Koskokov hiring, in my mind at least, makes it a greater chance the Suns would take Luka Doncic with No. 1 pick. Koskokov coached Doncic as part of Slovenia team that won EuroBasket 2017

if this team drafts Doncic when it has a chance to draft Ayton I will be pissed... much to everyone's surprise, I'm sure.

I do not think this makes Doncic any more of a possibility than before.

Finally the Suns are getting praise for doing something right.

Igor has been known to develop young players--even vets. Rubio is a case in point. Imagine what that means.

1. If Bender does not develop under Kokoskov, he is a true bust.
2. Kokoskov might even be able to make something of Elfrid. I had written him off completely.
3. He seems especially able to develop players as shooters. Hmmm. TJ with a reliable three, Jackson too.

I am a bit giddy right now.

this is important and even though I'm not super jazzed about the hire, it's very nice to see the Suns get kudos rather than scorn for once.

A big moment for Igor Kokoskov was the gold medal he won coaching Slovenia at EuroBasket last summer. Lot of NBA-types took notice. He’s as respected as they get in the assistant ranks.

All good points but I am especially intrigued about what Igor thinks about Bender.

I think it does make him more of a possibility. If your new coach believes in him that could provide some ease of mind for a scouting group worried about going Euro and failing. But for all we know, Igor might be as reluctant to take him as some of us are and for the same reasons. The difference, he'll actually know what he's talking about.

Word is that he is pretty decisive. If he doesn't think he can develop a player, he is not going to waste time with him.

Suns are in the developmental stage of rebuild—with another top pick on the way—and they just hired a guy known for being a great developmental coach. Smart hire by Ryan McDonough.

I guess it depends on where the Suns were on Doncic before the hire, and what Igor thinks of Doncic.

I agree with you exactly that whatever they do, they will now do with a true evaluation of the player.

I will double down and say I will be done with the franchise if that happens. And I will dedicate my life to making Robert Sarver miserable every single day of his life.

The last part might be an exaggeration, but it might not be either.

This is all well and good. It will be great to get a second opinion about Bender and Chriss heading into the draft.

I could say the same thing... but I know it would be BS.

I'm sure the Suns have already picked the brain of Kokoskov about the players in the draft and probably about Bender as well.

They must have liked what they heard. LOL

This is how much I’m kinda on board with this hire and trying to put initial best foot forward with Igor... my heart just forced my brain to ponder:

What if Doncic really is the European Magic Johnson?

Start at about the 3:00 mark. Likes Doncic a lot. Says a lot of good things about him. Says he could be a superstar. Does not say he WILL be a superstar. Does not say he should be the first pick. Talks about him being a 1-3 pick and then corrects himself and says "lottery pick."

I won't be totally ticked immediately if we pick Doncic at the first pick in the draft, but it had better prove to be a genius move!

It's good to have a coach that actually knows and has coached Doncic. I'm not saying Doncic will be our choice but if he is, Igor knows a lot about him.

Yeah, that would end a few Suns careers if Ayton goes on to stardom and Doncic ends up being a role player.

If It ends up being a Darko-esque pick in a Darko-esque draft, Phoenix should burn the Suns stadium to the ground.

They CAN NOT botch this pick. For so many reasons, the top of which is keeping Booker in the fold and optimistic.
