Remember good old friend Jahidi White?

if you do, do you also remember the Suns received a $5.8M trade exception when they waived him good-bye?

In today's San Jose Mercury News (also quoted on HoopsHype), the writer suggests the Warriors like Zarko and may want him.

Not saying its going to happen, but is the following so far-fetched considering that the current offer for damp is thomas/harrington?

Suns trade:
Zarko, Vujanic, Bulls Pick ($1.3M)

Warriors trade:
re-signed Dampier (in the $7M range)

The Suns trade exception would cover the rest. What do you all think? FYI, if my fantasy scenario were to happen, this would be the Suns lineup next year:

nash 30/barbosa 16/eisley 2
johnson 34/richardson 10/jacobson 4
marion 34/richardson 14
amare 38/lampe 12/vroman 4
dampier 30/voskuhl 12

I'm almost certain that teams under the salary cap do not get a trade exception.

yes, please explain this "trade exception" when you are under the cap.

It is my understanding that all exceptions that a team receives immediatelly count against the salary cap in order to assess how much room a team has left. If a team that's under the salary cap would be over the cap when all the exceptions are added up, then that team may use those exceptions (or reject one or all of them and use the room they originally had). However, if a team is so far under the cap that even after you add all the exceptions they are still under the cap, then that team does not get these exceptions.

the problem is when we traded white we moved under the cap, so all trade exceptions are lost. and also we dont get the MLE because again we are or were under the cap. about the only think we can do is sign for vet mins and trades.

:)

I have been humbled...

Well, I guess this can only happen if Eisley were part of the deal, and while I freely admit Garry St. Jean is a complete moron, even HE is not so stupid.

Hate to keep raining on your parade, but Gary Saint Jean is no longer in charge of basketball operations in GS.

The new guy would be Chris Mullin

I also expect Q to get more than 24 minutes.

I believe we were already under the cap when we traded Jahidi. We were under by something like 7-8 mil. Don't know if that makes a difference in this discussion, but we were under the cap.

Technically not actually. All of our contracts didn't expire until June 30th, and White was drafted like June 22nd.

Doens't matter either way though

The Suns were just over $33 million and the cap is $43.8. From a cap standpoint, the Suns could have done the Nash deal without the Jahidi White money. Q's money is almost identical to the White salary.

And yes, I believe Q is going to be much more valuable than White and the Cleveland pick.

Looks pretty good when you put it this way.
