I Have a HUGE HUGE HUGE Dilemma on my hands

On Christmas My wife gave me and the two kids a Home made gift card saying that she was taking us to the Excalibur Hotel and Casino for a night(getting a room) and treating us to the Tournament of Kings Dinner show that is there.

Sounded great at the time. Long before I ever though we might be in freaking NFC Championship game. She has already booked the room( not refundable) and booked the tickets(not refundable) to the tune of approx 400.00

I had already purchased my playoff tickets including NFC championship game long before she decided to do this just in case this game happened. Well the game is also on the 18th and there is no way in hell I can be in 2 places at once. Cost of my seats for this game = 480.00

What would you do if you were me? Risk big fight and hurting families feelings and go to game? Or would you watch game on TV and go to show? (have to remember my wife's mindset she doesn't like football nor does she understand how important it is to me. She thinks its kind of silly)

I really want to go to this game. This is a once and a lifetime experience!

Those of you that are looking for tickets try and think objectively if you give an opinion please

2. Get wife to invite a few girlfriends for a night out in Vegas - they can use the room and go to that dinner (dont know what that is.. if its too manly then they can just forego the dinner)
3. Buy your wife a day at the spa that day or day after

Tough call dude. Contact Excalibur and Tournament of Kings to see if they will let you move the date. With the economy I would think they would want to keep customers happy. Then think of something special to do with the wife and kids as a thank you for their understanding and compassion.

Hopefully this shows your wife it's not all about you and your "silly" football and that you want everyone to be happy.

Go to the game. You know what you need to do. You can go to that show 364 other days in 2009. Sell the room/ tickets on craigslist or something, and promise you will go some other time. Just don't book it for Feb. 1. There will never be this actual game ever again. Excalibur isn't going anywhere. Explain to the wife. She may actually understand.

My 2 cents. As much as i wish I could be at the game as well some things arent meant to be. The upside is this is the first of what will be many of Cardinals playoff games in the years to come.
The reality is that if you diss the better half you WILL regret it for a looonnng time and everytime you mention the Cardinals or a playoff game she WILL be reminded of this. So take your lumps, enjoy the gift, and keep a big screen over her shoulder wherever you go in Sin City.

Dude, aren't you a cop? Have somebody follow the hotel manager around until he runs a red light, or goes to a bar and has one too many. Pull them over and say we'll let it go if you move my reservation to another night.

Or, have them say they made a mistake and overbooked and your room is being used but you can get a refund.

This is the right call. Call the hotel and inform them that you had to change your shift at work at the last minute and I have to imagine that they would let you change the date. Make sure to sound sincere and sad.

You gotta go to the game. This isn't Buffalo in September, it's the freaking NFC Championship game!!! When in the history of the NFL has this game ever been played in Arizona? When was the last time the Cardinals even played in the NFC title game? NEVER!!

This is history my friend. Epic. Monumental. Groundbreaking. 50 years from now when you're close to your deathbed and looking back at your life, you're gonna want to say you were there and saw the game that put the Cards in the Superbowl for the very first time.

Or do you want to tell your grandchildren that you missed it to have a nice night out and dinner with your family?

Somewhere there is a senior citizen Cards fan who skipped the 1947 NFL Championship game because of a conflict. He probably said, "I'll go to the next one". Do you think he went to the next one? Or even lived to see the next one? Do you want to take that same chance?

If your wife really loves you, she will understand how important this game is to you, regardless of how "silly" she personally thinks it is. Plus, you'll make it up to her by rescheduling the dinner experience in full, no matter the cost. This is not about money, it's about pride and history. It's about answering the call of duty. The Cardinals need you there at this game. You have a duty to execute your responsibility as a loyal fan and see that they get to Tampa.
