Offering to give him more money after getting a lucrative new contract 1 year earlier is a slap in the face? Yeah, the money may not have been good, and no, it probably wasn't an offer of what he was worth, but still. Might it have been a 'take this now and we'll get you what we can later'? Might it have been a starting point? Might it have simply been a lowball? We can't know. All we can know is that Q and his agent broke talks off and played the waiting game. That, and an offer was made. So, he doesn't come off well at all in his multiple temper tantrums. Not singular---multiple.

I certainly can understand him being really upset about a lowball offer, and I can understand how that would be a slap in the face to him. To be a professional and to do well in getting a new contract, you have to put emotion aside and work from there. If that's seriously all this is, an extended temper tantrum, then he's not much of a man.

I think Q is upset from the initial offer, yes, of course. I think he's also upset with himself and his agent for playing a stupid negotiation-without-negotiation tactic that completely backfired. I think Q is upset that Fitz is the one that got the big money instead of him. Then there's the fact that Fitz is considered either the best WR in the game or the 2nd best, and Q is left so far behind. I think it all rolls up in a giant ball of angst, and that's what's driving his feelings on the issue. That, and his scumbag agent. I think, in Q's mind, he needs to go somewhere else and prove he can still be THE guy.

Of course, that's all complete speculation. I could be way off base, but I think I'm on the money. As a human I can't blame him for it, but as a fan and as someone who follows football I absolutely can and will fault him for how he is acting.

This could be the post of the year.

That offer was as bush league as it gets. True to this organizations reputation. He had every right to be pissed especially if the FO promised him what Q says they did. Which I'm inclined to believe since THEY DID MAKE AN OFFER!

Im dissapointed in Q and the way he has acted. However it doesnt make me mad or hate him or wish he were out of here. After all he has given this organization the last 6 years I can give him a pass on a temper tantrum no matter how out of character it is.

Q is a man of priciple and that offer IS such a slap in the face I can see why it has gotten where it has. Doesnt matter if I agree with it.

What EXACTLY was this bush league offer? And at what point was the offer as it related to his previous extension (first year, second, etc.)

I can see your point. But only to a point. :)

Your timeline is wrong. He didnt ask for a new contact after 1 year. The team per Boldin told him that if he made multiple pro-bowls they would renegotiate with him.

Well the offer of more money wasnt made until two off seasons ago(after2006). Which was after year 2 of said contract and 1st year immediately after he made his next/multiple probowls. Which shows that team made an offer right after making his 2nd pro-bowl and thus proves IMO that the team tried to live up to there promise even though it was a half azzed attempt.

Take that pro bowl year and the year right before and you have a WR averaging 1300 yards per and 92 catches per per season. Easily top 10 caliber production and production far above what his previous contract was paying regardless of amount of time in contract. You have that season in which he caught 103 and over 1400 yards and was snubbed from the pro-bowl. Could have just as easily had 3 PB's already.

So while the team may have made an offer it was a cheap bogus offer. They could have easily switched some of that extra salary they were offering to signing bonus and less in salary and I have no doubt he would have taken it. Especially considering that at the time he had ZERO idea of Fitz was going to make. But they chose not to even offer guaranteed money. Which in today's NFL is no offer at all. Especially for a player still in his prime. He deserves to be mad IMO.

However Im not disagreeing with you that he should have went about it differently. But Im not willing to kick him to the curb and just disregard him after all the football enjoyment he has given us over the years. You guys are and thats fine. I'm not.

Teh bush league offer was an offer for more money that wasnt guaranteed. Thus the team could just cut him and make him a cap casualty at any time. Thus BUSH league. Especially for a WR of his caliber playing at a top 10 level still in his prime. The team offered to do it. Thats on them.

I agree that he deserved (plural--he should be past that by now) to be mad at the FO. Now he deserves to be mad at himself and his agent, for not attempting to negotiate after the first offer. I'm just mad at Q because he's taking all kinds of angst from all sorts of other places, IMO, and throwing it back at the Cards.

