If It ends up being a Darko-esque pick in a Darko-esque draft, Phoenix should burn the Suns stadium to the ground.

They CAN NOT botch this pick. For so many reasons, the top of which is keeping Booker in the fold and optimistic.

Agreed. Fortunately I don't think there is a true bust in the Ayton, Doncic, Young group. They may not all be destined for stardom but I can't see any of them falling short of solid starter. I want more, obviously, but at least it's not the Len draft.

They said the same thing about the Darko draft.

Playing devil's advocate for a moment.

If Doncic turns out to be an elite player, the Suns might kick themselves for not drafting him, especially if the player they draft does not.

Huge sigh of relief about that.

I agree. The Suns should get a good player 1-4.

I will be shocked if Doncic turns out to live up to half the hype he has gotten. Of course, if we do pick him, I will hope that he does.

But taking him over either Ayton or Bagley, if either or both are available, will leave me with a very queasy feeling... and fully expecting the typical Suns "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" type result that has marked the Sarver era.

Probably true, few ever match expectations when the hype machine is running on high. But I will be equally shocked if Doncic turns out to play down to the non-athletic stiff write-ups I've read on the internet the past few months.

I'm more sure about Ayton than I am Bagley although Bagley will be a good offensive player. Now that the Suns have a new head coach involved, I feel better about the draft no matter who they take.

I'm counting on Kokoskov bringing more knowledge to the table for other picks as well.

I don't worry he will be a stiff so much as just nothing special. And then the seeing guys like Ayton, Bagley, Young, and possibly others turn out to be the next generation of stars in the league that will be really painful.

It's not so much what Doncic turns out to be as much as what we might likely be missing out on that bothers me.

This hire is a sigh of relief too. I was hoping it would not be Triano or Fizdale. Fizdale might end up being s good coach but I don’t see him getting along with Sarver.

I like the hire, a lot! Igor is smart guy, great coach, well-liked by everyone he's ever worked with.
He probably already knows what he wants to do with each player. He's worked on some great defensive teams, and he likes a lot of passing and movement on offense. I think Bender will flourish under Igor.

As for Doncic, nobody knows him better than Igor. Whichever way the draft goes will tell us a lot about Doncic.

I will double down and say I will be done with the franchise if that happens. And I will dedicate my life to making Robert Sarver miserable every single day of his life.

The last part might be an exaggeration, but it might not be either.
Seems kinda silly to do that before you actually see how those two actually turn out. I mean if Ayton is the second coming and Doncic sucks you’ll have plenty of time to oh your evil plan into effect. What happens if Doncic ends up the better player? You’ve already stated you’re done with the franchise.

This is a pretty decent/meh hire. They could’ve done better but they could’ve also done a lot worse. Igor is a largely unproven coach and gambling on the first ever Euro head coach in the NBA is pretty bold.

At least it’s not McHale or Kidd so we can be thankful for that! :D

Best of luck to Mr. Kokoskov.

Word is that he is pretty decisive. If he doesn't think he can develop a player, he is not going to waste time with him.
That's not what I heard. I heard he'll give you everything you need to be successful and if you're not, it's your fault as he'll give you every opportunity.

And hey, gives us all a chance to make new old jokes like:

"In Soviet Russia, you coach basketball team for owner. But in NBA city Phoenix, owner coach basketball team for you."
;)

All things considered I think this is a good hire. I hope the development talk is accurate. We could use that. And injecting a level of professionalism into the suns would be great.

If we take Doncic I have to believe Igor likes him and thinks he can develop him into something REALLY special at the nba level. Remember, IGOR’s career is likely going to be directly tied to how well the suns perform so it’s in his best interest to ensure he has the best talent possible.

I agree but I don't think it applies only to Doncic. I'm going to be just as bummed if we draft Ayton and Doncic and Young go onto All NBA careers while Deandre gets labeled as the king of empty stats. The stigma of wasting a top pick on a Euro still exists but we can't afford to miss whether we stay local or go overseas for our prospect.

Horrible hire. I hope the Suns get the 3rd or 4th pick in the lottery just so they don't get Doncic. The guy is not going to be an elite player.

Also if the Suns do not get the #1 pick, Doncic might well be their pick. It's good to have the bases covered.

As you note, Igor wants to be a successful coach.

I, of course, join everyone who hopes that Igor will be allowed to use his expertise and do his job.

I sure hope we (can and will) draft the player who fills our greatest need.

PRESS: You must be Igor?
Igor: No, it's pronounced, 'Eyegor'.
PRESS: They told me it was Igor.
Igor: Well they were wrong then, weren't they?
