Does that not lead to the suggestion that we trade our top pick for a young, experienced Power Forward who would fit the rest of our roster?

As well as, of course, a separate trade of players for the same description in a Point Guard.

Booker is in his 3rd season. Ayton and Bridges are rookies. We need some mid-career players at the Point and Power Forward starting/finishing positions.

That would be a great foundation for moving up next season!

Yeah. I'm of the mind that...

If we win the #1 pick, take Zion. Use free agency and/or trade capital to bring in the best pg possible.

If we win the #2 pick or Morant falls to us, take him. Use free agency and/or trade capital to bring in the best pf possible and also work to add a solid veteran at pg.

If Zion and Morant are off the board, trade that pick for a good, established point guard and/or power forward. Use other assets to fill the other spot.

Have the Suns hired scouts yet or are they just watching the same YouTube video we did?

I believe they only fired their Director of Scouting and their top International scout and replaced those spots by promoting from within. And they added Ronnie Price. So, size wise, I think they have close to the same numbers although their approach has reportedly changed. They will no longer be focusing on a wide range of players but specifically targeting the type of player we want to add.

You and every one of us probably.

It just hit me the player of whom Morant reminds me most.

He is a taller Sebastian Telfair.

There may be a few teams who will pass on Morant, but before they do, I'm guessing Atlanta and Cleveland entertain offers from teams to move into their slot, and that's the Suns competition for Morant if we're picking later.

We have a 72.6% chance of not picking in the first two spots. If those odds play out, we might need to look at what sweetens the deal with our own pick rather than waiting for Morant to fall (if he's the target). I wouldn't be surprised at all to see #2 and #3 change hands this year.

Our chances will improve, if we keep on sucking eggs like this. 14 games and counting.....

I have seen four full Murray State games and a whole host of highlights.
and yet the only thing you came away with was pulling up the first hyped disappoiting undersized street cred type of PG straight out of HS you could think of to demean him, sad.

Sadly, they won't. Even if they are dead last, they still only have about 28% chance at one of the first picks.
Morant is not a lock to go top 2.

Barrett is the bigger talent probably and some of the freshman could easily be taken ahead of Morant too. Either way we should be able to trade up for Morant even if we fall to 6th which is the worst case scenario as of right now.

I was responding to one string of posts directly. I could be wrong, but I think the conversation was about the Suns getting one of the top two picks. As for whop end up where, I have no idea. I honestly haven't watched much college ball this year. That said, we better not be wasting assets to draft another 19 year old and suffer through another season of no NBA-level point guard play.

Please enlighten me how a 6'3 athletic do it all PG is in any shape or form similiar to Sebastian Telfair.

Like Morant, Telfair was supremely athletic, could jump out of the gym, excelled at slashing and getting to the basket and could score in a number of creative ways despite having a suspect outside shot.

Like Morant, Telfair was capable of making some beautiful passes, often threading the needle to do so. Like Morant in college, Telfair could put up gawdy assist numbers in high school.

Like Morant, Telfair had more of a playground style of play, was flashy but often sloppy in execution and suspect in decision making and was therefore prone to turnovers.

Like Morant, Telfair had the athletic ability to defend well but often had defensive lapses due to lack of discipline.

Like Morant, Telfair was considered the next big thing but could never lead his team to any kind of success.

I earlier drew the comparison between Morant and Telfair's cousin, Stephon Marbury...but Marbury was less athletic than both Telfair and Morant, Marbury had a better outside shot, and Marbury led his Georgia Tech squad to the Sweet Sixteen.

I listed to the latest Jones interview, and I am 99% confident that unless they pick at #1, Suns are trading the pick.

"Age and inexperience is the root of the problem, according to Jones. He said the team will take a targeted approach in its roster maneuvers this offseason...

...I can’t give you a definitive timeline, but I can tell you that our focus right now going forward in free agency and the draft is to add players who will allow us to play and not rely on the production of young guys,” he said, before repeating it.

“We have to add guys that will allow us to play and allow us to win games without relying on the production of extremely young players.”

The Suns want to challenge their young players and don’t want them to use their youth as an excuse. But the reality, Jones said, is that the team must reassemble itself around players who aren’t projects.

“It doesn’t work,” he said. “It hasn’t worked in the past and I doubt it’ll work in the future.”

Genius, we are going to add guys that allow us to play and win games. That sounds great! Wonder why no one else thought of this.

Sorry......to me targeted approach means, we will let you know when we figure out what we are doing.

It means something quite different to me. It means he disagrees with Ryan's approach to building a team through the draft and he will likely explore trade opportunities for one or more of the younger players. And he will almost definitely avoid adding more projects this season and other than Zion, that probably means first round rookies in general. I could see him drafting a player in the second round with the G League in mind for him though.

I agree with him and I don't. I would have preferred to try and build it this way instead of tanking. But once we cleared the roster of real talent and went the way of the draft, I think it's a mistake to abandon it now. It will make us minimally competitive much sooner than waiting on the kiddies but I don't like our long term chances if we start giving up on the Jackson's and such on the roster today. But if he's just talking about finding a real point guard and power forward by using FA and moving off of Melton, Okobo and our non-Zion first round pick, well, I'd consider that a good thing.

"Free agency will be key..."

Between free agency, the draft, and the trade market, he wants to add 4-5 NBA rotation players to fit with Devin and Deandre.

He better not give up on Jackson or Bridges in the process. Anyone else I can live with being traded.

Now how the hell are they going to add 4-5 nba players?!? That sounds like they’re scrapping the “timeline” and likely going to ship out some youth. So let me get this straight:

Went into rebuild when shipped out Nash,

Had some unexpected fortune with Bledsoe/dragic so scrapped rebuild and went for win now,

That went belly up so back to rebuild with tank and the timeline,

That (shockingly, I know), didn’t result in immediate wins, so scrapping that to get 4-5 nba players to win now.

This has blindly stumbling around with no plan emblazoned all over it.

4-5 nba players will necessitate lots of money and likely assets. In other words likely kiss goodbye some of the young prospects we lost so many games to get.

I see a josh Childress, Hakeem Warwick, hedu turkoglu offseason looming.

Regardless of the past, I like what Jones is saying. We are definitely overloaded with too many young players.

In going forward, we need to add mid-career experience. Especially at Point Guard. But even, if we don't luck out and get Zion, with Power Forward as well.

I usually don't like overreacting. But when something is unbalanced, you have to unbalance it in the opposite direction until it is level.

I am impressed that Jones has gone public with that approach. Maybe, just maybe, he talked Sarver into letting him proceed? And spend more money than on more less expensive draftees.

In his defense, what the Suns say they're going to do and what they actually end up doing rarely match. So this probably just means we're going to add 4-5 more rookies.
