Is there a NFL team out there that would start McCown next year?

I think his best option might be the CFL.

Considering Rick Mirer had a 9 year NFL career, Josh will be fine. Most teams will take into account that he was on a bad one-dimensional team and have someone try to coach him up.

There will be several teams interested in him ... trust me.

But hey Jake Plummer did nothing once he left here right, same with Thomas Jones

Maybe even San Francisco would pick him up and let him battle for the #1 spot with Smith.

Josh will be fine because career backups make a boatload of money, but he won't be guaranteed a starting job next year like many on this board claim.

There are a number of teams that need a starter or backup ... Miami, Baltimore, Oakland, maybe San Fran, New Orleans, Jets, etc

He'll get a job somewhere

Whereever he goes, I don't think he'll be handed the starter's spot. He'll have to compete for it.

There will be no battle with Smith. The guy is making 50 million, he'll play unless injured. I don't think there is a single team in the league that would start him. I.M.O. Maybe if Brad Johnson wants to go elsewhere, Josh could start there until Culpepper comes back.

Probably but like I've said the past couple years don't over-estimate the play from the QB position league wide. There are some really good ones in the league but there are many more bad ones

Boller is better then McCown, they might have a competition, but if Boller could play at the level he has been as of late. It would not be much of a competition.

He'll stay in the NFC because NFC Qb's stink right now. I don't think SF will take him Nolan is talking about getting a veteran mentor for Smith. In the pregame show Bubba Paris asked him that point blank saying Montana had DeBerg, young had Montana, Smith has nobody. Nolan said he agreed and hoped to address that, no way they consider Josh a mentor.

Evidently you missed the game today ... 0 TDs, 2 INTs. They will get someone to compete with him

Well if you want mentors the only decent one not signed is Warner.

Not going to happen either.

Josh has the Cardinal factor his his favor, everyone's going to assume he just needs more coaching and that the team sucked around him.

It may be wrong but that's going to get him some extra $.

The Patriots and the Colts are actually wanting to give McCown the staring nod on both teams..... Evil Ash shut up...seriously

Wow way to prove me wrong by naming 2 teams that don't need a QB. Psst Just in case you didn't notice there are 32 teams in the league.

Quit taking everything so personal dude

Common sense that McCown is a marginal starter/backup. Any team that brings him on with have competition for the starting position and won't just hand him the keys to the car.

I think Josh will do well if he goes to a decent team.

He should go to Miami IMO. Much better coaching and the team is pretty solid, they just need a few players.

Yup! Just imagine Josh with a decent running game.

(The point that is so often lost when evaluating Josh)

Here's where I think he might be involved in a camp QB competition:

Miami
Baltimore
New Orleans
Green Bay
Detroit
Redskins
Buffalo

Yeah if I had to bet, I'd say he'll be in Detroit next year. They clearly aren't convinced on Harrington, Garcia is washed up, they need another QB, and Josh has at least shown he can put up numbers with good WR's, Detroit will hope Josh will get that out of their WR's.

Miami is possible, Ravens will probably draft a QB, Saints will take Leinart, both cases Josh won't want to be the caddy. GB is possible, if Favre retires, and Rodgers isn't ready, but let's be honest just like K9's point about Josh in NY, does anybody really believe Josh is going to CHOOSE to be the guy who replaced Favre at QB? Can you imagine the pressure?

Don't see Washington liking him, they have Ramsey, Brunell and Campbell. Buffalo keeps insisting they like Losman, not sure why but I'll believe they do.

If I had to put money on it, he'll be a Lion next year.

Not to stir the pot, but if we all agree that no one is going to give starter's money to Josh McCown--he'll get nothing near what Warner got from us--then what's the downside to placing the "Transition" tag on McCown. I don't know what the transition number is this offseason (Joeshmo? A little help?), but if it's reasonable, there's no reason we can't rescind it if we don't find a QBotF in the draft.

I don't even like McCown, but he may be the best #2 out there, and if no one's going to throw money at him, it might be worth a chance. We can always rescind the tag.
