Your second paragraph is very true ( the part after, "I am not a FOOTBALL expert...") It happened to all of our OLBs... almost like they were taught that way.... nah... I'll give the coaches the benefit of the doubt. I do think, however, that our coaches were very concerned, and rightly so, with stopping the run first... that often translates into more bitting on play action.
I would like to point out that, IMO at least, Fish did have a major (minor?) impact. I believe he is THE reason that R. Thompson's OLB play improved... I get the impression from most posts I have read on this matter, that most of you think that, for the most part, overall LB play improved. Tell me honestly, do you think that all improvement was a result of "another year's experience"? I think it was a result of COMPETITION...
As far as I know Fish is training (including running). I do not know at what intensity level... When I saw him last he seemed to be pleased with his progress. I tried not to talk too much FOOTBALL during that visit as he could not stay long AND his new bride was with him. I wanted her to feel welcome to our "family". I do hope to see him in the very near future and I will tell him of this board's interest.
Excellent post Wildman and Ed B.
I think he did have a major impact in the development of Ray Thompson. You could tell that Ray felt threatened by the presence of Levar.
Levar showed aggressiveness, speed, and the ability to lay the wood. If he can learn to not bite on play fakes, get a little stronger, and learn the defense better, he will, and I mean will be a very good player!
