Fitz is going to be fine.I've been kind of down on him but he was dinged and seeing double teams as a rookie.Talyor was my choice also but i'm happy with Fitz.With Boldin coming back we will see the true value of LF.All that being said,we should have taken Leftwich last year.

I get sick of hearing that Fitzgerald has a ceiling. That he is polished and doesn't have great upside. That kid catches everything. He caught everything when he was at Pitt and he is doing it with the Cardinals. It is so crazy to downgrade a kid because he is polished coming out of college. This is a 20 year old kid who just flat out gets it and even better has the eye of a rabid dog underneath that glowing smile. Fitzgerald kind of reminds me of Tiger Woods when Tiger was kicking butt. Gives a great interview, smiles, says all the right things, but when it comes to competition he is ready to tear your head off and lives for getting better and for winning.

As for Roy Williams, he is a great talent but he has a little bit of Rob Moore in him (nagging injuries). Its already starting with the little day to day injuries that he had at Texas. I give the Lions credit. He is a great, great talent but the injuries are an issue.

Both have things that can't be taught. Williams has great "measurables", but Fitzgerald has those intangibles physical qualities that can't be measured with a stopwatch or bench press-(the strongest hands of any reciever ever, uncanny, tremendous body control, great Charles Barkley type ability to time his jump and get to the ball at its highest point).

I'd still take Fitz over Williams in a heartbeat.

I like Fitz but I would have to give some thought to Fitz over Williams. Williams is a pro bowl receiver right now and looks only to get better. His team record reflects his play. I love Fitz but would have preferred Big Ben and would have taken Fitz over Williams during the draft. At this point it is very much up in the air who will be the better receiver over the long haul Fitz or Williams. Both are and will be very good baring injury.

The fact that our defense is playing out of its mind eases my pain of not taking taylor.

The "O" needs every weapon it has now just to be functional. Frankly, I'm kind of thankful that we took Fitz.

as for RW vs. fitz? We'll see. Still too early to call that race.

Oh wait....Fitz has MCCOWN at Qb. This isn't ceteris paribus here. If I had to choose between Harrington (and his better offensive line as well) or McCown, I take Harrington ANY DAY of the week...

Fitz hasn't had equal Qb play. McCown is the the achilles heel of this offense right now (along with lack of speed at RB)...

Not even a comparison between the two QB's.

EDIT: Which doesn't mean I'm unhappy with Fitz, I just think these guys are and are going to be better.

Knowing what I know now if I weren't taking Ben I'd take Fitz, Roy is terrific but he can't stay healthy and that was the knock on him at Texas. Only started 4 games all year, 12 catches, played in 5 and finished I think 2 of the 4 he started. When healthy I still think he's a better fit for us but I think it's starting to look like he's going to have a problem staying healthy his whole career.

He'll be a good player for years but I have to wonder will his career go like Isaac bruce who just when everyone gave up on him as being injury prone, blossomed into a consistent star?

In hindsight Fitz to me was the better WR pick, I'd still have taken Ben or Sean Taylor myself but that's a whole other argument.

I don't remember "back in the day" because I didn't start really following the NFL as a whole until about 99, but Bruce started 16 games in his second and third seasons, going over 1300 yards each year, then had two seasons (97 & 98) when he started 12 games and 5, but still had 800 yards in his 12-game season. Then he took off and became a Hall of Fame player.

Look at the stats and tell me I'm wrong. He will break 12,000 yards receiving this season when he comes back.

97 and 98 Bruce had chronic leg problems, don't remember if it was calves or hamstrings but he was playing hurt, out hurt, he was on the injured list every week for 2 years. People were seriously speculating it was going to cut his career short. Then he did something, who knows what, and missed 1 game in the next 6 years.

That was why 99 was so out of the blue for the Rams, overnight they added Faulk, Warner for injured Green, drafted Holt, and got back Bruce who'd been hurt much of the prior year. So everyone was saying all they did was get Faulk but in reality they had 4 key guys who weren't on the team at all, or most of the prior year.

Bruce has always been good.

The Lions are 4-2 and one game out of first place in their division. Roy Williams is the playmaker and catalyst of their offense. Not only does he catch everything thrown at him, but he also can get behind the safeties, has a special relationship with his quarterback, and defenses must account for him on every play.

The Cardinals are 2-4. Larry Fitzgerald hasn't done much to separate himself from the rest of the "nobodys" in the WR corps. His play isn't a great contrast to that of Nathan Poole. He doesn't get behind the safeties, he doesn't get YAC yards, and he's not a candidate for OROY. I almost chuckled when the annoucers for yesterday's game referred to Fitz as "the Cards' stud rookie WR". What has he done to deserve the label "stud"?

Fitz's and Williams's stat lines were virtually identicial yesterday, but Williams only played like a half. Speaks for itself.

I'm pretty sure two years later I was bitching and complaining about Fitz being a wuss, always going to ground immediately after the catch.
