Yesterday on Total Access, Jamie Dukes was flat out wrong in his assesment of what Leinart can, (or will), do as QB of the Cardinals. Dukes claims that we will be relegated to small ball, (short passes), with Leinart at the helm. He says that the deep threat of Warner is impossible to reproduce with Leinart at QB.

Dukes needs to re-visit the stats from last year to see that we had NO deep game last year. (It turns out that Kurt was hurting, and had trouble going deep). We had VERY FEW pass completiions over 20 yards.

The truth is, Leinart will give us a better chance to have a deep passing game this year than Warner did last year. While not having a cannon for an arm, Leinart CAN make ALL the throws needed by an NFL QB. The only real question in my mind about his ability is whether or not he is the leader that we need at the QB position. I would tend to believe that he has done all that he needed to do while learning from Kurt, and is now ready to be that man. I think that Whiz feels this way too, and the players seem to feel it too.

I know that Matt is physically tougher than he was when he came to the Birds. I truly believe that he is mentally tougher also. I believe that he will show that he IS our QBOF.

Going back another season, Leinart was airing it out in Tampa before the Super Bowl. Just throwing warm-up passes but it was a sign he's not going to just throw dump-off routes, etc. if/when he plays.

Then there's the long TD in the New England game when Warner couldn't get anything done all day.

there is going to be only one issue with matt and i believe that watching kurt for the years he has at this point he has a heckuva chance to overcome that....how quickly can he read a defense and process what he needs to do to go down the field...that is it ....it's a big it...he has the rest.

The biggest difference between Warner & Leinart is accuracy. But the VAST majority of QB's in the NFL would lose that battle with Warner anyways. Leinart's success this year will be predicated on where his confidence level is. What makes Whiz a great coach, is that he puts his players in a position to succeed. I fully expect that our passing game will revolve around Leinart's strengths, not Warner's. That being said, Leinart will have a very solid season & make his detractors look silly. Our overall success as a team will revolve around our D, not Leinart.

This is my primary concern about Leinart as well.

Solid post all around

Leinart will not be as accurate as Warner, but I think he'll be just fine in that department. Some of his strengths in college were his accuracy and the ability to make all of the throws up to 40 yards. Analysts like Dukes are looking on the surface and not the big picture.

What really makes me laugh are those who say Anderson is a better fit. This is a guy whose accuracy has come into question his entire career and has been getting progressively worse. Even during his pro bowl season, he still only threw for 57%. Last season, it was 44% which included an "impressive" 2 for 17 game against the Bills. I sit in Sec. 414 Row 17 and even up there, Im afraid of getting hit by an arrant Derek Anderson thrown ball.

Take it FWIW, but it sounds to me that Leinart has looked good in OTAs. This is not necessarily an antecedent for a pro bowl season, but at least he's on the right track

Best quote from that segment.

Rich Eisen "Well they didn't throw that jump ball as much last year either"

Dukes "Yea and we saw where THAT got them (sarcastically)"

Rich "Um, well, their 2nd straight division championship and advancing to the divisional round???"

Dukes" I was kidding....I....was kidding..."

I bet you guys didnt have that concern as he played as a rook or his early part of his 2nd year until he got hurt. My concerns...can he stay healthy? I think this kid will make someone a very good QB, us or another team. I just hope he survives the season & gets his fair shot!!!

I will laugh when the first play from scrimmage in the regular season is some sort of a bomb downfield to Fitz that no one is expecting.

Funny sports analysts always seem to forget this.

They forget it as much, as they forget the Patriots haven't won a playoff game in 2 years.

Dukes reveals his ignorance when he only brings up Fitz and Breaston as Leinart's receiving options.

In doing so, he, Charles Davis and Rich Eisen ignore Doucet (expected by some to have a breakout year) along with a bevy of lesser-known backups (O Jones, Gant, Roberts and perhaps other guys like Williams and Mouhgey) who look as though they all can step in without embarrassing anybody.

They also ignored Leinart's performance vs. the Texans (he had them beat/ the defense gave it back).

I'm guessing that, in Leinart, we lose a little of Warner's ability to "know without looking" where his open receiver has to be. But we also gain significant mobility and escapability.

If Matt can play within himself, he will be better than fine. I also like the fact that he is more mobile and that plays can be put in using that which Kurt could not do. Looking at Matt you can see that the kid has grown up. We know he can play the game, we saw that his first year. If he can stay healthy we can go after our next division championship.

Why not Conference Championship at Least? Atop 12 defence will solidify it.I think we can put the points up.More aggressive late game defense too.

I agree with you. Joe Montana didn't have a big arm but just look on how many TD's he had as a QB for the 49er's. Big arms do not mean long yardage TD's. Oh yes who was that Strong armed QB from Washington State.

No kidding. Does big lettering give a post more significance?

No bigger letters mean that someone should try to pay more attention to what others have said or otherwise should have said. My font is my way of expressing myself. If you cannot handle it then that is your problem not mine.
Live with it.
