We should only start Hall when the season is officially lost...

:yeahthat: Starting Hall is acknowledging that there is no chance for the post-season. At two games in, I believe in playing for this season, not next.

Just a reminder, we play in the NFC West. I'm not sure that our starting QB will determine whether we have a chance for postseason play. I don't know if Hall is really an NFL QB but I don't think there's much mystery about DA. I think our chances of winning the division are about the same no matter who's behind center. We're going to win between 6 and 8 games regardless and in this division that may well be good enough.

I'm not going to scream and yell for Hall to start but I do believe Whiz intends to start him fairly soon. After watching DA, I'm not going to dread the day it happens either. If the 49ers play to their talent level, they will win the division with something like a 9 - 7 record and if not we'll be right there with them at the top of the West.

I was disagreeing until you said the magic words. He's going to make rookie mistakes, but so is Scud Anderson. The fact that Anderson is making mistakes that former H.S. players make as college freshman is startling. I'd love it if he were making NFL rookie mistakes. But throwing the ball at the calves of a RB? At least if you aim for the shins (in front of him) he might gain a yard when he bends down to make the grab. Instead he turns around, catches it if he's lucky, turns around and is creamed. That's just not acceptable in the NFL, rookie or not. It's not acceptable for a college freshman.

Maybe I was watching a different game... but wasn't Hall like 0-2 with an INT in garbage time. Clearly he is not ready to be the starter. We are stuck with Anderson this year for as long as he can remain healthy.

1-2 with an INT.

Scud clearly isn't ready to be the starter either, and he's been in the league for a few years.

Yeah, lets destroy the confidence of a 24 year old by throwing into games against the Chargers and Saints supported by 2 rookie wide receivers, a poor offensive line, and a terrible defense. This is a great way to develop a young player. This might be the worst idea that I have heard yet. No, not might be, it just is the worst idea.

Not to mention, that the message to the whole team is we've largely given up on defending our crown.

Why? Did the Colts wait for that with Peyton Manning? The Cowboys with Troy Aikman?

They went 3-13 and 1-15 but look at the rest of their careers.

Wasn't that message already sent when they cut Leinart and announced DA as the starter a few weeks ago? :)

I think it was sent when the Cards decided to blow up the first offensive line they'd had in 20 years that had actually played more than 1 season together.

Interesting aside, I was watching NFLN this afternoon and the gal moderating Total Access (I think that was the show) made a point of saying that Anderson got benched for Max Hall last week in Atlanta. No mention, of course, that it was at the end of the game and it was for all of two plays. They then went on to talk about Vince Young getting benched which was something of a totally different set of circumstances. Gotta love the media and their selective reporting. :D

IQ test question: Troy Aikman, Peyton Manning, Max Hall

Which of the three doesn't fit?

:( I think we should wait and see after this Sunday! If it is another "CLUNKER", day, hey the season in shot anyway. Give the "ROOKIE" the reps and wait till next year. Hate to say it, the DAMM, whiners are probably the best team in our division. Gosh, I hope I am wrong. GO DA!

For everybody that thinks starting MAx Hall is so outrageous.....By naming him the back up, he is forever ONE play away from being the starter.

I would rather see him start a game with at least a week of practice with the starters.

This team will not score more than 17 offensive points in any game this season. By that I mean not counting defensive or special team points.

Tie that with this defense won't hold anybody UNDER 17 points and it paints a bleak picture.

I just hate the thought of watching a totally inept offense for the next 14 weeks only to accept reality before starting Hall.

If you remember the Imus radio show, his sidekick Bernard McGuirk had a funny bit occasionally that he would do in an Irish Catholic accent and it was titled " which doesn't belong and why".

This reminded me of that
