Isn't right now the best time for a trade?

Supposedly the Knicks are looking to trade Anthony Randolph for a first-round pick. Now Randolph hasn't played much this year, and is starting to look like a bust. But the potential is still there possibly. A first-round pick in next year's draft may not be worth that much, because it is supposed to be a very weak draft, and furthermore the potential lockout may result in many players staying in school. Would a lottery-protected 2010 first rounder be worth the gamble?

The question in my mind, could the Suns get more if they packaged a first with a player. I just do not know how good Anthony Randolph can be but I certainly think the Suns should consider it. Maybe the Suns could get Hickson from Cleveland. They are in trouble and Hickson does not like coming off the bench. Obviously there are other young players that may be on the trading block around the league.

He's only 21 yrs old,and has the ceiling to potentially be someone the SUNS can build a team around. Randolph needs to mature, and bulk up though....

I am tired of building around little men and players who couldn't defend a chair.

If the SUNS could somehow get a deal like this done,i'd also extend JRich. However,i'd still look to move Nash/Hill for whatever someone is willing to offer. If Hedo the Turk is going to stay here and get paid, let's put the ball in his hands where he's been effective in the past.

None of the above will happen. :D

I agree, never again pass the ball to Hedo until we play in Orlando. Excellent idea. BTW, speaking of players that couldn't defend a chair, did Hedo come to mind for anyone else?

I say trade them all and build our team around the best the NBDL has to offer. We ought to be able to pick up 3 or 4 first round picks for the bulk of our assets along with a few contracts that others would like to move. Nothing in the Hedo territory but a two or 3 year deal in the 5 to 8 Mil range would be acceptable. Then, in 2016, we'd be primed to re-enter the playoff picture. There would probably only be about 12 of us fans left but I used to talk to myself and I can do it again if necessary.

Yes Anthony Randolph is still young and full of potential. But they guy started out as untouchable in GS and was traded to NY where he hasn't played well either. In fact, NY has made their run with DA choosing to put him on the bench. I don't know if he will be of much help especially if it costs us a 1st round pick. I would rather package that pick for a guy like Jason Thompson, who is playing so well that he may not be on the block but may make a guy like Carl Landry expendable.

I'd spin the wheel on Jason but I'm not too thrilled about Landry. His rebounding numbers have gone down consistently since his rookie year and while he might help us a little he's a long way from being a difference maker. On a good team, he's in the Lou Amundson class at best and that's something we need but not something we need to pay much for.

I think i like Landry more than you do,but you're right about not overpaying for him. He's almost surely reached his ceiling. I do think he could come in here and help this recycled roster to make a little noise in the playoffs, but i'm not really interested in that at this point.

Whatever we do, we need to sit Hedo. He is playing poorly and he is keeping us young players from minutes that would help us determine their usefulness.

If we do trade a pick and a player--lets make sure the player is a wing!

D'Antoni likes a short bench so Randolph getting scant minutes in NY doesn't tell us much - he's also putting up a Barron like FG% so far. His career avg is 45% though and getting 5.8 FT/40 indicates he plays inside some of the time. He's a tall skinny dude so he's not exactly what I would like at PF (6'11 - 225). Got to like his numbers though 12.4 reb/40, 2.6 blks/40 - better than any current Suns player in both categories. Assists are also good for a big - 2.7/40 min - (Hill 3.0, Hedo 3.5 this year).

Worth keeping on the radar.

Hedo's like +25 over the last 2 games.

Actually, no. While Hedo is not a defensive stopper, he is a competent defender when it comes to guarding 3s and even some 2s. I put him in the same category as J-Rich- competent. Definitely not great, probably not even "good", but definitely not a horrible defender like Nash and Amare, for example.

Hmmm, I think Amare is a much better defender than Hedo. Hedo can stay with about half of the SF's but very few of the off guards and even fewer of the PF's. Amare, unlike Hedo (to my knowledge, limited as it is about the guy), has actually won a few games with his defense. He's come up with big steals and even bigger blocks when the spotlight was bright. Amare should have been a great defender and settled for much, much less but he's still heads and shoulders above Hedo IMO.

A steal or a block is not really defense. Anybody can drop 30 points on Amare and grab 15 rebounds while they're at it. Sure, they'll get blocked once or twice, and may even commit a turnover or two due to Amare's steals, but I'll take 30 and 15 over a steal and a block.

Stoudemire is one of the worst defenders I have ever seen.
I am not saying that Hedo is a defensive juggernaut, but he is competent. He is not a major defensive liability. Amare and Nash are major defensive liabilities.

Ridiculous. The whole "Amare is a horrendous defender" position is just flat out wrong. Is Amare a great defender, or does he live up to his enormous defensive potential? Of course not. That being said, he's at worst an average defender.

I can't believe that you seriously are making the argument that Hedo isn't a defensive liability. Have you watched any games this year? I'm not even joking. Offensive players, from guards to forwards to centers see him and it's like sharks with chum. He's far too slow to keep up with SF's or guards, and he gets steamrolled by PF's, who score and rebound on him with ease.

I am going to assume this is an exaggeration, there are enough example of players worse than Amare on this team. Warrick and Hedo easily comes to mind.
Amare is an average defender, heck he leaves and our defense is worse than it has been in a long time.

A bit of an exaggeration, for sure, but the point remains valid.
Suns' defense being worse than last year has nothing to do with Amare leaving in and of itself. It has to do with the fact that there is no legitimate PF, and no legitimate C.

Amare is NOT an average defender, no matter how much coolaid you drink. He is a bad defender- we've watched years and years of his crappy defense.

Except for perhaps guarding Point Guards, some muscles are required to set up good defense in the NBA.

Have you looked at Hedo's arms? Considering he's 6'10", he has no muscles in those arms. That's his problem. He has never developed himself to match his size. It was the same with Alvan Adams. 'Skinniest arms on the court at 6'9".

It may work in college ball. But never ever in the pro's. He's a long Shooting Guard, playing Small Forward and, gasp, Power Forward in the NBA. He is still playing Power Forward during the 3rd and 4th quarters.

That is why mediocre Power Forwards put up All Star stats against us. And why he plays 23 feet from the basket. We have a three Guard alignment every time he steps on the court.

Yet you ignore that Amare played as a center a lot on this team, and last year when Lopez was moved to the starting line-up he improved a little defensively.
A lot of fans have always whined how Nash and Amare are bad defenders, I dont know what stats you are going by, but imo both are average.

Yea let's add another SF in Carmello who can't play any D. I've seen many Carmello games, and I'm not impressed with his game. I rather have Iguodala, he an guard people even though he isn't a great scorer.
