Turnovers are officially this team's weakness, and Nash is the weakest link.

Tonight vs Portland:

Team shot 57% FG / 67% 3FG / 86% FT

And. We. Lost.

Nash +/-: -19
Phoenix 16 TOs (Nash 6) / Portland 6 TOs

Portland had 15 more FG attempts and 5 more 3FG attempts.

I can't see Nash getting out of this rut. He is a shell of his former self. I think it's time we put the "backup pg situation" on the backburner and focus on the starting PG.

He can still get things done. But SOME things are concerning. Only some, wait and see, only time will tell if he is absolutely declining dramatically.

Color me concerned.

Its not so much his offense and turnovers I worry about (although he has been frustrating me every game I have watched with his inability to take care of the ball and missing shots he use to make - but I think alot of that has to do with the expectation level he set the past 3 years) as it is his six year old girl defense.

I can't tell if Steve Blake is John Stockton Part 2 or Nash just made him look that way. All of a sudden I am seriously pondering a Nash for Bayless, Outlaw, Blake package though.

I guess I am in wait and see mode. Now would be too soon to cut the chord but that could change by the deadline.

Ridiculously stupid thread! Only a few PG's in the league are better than Nash and we aren't getting any of them! I guess some aren't happy with a 2 time MVP top 5 PG. Always someone with a brilliant post after a tough Suns loss!

I dont' see why everyone is getting so huffy like he just called out the pope.

Maybe 'done' isn't the proper word but Nash isn't the same to start this season.

The brilliance of his play the past few years was playing at such a break neck pace and NOT turning over the ball. That has been our achilles heel this season and he has been one of the main offenders. He is also not shooting at the clip he used to.

I love Nash. Always have. Always will. But wondering if he is losing it at this point isn't crazy. In fact it's common sense.

I voted no.....he can still put up good numbers & be an offensive catalyst for a higher tempo team.........but he just doesn't function well in this offense.

my sentiment exactly. the better question would be, "is Nash a better fit somewhere else?"

watching as how LB, Barnes, Amare and others doing very good job at initiating offense, you just realize that Nash dominating the ball is a misfit for this team.

Nash is having his worst year shooting since he returned to Phoenix. He's shooting 47.9% from the field goal compared to his previous low of 50.2% (from 2004-2005 on) and 41.6% compared to his previous low of 43.1% (from 2004-2005 on).

His turnovers are tied for as high as they've been at 3.8 and his assists are a lot lower with 8.4 vs 10.5 (from 2004-2005 on).

So I guess he does to seem to be declining, even more than it seemed last year.

When all is said and done this year, I think Nash could still rank in the top 5-10 PG's. But, I wouldn't be opposed to trading him for a high draft pick and a few younger players. (What could the Knicks offer?)

He probably does hinder the offense a bit. And he DEFINITELY hinders the defense. But put him with Dantoni and I think his numbers spike again.

I think this thread is a valid discussion based solely on his A/TO ratio. Dont flip out on me because our floor leader is breaking down.

Exactly. When your point guard has a 2.23 A/TO ratio, good for 39th among all guards, and leads the league in turnovers (well, tied for 1st place), this discussion in warranted.

Here is how I look at it-
Nash is THE worst defender among point guards. That was tolerable because he used to more than make up for it on the other side of the court. Now that he is not only not an offensive threat, but, in fact, a liability, one has to conclude that he is indeed done.

He is not done give me a break...quick name 5 point guards that are better in the NBA? People need to stop the ridiculous over reactions to a loss geesh, were like 25 games into the season with a new coach and still trying to figure out our system, oh and 3 games in with new players again to try and incorporate. We scored 119 points and lost to a good team with a player that could have made shots from the parking lot last night. Oh and by the way Nash is not responsible for Roy going off as everyone gaurded him all night and NO ONE could stop him.

I've been throwing this notion around since mid-season last year. I've always had a minor conspiracy theory that DA was literally running this team into the ground knowing everyone's ages (especially Nash) and he would take his leave when he saw the inevitable breakdown coming. Not to say I don't appreciate the seasons he brought us but his style certainly wasn't doing much to prolong Nash's career. Hell Nash probably even knew he wasn't going to be doing much again without DA's system. He was thankful for the two MVP's.
Can everyone agree that Nash will probably retire after his contract expires this time? My question is why hasn't PHO been planning for this and using Nash to mentor a nice young prospect for the past couple years? Ridiculous. I think we should trade him.

Paul, Williams, Harris, Billups, and Parker are my top 5, followed by Davis, Calderon, and Miller. Kidd, Nelson, Rondo, Bibby and possibly Duhon are at least comparable to Nash, if not better than him.

Nash said some time after we acquired Dragic that he wanted to keep on playing after his current contract expired.

We did...we drafted the #2 point guard in last year's draft. :p

This I know. Along with a few other draft picks we could have used. Why didn't we keep them is what I'm saying. It's utterly ridiculous to just think Nash is going to hold up especially after those hard seasons of running and using his only defensive skill of taking a charge.
I didn't hear that he wanted to keep playing. I don't know what to say about that. Mid 30's isn't that old by any means, and I myself plan on being twice as vigilante in my later years than now. This is the NBA though and most guys primes are in their 20's. :|

I voted maybe, I have seen almost every game this year and Nash is not the same and he is becoming more selfish with the ball as well, Him and Amare dont seem to be working well together at all, i want to see alot mor pick and rolls with those two
