro-managing. What if this happens.. how would the outcome be? Then he conveyed his point and promptly got his point across to CarGO.

That can remedy the damage that Melvin has inflicted on the prospects. Again, a pure natural leader who is keen on the fundamentals and knows when to pick his spots effectively.

Mark Grace just said on the broadcast "its not going to be long until Chip Hale is managing in the majors somewhere"

I started yelling at the TV "how about in Arizona?"

Melvin is the dumbest manager. He takes out Randy and brings in Medders, a righty who has given up 5 home runs in 15 innings. That move allows Ryan Howard to pinch hit and Medders gives up a grand slam. If this does not show management how dumb Melvin is, nothing will.

Its blatantly obvious that Johnson had nothing left in the seventh. He faced three batters without retiring anybody, his stamina is still a fraction of what is usually is and he has been plagued by the long ball so far this season as well and you think he should have stayed in? If Melvin did that he would have blasted for that too...

I agree with your point...

However as soon as I saw Ryan Howard lift his ass off the bench I would have brought in Slaten just to pitch to him. It's sad that this team only has 1 left handed reliever.

I knew Randy was gassed but hehad Slaten warming up and ready. Why bring in Medders and not Slaten to keep Howard out of the lineup?

Exactly. Slaten was already warmed up. You have ONE left handed specialist on the roster and you don't bring him in to face one of the most dangerous hitters (who is also a lefty coincidentally)?

Dumb.

Dumb.

Dumb.
