For once the cash considerations were very justified.

Carter has a partially guaranteed deal for the 2011/12 season. If he is not waived before June 30, 2011, Carter's salary of $18.3 million becomes fully guaranteed; if he is waived by the above date, he pockets $4 million and becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1. The $4 million figure will stay on his team's cap for that year.

I assure you I'm not picking nits here; these distinctions are important. If the Magic elect to trade Carter, they'll likely have to include $3 million in cash--the maximum allowable amoun--in the bargain to cover most of Carter's guarantee, which is a fact to consider when trying to evaluate potential trade partners. Which ones wouldn't mind having to cover $1 million of Carter's guarantee? Would they demand another asset, such as a future draft pick, as further compensation?

Does Sarver ever make a deal that doesn't include "Cash Considerations!"

I liked J-Rich so it's kinda a bummer to lose him. I haven't watch much of the Magic, how is VC playing this year? I know we'll buy him out after this season but still.

Definitely glad we dumped Hedo, couldn't stand watching him play.

VC scores about 4ppg less per game than JRich, about equal on the boards and better at assists. You also have to figure in what kind of improvement Carter might have playing with Nash. Many are saying since he couldn't play well with Jameer Nelson, he's going to be awful with Nash. But he had his best years in Jersey playing with Jason Kidd, so we'll see.

So what's the thinking here?

Is this about improving the team?
Saving money?
Getting rid of Hedo?

Gortat's a big body but does nothing to address the void at PF. He's definitely going to need a new number.

Could the Suns trade that Olando #1 for Randolph?

In another post I noted the Suns will now have two first round draft picks for 2011 and could package one or both and a player like Warrick for the right player. Anyway, the Suns now have plenty of options going forward. Moving Hedo is a major plus.

This is a terrific trade, I am dumb founded that people here are so tepid about it.

This gives the Suns flexibility going forward, thats important! They moved Hedo's horrible contract and didn't bring back any bad contracts (well VCs, but its expiring).

VC can to some degree replace what J-Rich did. Gortat is an excellent rebounded and defender (he would've been ideal next to Amare, too bad we don't have him anymore!), getting a 1st rounder is always good, even if its late, and Pietrus is an excellent wing defender and 3 point shooter.

I really don't see a down side to this trade at all for Phoenix. They lose Richardson, but who cares? Even if they did resign him, is Jason Richardson, he of 0 career All Star appearances, really who you want to build your team around? He's a nice 3rd or 4th guy on a really good team, but not the kind of guy to pin the Suns future on, and now they got something for him.

Gortat can play a little 4, and obviously so can Frye. So depending on how Gentry wants to work it, he's got a lot of options but I'd imagine the new 2 deep is:

C Gortat/Lopez
PF Warrick/Frye
SF Hill/Pietrus
SG Carter/Dudley
PG Nash/Dragic

Whether this trade is it for now or just setting the Suns up for some more moves, its a good move.

Atleast get Rashard Lewis WTF

You really want Rashards contract?

Whoa!

Our future suddenly looks brighter and we are in a position to do other trades immediately!

What a fantastic trade! Not necessarily from a player perspective, although we got Carter, Pietrus, and Gortat - all good players to have on the roster. But, we open ourselves up for trading, say, Lopez/Childress/Dudley for a legit 4 AND we get a first out of the deal.

Damn!

I must say that this is one solid move that greatly clears the murkiness we were wading through as a franchise!

Nash-Carter-Hill-Trade-Gortat

Dragic-Pietrus-Warrick-Frye-Barron

I'll take that 10-man rotation any day....

Exactly! This trade alone makes up for some of the MANY missteps this franchise has made over the last few years.

And you are also right that we would look good without trading Lopez/Dudley/Childress....

This is the most excited I've been for a Suns trade since the Diaw trade. The Suns are now a player for most any available player in the NBA. The Suns have two first round draft picks to use in a trade and Vince Carter's 18M dollar expiring contract. The Suns have a great hand to play and reasonable player contracts to move.

There's a waiting period for flipping VCs deal I believe. Unless this deal ends up being a 3 team deal or something like that and VC is just going through Phx on his way to somewhere else.

Irregardless the Suns now have two first round draft picks to trade if desired and a 18M dollar expiring contract (less 4 M) coming off their books next year. The Suns only major loss was Richardson who they were unlikely to keep. The way I look at it, the Suns get a legitimate big man to fill a need and have the chips now or next year to get another significant big man.

I thought Pietrus had a good career ahead of him when he came into the league, but he keeps getting traded so not sure about him. We have to watch and see how he works out.

Do you all remember that Gortat was drafted by the suns in the 2nd round and then sold for $750.000.?

New York is looking for a first round pick to help their trade for Anthony, I forget the player they are trying to move for the pick? young power forward, Anyone?

I give up. Who or what is BIM? It has a lot of meanings in slang or the Urban Dictionary.
