That's not a certain thing.

Jacobsen had huge numbers in college as well. We will see if Jackson can make the adjustment to the NBA quicker.

I'm not talking about numbers. I think Jackson is simply a better player. He does EVERYTHING better than Jacobsen did.

Jackson has been impressing people with his athleticism. I think Jacobsen has proven to be more athletic than we thought when he was drafted as the next Steve Kerry, but his never going to be a super athlete.

I honestly don't know how the Suns view Jacobsen. He improved a lot over his rookie year and is not an embarrassment on defense (which was a pleasant surprise). But his lack of a mid range game has meant that he is not nearly as productive on offense as I had hoped.

One interesting comparison is with Derek Fisher of the Lakers. I bring this up because I've seen people suggest signing Fisher as a free agent.

Casey Jacobsen
Phoenix Suns
Position: F-G
Height: 6-6 Weight: 215
College: Stanford '03

2003-04 Statistics
PPG 6.0
RPG 2.6
APG 1.3
SPG .62
BPG .12
FG% .417
FT% .820
3P% .417
MPG 23.4

Derek Fisher
Los Angeles Lakers
Position: G
Height: 6-1 Weight: 205
College: Arkansas-Little Rock '96

2003-04 Statistics
PPG 7.1
RPG 1.9
APG 2.3
SPG 1.26
BPG .05
FG% .352
FT% .797
3P% .291
MPG 21.6

The fact that Jacobsen shot as well for three as he did overall shows how much he needs a mid range game. About the only area where Fish was more effective was in assists, but Fisher was supposed to be a point guard. Eisley in the same minutes as Fisher had 4.1 apg, but I digress.

I would like the Suns to have a perimeter defensive stopper, which is why I prefer Iggy. Childress is supposed to be a good defender and perhaps Jackson has the athleticism to be one as well.

But it is not out of the question that the Suns will go another way if they think Jacobsen will improve enough to be their instant offense guy off the bench.