Where else would you expect him to throw his angst? His agent? Is that what you mean?

Im sure you would feel that way if your bosses promised you something you didnt get. ;)

The 10 million guaranteed is really irrelevant at this point in time. It cant even be argued that he hasent outplayed that contract. Anybody with half a brain knows that and so does every single sports guy talking about it.

Shane, are you serious?? Really?? I've been in the workforce for more than 23 years now. I have been promised many things by many people. Hell, as a leader, I have been guilty of making a promise or two and due to "unforeseen" circumstances, not being able to live up to the promise... **** happens in real life dude...

I am not at all trying to argue that 'lil Q hasn't outplayed his contract. HE HAS!
I believe Stout nailed this one though... In the end, there are multiple sources feeding Q's anger... However, 'lil Q only needs to look in the mirror while holding a picture of his bestest buddy - Rosenhaus - and thank the two dudes looking back at him. Q, while being guided by his loser of an agent, rolled the dice and threw craps... Bummer...
Now, 'lil Q wants to cry about it... and cry... and cry... and cry...

I held so much respect for the warrior he is/was... However, I don't care what he did on the field. His actions off the field speak as loud to me.
Thanks for the years of enjoyment Q. Now, go be "lil Q somewhere else...

And I am not at all trying to "hurt" him... dude doesn't cry and can't be hurt! Well, not by me anyway... :p

Himself and his agent, yes, for being childish and playing games, and being mad that they backfired completely. I also think he's channeling a lot of negative feelings over Fitz getting all the love and attention instead of him into this deal too.

How exactly has it backfired? Q will get paid. Either by us or some other team. The likely hood we make him play out this contract is slim to none.

What games has he played? He is being very much to the point and not playing any games to be quite honest.

Well, the game he and his agent played was the 'ooh, that's a crappy offer, so we're turning our noses up at you and refusing to negotiate...we'll wait and see what Fitz gets hehe'. Yeah, that backfired horrendously. He played an entire year with a contract below his value. Then, he ended up with one horrific injury during the regular season, another injury later in the year, and still another in the playoffs--all which caused him to miss time, and all of which add up to lower his worth.

He's not going to get some astronomical payday. He may have been able to get somewhere close to Fitz money from some team before this season, but no way he gets that now. That's how he and Rosenpuke's game cost Q a lot of dough.

I beg to differ. He wont get Fitz money IE a 20 million dollar signing bonus. But he never would have anyway. But it wouldnt shock me to see a 15 million dollar SB. What he has done hasent hurt his value in the slightest. The only people that care about this stuff is fans like you.

You mistake what I meant would decrease his value. Not the whiney stuff, no. How about 3 injuries in one season that each caused him to miss time, one of them a major injury. THAT surely has decreased his value. His injury history is piling up.

Boldin inked his extension on july 5, 2005 and recieved his bonus of about 14 million.

He plays the 2005 season.
He plays the 2006 season. (this is when talks suppsedly began)
He plays the 2007 season ( starts saying he wants new contract and that he and team had been discussing this for the past year.)
He plays this season and says at probowl team has been discussing for two years.

To me, this timeline suggests he played but one season under his new deal before griping about said contract.

Your timeline would be wrong. Because if he signed it in July 2005 then he played the 2005 season and then the 2006 season AFTER SIGNING the contract. Thus two season later. The team made the offer for more money after the 2006 season even though they didnt have to. Which would lead anyone to believe that Q was right and the team did offer to redo his deal if he made multiple pro-bowls (he made it for 2006).

It was a slap in the face to offer more money but not bonus money. The team could have easily offered him another 7 million in guaranteed money right then for a total of 20 million guaranteed in a two year period and he IMHO would have taken it and been happy. But they didnt they went bush league on him and only offered to bump his salary giving him ZERO protection as a player. Thus the insult.
