I read this from a sports reporter today. Is this crazy or does it make any sense? I sure do not know.

"Per multiple reports, the Seattle Seahawks have dangled QB Tarvaris Jackson out on the open market after acquiring Matt Flynn via free agency and drafting Russell Wilson. Jackson has always been a bit of an underachiever in both Minnesota and Seattle, so I personally don't see him as a fit. Still, Jim Trotter from Sports Illustrated thinks that the Cardinals players would welcome him with open arms.

Another option is Colt McCoy, a young quarterback who may have never had a fair shot with the Browns. Their receiving corps isn't exactly the best, so McCoy is a more intriguing option and prospect then Jackson. Still, I would prefer Kolb and Skelton over him based on what I have seen.

I'm hoping that our 2013 staring quarterback is currently on the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Tyler Wilson 2013!

Our QB is on our team right now. It's Richard Bartel. Well at least until pre season games are over.

61.5% completion percentage and 120.67 QB Rating through the first two games!

The guy's awesome. 22 games and 188 attempts with a Career pre season 68.62% completions and 95.41 QB rating. Last 4 pre seasons: 72% completion percentage and 120.11 QBR and a 7.69-1.92 TD-interception %.

One of the greatest pre season QBs to ever play the game.

Peacetime hero Wartime F-UP. He had his chance and failed.

I'm not the world's biggest Richard Bartel fan, but I'm not sure that it's fair to say that 1 1/3 quarters of mop up duty against the league's best defense on the road is an accurate way to say that "he had his chance and failed."

I mean, he's a dog, but he's just the kind of guy who knocks around the league for a half-dozen years as a #3 QB.

Remember how we were really interested in Charlie Whitehurst a couple years ago? Our quarterback evaluations are so incredibly dumb.

Can we just state this as fact, and accept it board wide ?

All actions, and results from said actions have proved this to be true.

I've really railed against this notion through blind faith in Whis and co. but I have to admit that the only decent QB we've had in Warner, wasn't developed so much as fell into their laps. Cutting down his fumbles is about the one thing I think they improved upon, but they didn't fix his accuracy, release, footwork, etc. He was a gift from the football Gods. Every other QB they've tried to develop has played at an indescribable level of suck.

It's totally depressing and I'm really starting to think Whis should bring in an offensive consultant to specifically scout and develop QB's (not talking about a QB coach). I love our coach, but he's not getting the job when it comes to QB's. I like most of our other pieces (we can discuss Oline another time), but the QB is the single most crucial position.

Nailed it

:band:

Haven seen enough of him yet. What is it you guys like so much? Personally am a big Matt Brakley fan and feel pretty confident saying he is better prospect and will bve drafted higher.

Are you both saying Wilson is more likely to be available where we would draft or if you had your pick he is the #1 guy you would take?

Colt McCoy last night in for one series, 4-6-58 leading a 75 yard TD drive.

He would be the guy I take no matter what. I have watched him ever since he came in for Mallett and lit up Auburn 2 years ago(iirc, i posted as much way back then). He's the best QB I have seen in years, Luck included. He can make every throw in the book, is athletic, and faces stiff competition almost every single week of the year. It's not like he has elite talent around him like Barkley does either. Granted, he has good talent, but it's not at the level of LSU, Bama, Georgia and Florida. The only game I have really seen him struggle a bit was against LSU last year and he still completed 63% of his passes but only for 207 yards, and 1 TD yet still had a 148 rating. He had a worse statistical agame aginst Ole Miss, but that was one of those odd days where everything that could go wrong did with dropped passes, fumbles, etc. Yet he still rallied them to victory. I remeber watching that game in Majerle's when I was in Arizona for Cards/Steelers game.

You are right in that Barkley may be drafted higher, but it will be a mistake.
Plus, you know he has to be good if K9 and I are agreeing on QB play :D.

I like Colt..Better than 60% comp as rook. Had more TD than INT's last year and showed good pocket presence and toughness.. Have watched both pre season games and he has played well.

the guy who impressed me the most from Cleve was Montario Hardesty. I'd like to see the Cards pick him up. Three injury prone RB's are better than two :D.

I don't think we're going to hold the #1 overall pick, so I don't think we'll have a chance at Barkley anyway. But even if we somehow did, I'd rather have Wilson.

I like Wilson because he plays for a second-tier program in the best conference in the country. He's incredibly efficient and can make all the throws.

I also don't like Barkley because I think he could be maxed out. He's gotten the finest coaching money could buy through his high school career, and then has been surrounded by incredible talent on both sides of the ball at Southern Cal. It's hard to gauge a guy who is playing more than half his games against guys that aren't going to get close to him for the three quarters before he's pulled for the second unit.

Blech. You dump on Matt Leinart, but Colt McCoy put up 5.9 YPA last season in 13 games. What's the logic there?

Every QB in the 2013 draft is a project of some kind, even Matt Barkley. Asking any of them to come in and start means starting over, IMO. Maybe that needs to happen, but there's no Andrew Luck or RGIII in next year's draft.

So what? Hes still a young kid with potential who was over 7.0 YPA in his rookie season with over 60% completion. He still developing. Leinart is in his what 7th or 8th year and in his last appearance was averaging 4.3 YPA..

Not to mention McCoy has arguably the worst group of WR's in the NFL to throw to. Yet you got a guy like Andy Dalton who the whole league is high on who had a YPA of 6.5 which isnt great either. You are a stat manipulator and will pull out the tiniest thing to try and drive a point home. Always have always will be.

Maybe as of right now today but I don't agree that will be the case a year from now with both of the top QBs expected to have Huge seasons.

I agree. When I originally posted in this thread that I didn't like him, I accidentally called him "Clausen". If that isn't a subconscious indicator of my faith in that kid, I don't know what is.

I think that any football guy would tell you that after TD:INT ratio, YPA is maybe the most important metric of a QB's success.

I know it's not a stat, but how about this factoid: The Cleveland Browns are openly shopping him and drafted a quarterback in the first round after that stellar second season.

How's that line up with your analysis of Colt McCoy's potential?

Hard to say. Since Brandon Weedon is suspect in many experts eyes. The Cleveland Browns could be the next "whisnehunt" like staff with QB's ;)
