you don't really believe that Q could excel at any other position on the field, do you? And you're not actually saying that Q is a better football player than Rice are you?

I would go as far as to say that Q is a better "football player" Is he a better WR? Hell no. but a better "football player" YES!

whatever that means. Did you get that term from Brain Baldinger? As in Q is a real "football player?"

It means Q would have a much better chance of playing a position other than WR. Whereas Jerry Rice IMO in his prime had no chance. Q is a better "football player" But Jerry Rice was the best WR to EVER play.

Meaning he would never need to play another position. Does this make McCown the better football player than Manning, because McCown had a better chance, and did, to play another position?

How about...

Josh McCown or Peyton Manning, which is the better WR??? :D

That discussion would make about as much sense as the rest of this thread.

uh, why? Rice was a great blocker, an unbelievable route runner, had the best hands in the game. How exactly is Q a better football player? Because he's more "versatile"? I' guessing Jerry Rice has more rushing yards than Q does at this point in their respective careers as well. Q isn't built to be a RB, and he'd be a horrendous QB - and the fact that Jerry is the greate... ok, this discussion is just flat out stupid.

I believe that Q could play well in many of them, yes.

I believe Q is an all around football player, everything you could want. He may not be the receiver Rice was but he is as much of a player.

is this based on... oh, nothing at all? Or is it based on Rice's 159 yard and 4 TD advantage on rushing yardage in his first 5 years versus Q's numbers?

if he's not even the player he is at his given position, how in the world can he be just as good of a player on the whole? He doesn't have Rice's speed and Rice has everything else Q has, so how exactly does that make them equals?

I need only look at how Rice dominated the Chargers in the Super Bowl. He is crazy. In the world of rice, he would be porcini risotto.

And yet not once in his career was he able to get a deal to endorse Rice a Roni the SF treat!

that's part of what made him super-human... that and the ridiculous body control, grace and hands that he had. Not to mention he was tough as nails. Guy came back from a torn ACL within one season... and caught a 40 yard touchdown pass on his first play back (where he proceeded to destroy his other knee I believe).

No he broke the kneecap on the knee he had the ACL done. It was a huge controversy because the 49ers were denying he'd come back too soon and yet many doctors came forward and said the fractured kneecap was a known issue with that type of surgery.

I remember the guy who operated on my knee twice telling me it was a big deal (he worked with the group who did Rice's knee) because the team basically asked them to lie about it and say it was coincidence so they didn't have to admit they rushed Jerry back.

Because Rice always had goofy hairdos!

what does 159 yards and 4 tds have to do with the fact that i think Q could play several other positions well?

Being dominant at one position does not make you an extremely versitile football player, it makes you really good at your position.

You can argue it all you want but this arguement obviously means a lot more to you than it does to me. Q is a card and Q is dominant and my favorite football player of all time. Nothing you can say will change that. Yes I would put him up there with rice based on who he is as a person and as a football player, on and off the field.

Tell me about some stats that prove they are different types of players again.

you're not serious are you?

Q's great, but Jerry Rice is one of the greatest, if not the greatest football player of all time. Putting Q in his airspace is beyond comprehension to me.
