Isn't right now the best time for a trade?

Which it often is. That's sort of like saying, "It rarely rains in Seattle, unless there are gray clouds in the sky."

I don't think it is. Usually a player with a bad contract is hard to move in the MLB. Vernon Wells for the Toronto Blue Jays has a horrible contract and is unmovable even after many attempts by the Jays to move him. In the MLB, a player who is a star and is about to hit free agency nets a lot of good prospects (or major league talent) in return. The prospects may not pan out but they are elite level prospects nonetheless. There are exceptions of course, but its not like the NBA where you can trade away a star player and get a Protected first round draft pick back and a salary dump of a player.

This is not time to get trade happy. Yes, the Suns might be looking for a good deal right now, but we are not contenders and we do not have disgruntled players. Its time to lay low and wait for some other team to get panicky and need to make a trade.

We have a great player and expiring in Richardson. He is very tradeable. We need to wait and get value if we are going to move him. If not, sign him. He is young enough and a great player. if we can keep him for a reasonable number, do it.

Beasley was available for the taking, but the Suns didn't want him.

It's true that the Suns are very low on attractive trade assets right now, the result of many years of poor personnel decisions.

MLB trades are often even more lopsided. But, in any case, it's not the NBA's fault that the Suns have saddled themselves with this roster.

Yeah, I think a Beasley for Amare deal could have been worked.

Agreed on all levels.

Too many people (no offense Sunsfan88, your not the only one and I'm not intending to target you directly) have a view that you can wave a magic wand, make a trade and things will instantly improve. You have to consider many variables when making a trade, you have to find a partner willing to trade and a chip that would be a fit both in the system and chemistry-wise.

The part I bolded I most agree with. Unfortunately, in most video games, we can overload the system enough with one sided deals and get the gaming system to finally budge.

Not that the afforementioned players aren't tradable chips, however the value you're going to get in return isn't going to be as high as people think.
Who said I come up with biased trades?

Its known that SAC needs a PG or a guy to take the ball handling off Evans. They could also used a SF because they don't have much depth at that position.

Jason Thompson is getting rotten sitting on their bench. He can come to PHX and START. We can sent SAC Dudley or Turkoglu.

I don't see how that's such a ridiculous trade.

I don't understand what you're looking for in a basketball trade that you think already exists in the baseball world. In baseball, you often trade prospects for established players but it's really a stretch to actually consider them prospects. Most players in the minors, even the highly regarded ones, never become much of anything. The vast majority of these "prospects" flounder so how is that better than what goes on in the NBA?

Just to clarify, Dec 15th is the date that has to pass before newer guys like Hedo can be traded. Not that anyone is going to take his ridiculous albatross of a contract anyhow though. But I do wish the Suns would blow it up, however its going to be tough given that they have minimal talent on bad contracts.

You have zero leverage in trades in the NBA, unless your dealing with Memphis lol (see Pau Gasol in exchange for center Kwame Brown, rookie point guard Javaris Crittenton, and two first-round draft picks in 2008 and 2010.)...

The Grizzlies also got back Marc Gasol in that deal who's probably a top 10 NBA Center right now, so you can't say the deal was that lopsided. I love the NBAs salary match requirement for trades, for the most part it keeps bad owners from selling off their parts every year like in baseball with teams like KC and Pittsburgh.

I'm pretty sure the Suns could've beaten the Lakers last year if the Lakers had Marc instead of Pau.

Talk about revisionist history. Sure, now the deal looks a little better than at the time, but it's common knowledge that the Grizzlies did not make an attempt to get the best deal. With Pau being an MVP candidate and the difference between the Lakers being a middle of the West team and a championship team, it will still go down as one of the biggest heists in NBA history no matter what Marc Gasol, (a late 2nd rounder at the time) does.

It wasn't a heist. It was orchestrated by the league to get the Lakers back on top and making lots of money. I've always believed that the Griz owner got a big fat under the table payment as part of this deal.

Highly doubtful. How many people would have to be involved in order to orchestrate this conspiracy? There'd be an NBA equivalent Wikileaks site with more than enough leaked evidence if this were the case. I'll tell you a little secret; nobody can keep a secret. Oops, now that one's out of the bag also.

I guess I agree with Chap. After the great success the Baron era hs been at beating up on bad teams, I think we can look forward to an 8th place finish and getting either the Spurs or the Lakers in the first round. IMHO, getting out of the first round is going to take more than a bench guy from the Kings.

Right now it seems the Suns have some good players who are wildly inconsistant. They do well one night and badly the next. Great players have few "off " nights and bad players only rarely have "on" nights, but good players have too many off nights and not consistely good nights - especially against top teams.

At this point, the Suns have proven they CAN play decent defense and even rebound, but until they prove they can do it night in and out, they are only a slightly better than 500 team. That is going to be hard.

Thompson isnt a bench player. He starts. He only used to come off the bench cause they have so many big men, unlike the Suns.

He plays well for the sorry SAC so he would BEAST with Nash and the Suns.

And the Suns have yet to show that they can play decent defense against good teams.

I really doubt Thompson is going to make the Suns play decent defense. I'm not knocking Thompson (he's damn good), but the Suns are naturally a crappy defensive team. To expect them to guard premier players and shut them down is a pipe dream. All I want is a few key stops and a good offensive pace against the better teams of the league.

I don't oppose a trade for Thompson, I'm just not conviced he is going to make a huge difference. Some, but not a huge amount.

As for the Suns defense, they have proven they can play some defense. Right now their biggest problem is dealing with good three point shooting teams. Running at guys who are a long way, away seems to make the Suns very vulnerable to fakes. Until the Suns learn to recover from the wing to get back inside rather than try to recover from the inside to get to shooters, they will get killed by the three. This is really obvious when guys set up in the corner with a screen.

Thats two of you guys speaking as though Thompson is on his way to the Suns. I can't imagine such a thing is actually afoot.

I could conceive of the Kings trading Dalembert for Turkoglu as Eric suggested... he'd probably help their team and they're in dire need of help.

I'd give up my firstborn to see that happen (shame I don't have any kids), but Dalambert's contract expires at the end of the season so I don't see them trading him for the 4 years left on Hedo's cancerous contract. Especially since decent small forwards much younger and cheaper than Hedo are fairly easy to come by.

A trade involving Thompson for someone like Warrick etc would be more plausible, even though none of us have any real idea if the Suns or Kings are even considering it.

Shoot, do you think we could loan Hedo to them for a couple of months, let them see if he helps them out?

So, you solve the SF logjam by trading one for another?

No he's getting rid of Hedo's horrible contract by trading for a worse one.

AI is averaging 13.9 ppg, 6.6 rpg, and 5.5 apg... not bad numbers, but hardly worth $12.3M, $13.5M, $14.7M, and $15.9M over the next 4 years.

How about Hedo for someone "like" Troy Murphy?
