It's my understanding that Rackers was hurt almost the whole season last year. Has any one else heard this? Hmm?
I never heard anything about physical injuries, but it was quite evident that he rightfully had some hurt pride and emotional scaring.

You do remember that Tynes missed two 4th quarter field goals against GB right? Doesn't sound too clutch to me. Okay if it was snowing, but it wasn't. Give Rackers a break, FG's are all about timing and playing musical holders doesn't help the guy. I give him pre-season to see how he does and then we decide.

Yeah, but he put it through when it counted.

Should we cut him ... absolutely not

Should he have competition ... absolutely yes

Then let the best kicker remain

Bingo.

I want to see someone brought in to pressure him for the job. In my opinion, h hasn't earned the right to be the unquestioned starter for this team. If he wins the job based on performance, not much I can really complain about.

Kickers need to have ice water in their veins...Rackers has lava. It's really that simple. Plus, his quirky, superstitious approach to kicking (like kicking frantically into the net without a helmet on and then rushing onto the field in the nick of time) is likely to make even the casual fan a tad anxious.

If Rackers didn't have the one lights-out year, he'd be long gone by now, unless the team felt it could keep an extra kicker on the roster for kickoffs.

Plus the guy is perhaps the best on-side kicker we Cardinal fans have ever seen.

I still think he is a great option for us!

I also agree with you on this matter. Blame Whiz for this problem, buy cutting Player and bringing in his one man.

People on this this thread really do not get how important it is to have total continuity between your kicker and his holder. In baseball the same may be said between a Pitcher and his Catcher. IE Tim MacCaver and the hall of fame left hander who's name slips my memory Tim followed him from Philly to St. Louis and back to Philly. There are more to be mentioned this continuity is very important.

But he did and it makes a huge difference

If the Cardinals can start playing better all around the game won't have to come down to the kicker as often.

you're stupid. it shouldn't matter if it comes down to one kick, hes the kicker and he missed routine kicks, not difficult ones every time

Put me in the stupid catagory too. When we have a "D" that can hold a lead, then we won't have to depend on a kicker who has proven that he isn't very great in the clutch.

So I guess that ===>:stupid: 2.

So why even have a kicker if you are not supposed to need a good one??

That's a fairly large stretch of what I said, CF. But if you want to take it to extremes then you could make that argument. For example, look at the hey-day of the Rams when Martz would play basically without a kicker and always go for it on 4th down and only attempt 2-pt conversions. They were one of the best teams of all-time offensively and could get away with it.

I guess that if you can score at will then you can make the point that perhaps even a "D" is unnecessary, but I wouldn't want to test the situation out.

I like what Jeff is onto, the idea of maybe pushing the limits offensively.

Yeah, it's important to have a good kicker, but much like when Leinart went out and Warner turned the team to a more passing based attack, a team with a weak kicker (or punter) should find a way to work around it, probably by being more aggressive.

Just a thought, but heck, I could be dumb.

I've been away at basketball practice the last few hours, only to return & find a thread pertaining to Mr. Rackers. NO ONE bashed him last year like I did, so I feel obligated to speak up. First, let me state some positives. 1. He is definitely the best onside kicker I have ever seen. 2. Touchbacks are important & he's pretty good in that area. Unfortunately, that's NOT enough. How many games does this guy have to cost us before we finally come to grips with the fact that he is a CHOKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If we want to get to the playoffs, Rackers has to go. No ifs, ands or buts. I've been following the Cardinals for 44 years & I don't remember a Cardinal kicker that missed as many game-winning kicks as this guy. Jim Bakken was a good kicker, but he was a GREAT kicker when they counted. This team will continue to play in close games so it is imperative that we find a new kicker. Please stop the nonsense that we can't find anyone better. Hell, we pulled this guy off the street when Cincy finally tired of his gagging antics. He teases you with that big leg & then RIPS your heart out when the game is on the line. Enough is enough - Rackers must go - NOW!!!

I'm on board with Rackers. Yeah he cost us some, but he needs another shot with his holder in place all season. He's too good to discount.

I think the better question is: Is Rackers to hard on the fans?

Well said, and on a side note my dad always said if his life depended on one kick it would have been Jim Bakken who he would want kicking it. I ran into Jim a short while ago and told him that story. He was in a down town pub tilting back a few as wisconsinites tend to do.

I just looked up his stats too, and JB wasn't a great kicker with only making 63.1% of his kicks, but it was a different game and style of kicking back then, and he was the best at the time and was Mr. Clutch.
