I'd still take Larry over Ben

I'm sure someone will again post that we should have drafted Ben, but before someone does, please recall this game and how much time Ben had to throw. That wouldn't have happened here. Ben's good, and he might end up being great, but he has a great veteran team that has helped him achieve what he has, and also has a great running game.

Big Ben played terrible. i would still take Fitzgerald over him anyday. His already had a solid team before they even drafted him. If we were to draft him, you know what would of happened (can you say bust)

Not knocking Ben, but I still think that overtime he will not prove to be the best QB taken in that draft.

Has he ever had to carry a team on his shoulders to a victory? I don't know.

Those INTs were Jakelike.

I want to see how good of a QB he is when his team is down 21-0...Then let's see what he does

Nice argument. Now allow me to kick you in the nuts :D

He kicks ass when down. 123.7 QB rating when down 9-16 points, 93.9 QB rating when down by 1-8 points. 60 of 81 when behind in 2005, that's 74.1 completion %.

Don't just take my word for it:

Ben is a great QB and it's a shame we didn't draft him. He will be a HOF QB.

All he did was lead his team to the super bowl champions that they are. I would be happy with any QB who could just do that.

Big Ben has been amazing.

I don't think Pittsburgh would have been as successful the last two years without him...he fits the system, the town, the blue collar theme.

I don't think Big Ben would have been successful at all the last two years in AZ...No running game and little protection.

Go figure.

No way I take Larry over Ben for our team. We have an abundance of receivers but no one approaching the status of a Big Ben and no one even on the horrizon of a Big Ben. There are good if not great receivers coming out of the college ranks every year. No so with QB's. Larry is an all pro but that is not the point. The point is we have needed a good QB for decades.

He just won the superbowl and was in the playoffs last year. Not bad for a two year QB who is only about 23. He does not need to prove anything to me. What did we do the last two years?

Ben sucked bad in this game. Period.

Easily the worst game of his career. You could see he never got comfortable, he was constantly putting his hands to his helmet as if he was having trouble understanding the playcalls or something. And when your coach tells the whole world live at the half "honestly we just need Ben to settle down", that sort of makes it obvious you're really nervous.

Of course he is the youngest winning QB in Super Bowl history so maybe that's why he was so nervous? Didn't play well at all, his team overcame it.

I think Big Ben fell into the perfect situation. He landed on a team with a very good defense and a solid running game and very good receivers. Basically his job is not to make mistakes.

Matt Leinart is supposed to be a better prospect than Palmer, and he didnt turn out too badly in Cincinati.

Vince Young is an intriguing prospect, even if he does have questions.

I think that Jay Cutler, and even Philip Rivers was rated higher than Big Ben as well.

To say that no one even on the horizon of a Big Ben is looking through blinders.

Ben did score 2 TD's so he was obviously a factor in the game. He did not have a great game but to be expected from such a young guy in that situation. Fact is though he did enough to get the job done and has since he's been in the league, very impressive kid. Actually seems this was the first game I have seen him play that he did not look totally poised throughout. He made some big plays and this game came down to those being the difference. Honestly we all knew Seattle was not that good, I mean did they have to play the quality teams Pitt did? In my mind the only questions was if Seattle could keep it close.

Blesto is that national scouting service the NFL uses. Ben Roethlisberger was the highest rated QB by Blesto his last year in college, ahead of River and ahead of Eli Manning. Rivers was rated a 3rd rounder going into his senior year, he shot up the boards from his senior bowl workouts and the game itself.

Ben had a significantly higher ranking than Cutler or Rivers.

Um, how about in the first three games of the playoffs on the road when Willie Parker and Jerome Bettis couldn't get any sort of running game going? Sure Ben had a disappointing Super Bowl, but he was easily the MVP of the AFC playoffs.

That being said, we made the right decision to draft Fitzgerald. We were only a year removed from the Pace/BJ debacle and if we took another no-name guy the PR backlash would've been disastrous. Yes, morons like Gambo and Bickley who now rips the Cards for passing on Ben would've destroyed the Cards in 2003. And while Ben might be on his way to the Hall of Fame, so is Larry Fitzgerald.

I wouldn't call throwing for 200 yards a game a MVP performance.

Not that it matters but, Ben's game QB rating was 22.6.

Steelers won in spite of him.

WOW!

I really can't believe people think Big Ben is a better player than Fitz. But you are entitled.

Yeah he is a good QB, but Fitzgerald is an AMAZING WR.

Cut it up anyway you like but Fitzgerald is a great WR, he is young, and has shown he can play with the best under any conditions.

Ben is surrounded by a GREAT team right now. I wanna see how he handles the downside of the rollercoaster.

Fitz is the better pick.

And what about Leinart, Young?

There are franchise possible HOF QB's that come out every year, or every other year. Big Ben is not a once in a lifetime draft. Franchise QB's come around every year as well.

give me Fitzgerald at the #3 again and again.

I think the argument is a very good young QB might be more valuable than a great young WR.

NO question Fitz is better at WR at this stage than Ben is at QB. But the question is value wise is having a guy like Ben at QB for the next 10 years better for a franchise than having Fitz is?

You can make cases both ways, great young QB to build around has a lot of value, so does a WR.

I'm happy to have Fitz, I think he's a marvelous player, iI wouldn't have picked him but I'm not mad we did. But I gotta admit I do watch Ben play and drool at the thought of him being a Cardinal. People can downplay his role all they want but compare his worst game(yesterday) to what Eli Manning did in his implosion.

To me Ben has something most young QB's don't have. For example yesterday on the big 3rd down he screws up the handoff to Bettis and just coolly takes off and gets the first down. Somehow he resisted the temptation to flip the ball behind his back to a teammate that someone else did when a handoff was missed a few years ago.

Considering the enormity of the Super Bowl I am not overly surprised Ben struggled. His stats would have looked better if Ward hadn't dropped that pass that hit him in the hands in the endzone.

Leinart had a higher Blesto rating but Young didn't. Blesto comes out before the season so this year is not factored into it.

Why does one have to be better than the other? They are both probably the top young players at their position. The only question with Fitz being the top young player is that Boldin may be better. Not a bad problem to have if you're the Cardinals.

To me this is the main point in the whole debate. The fact that it is debatable. But some of these lousy pundits act like we passed up BigBen to draft Wendall Bryant. Its going to take a few years to really tell which was the better pick. To me it should seem obvious that Rothligsberger could definetly be floundering away here, behind an awful line, no running game, Boldin injured for significant amounts of time, having BJ drop balls all over the place. Nonsensical to think he would be anywhere near his current level of success were he playing here.
