NY Post

New York Post -
Jason Kidd was "on strike," last night several team sources claimed, and he essentially called in sick, perhaps in an effort to force a trade from the Nets or get a contract extension.

According to the New York Post, Coach Lawrence Frank said Kidd phoned him complaining of a migraine yesterday at about 2 p.m. Kidd never showed for last night's 100-93 defeat against the Knicks, also short-handed, in the Meadowlands.

Maybe it was the contract extension he sought and did not receive. Maybe it is the general state of the team. Maybe it is a desire for a trade. Whatever the reason, whatever the cause, Kidd chose a game against the division rival Knicks to state his case. And the Nets certainly proved how much they need Kidd, losing to the 6-11 Knicks who were without Eddy Curry and Stephon Marbury.

"He's on strike," on team source said.

Kidd's teammates were tight-lipped, though one claimed, "I can't picture Jason doing that. I would be disappointed if he did."

But another source said the Nets were planning on - if not already - talking to Dallas, the Lakers and perhaps Cleveland about a trade. Kidd nearly was traded to the Lakers last February.

Kidd played 30 minutes Tuesday in Cleveland and chatting with LeBron James afterward.

Wow, big balls JKidd aint playin around.

Kidd + LeBron would be ridiculous. Will never happen. If LA makes a trade and unloads some of their youthful bench they would be solid contenders

Farmar, Brown, Radman, Crittenton, 1st round pick?

Bynum, Brown, Radman, 1st round for Kidd/Sean Williams?

Kidd, Bryant, Odom, Williams, Turiaf

aren't contenders either.

The above lineup isnt much better than..

Kidd, Carter, Jefferson, Williams, Krstic (Healthy)

If Bynum stays, Radman comes off the bench and Turiaf to back up Williams... yes I see them as being deep. Also Kidd will need to adapt to the triangle... I am yet to see a running, play making, uptempo point guard who can't shoot well consistently play successfully in the triangle.

If anything, Kidd, Bryant and Odom... will all need to be controlling the ball at some point, too many with Kidd..

What Kidd does bring that benefits LA a lot is his defense, although he has regressed from that position, he's just "good" these days at the pg.

The Lakers need a good shooting, good defending point guard. A Jason Terry/Kirk Hinrich type.

According to Rod Thorn, Kidd was not on strike.
Jason Kidd was sick -- not "on strike" -- when the eight-time All Star missed New Jersey's game against the New York Knicks, Nets president Rod Thorn said Thursday.
Thorn said did not believe reports in newspapers and on the Internet that Kidd boycotted the game to force the team to give him a new contract or trade him.
"He was sick," Thorn said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press, adding that he spoke with Kidd on Thursday morning. "He was very hurt about some of things in some of the articles and he plans to address it."
Kidd scheduled a news conference later Thursday at team headquarters.
Thorn said Kidd sent a text message to trainer Tim Walsh around noon Wednesday, informing him that he had a migraine and would get back to him later in the day.
At around 4 p.m. -- 31/2 hours before Wednesday's game the Knicks won 100-93 -- Kidd sent a second text message telling Walsh he would not be able to play, Thorn said.
"I think that raised some suspicions," Thorn said, adding that he doubted Kidd would desert his teammates to make a personal point. "He has played with so many injuries over the course of his time with us that some people think he's an automaton."
The New York Post quoted a team source as saying: "He's on strike."

IMHO it seems more like that kidd wants a contract extension, rather than be traded.
Kidd directly shot down the story on WFAN-AM radio in New York on Thursday afternoon saying "I did have a migraine."
The eight-time All Star did say his agent and the Nets have been talking about a possible contract extension, but that would never play into him missing any action.

"I would never disrespect the game by not playing because the game has been so good to me," Kidd told the radio station.

If Kidd goes to Dallas or the Lakers watch out. I think adding him to Dallas would make that team ridiculous. Out of all the elite teams last year, Dallas had the fewest points in the paint. Jason Kidd changes all that. As good as Dallas can be at the jump shot, if they get points in the paint because of Kidd....wow.

Adding him to the Lakers wouldn't put that team over the top IMO but they would be much improved.

It would be too hilarious if Starbury was traded for Kidd again. :D

Besides, neither player would have to move.

I haven't heard of JKidd being this upset since the "fries incident".

I hope he goes to Cleveland. Don't know scrubs NJ would want from that club though.
other than booby gibson, do they even have any players with any market value to a team like NJ (other than LBJ)?

btw: my 1000th post. thanks asfn, it's been a great first 1000!

But buyouts still stay on the roster for salary cap/tax reasons so its near impossible to rebuild with any momentum. Besides, if Kidd is looking for an extension, why would he accept half his dues and risk getting lowballed elsewhere? Francis and juwan howard got bought out this year and are near vet mins for their current salary. No GM is going to give a bought out player a fat contract.

IMO there are three players that were or might be available that can help an already good team win a Championship this year. They are Garnett (joining Pierce and Allen), Kobe and Jason Kidd. Since Garnett already has a home I'm just worried where the other two players might land. I hope they do not land with a contender.

On a slightly different thought, it seemed the Suns played very well the other night when Marion got in foul trouble. Diaw suddenly seemed like he could be a starter besides Amare. This made me think twice about the trading Marion idea that has been floating out there for quite some time. Just a thought.

well I would love for kidd to come back to the mavs. he is one of the best overall PG's I've ever watched.....maybe the best when you put the whole package together. nash is definitely the best offensive PG I've ever seen..........it's not irony that his teams have led the league in offense for almost a decade now.
the mavs have a lot of firepower to get it done obviously. but who's the headliner? jason terry is one of their best clutch shooters, but is the one player I won't mind seeing leave for kidd. I like harris' upside. he is inconsistent, but he is very talented with some upside. I doubt the nets would give kidd up without gaining harris though. Howard is untouchable IMO.

The problem is that the Mavs don't really have assets to acquire Kidd.

I agree that they won't give Howard (besides next to Jefferson and Carter the last thing the Nets would need is another SF/SG), Harris is a solid prospect but not a distributor and Dallas doesn't have any big expiring or short contracts.

you are right about the expiring contracts as far as I know..........and that could be a blow to the mavs if they are interested in kidd. the nets would definitely want a PG to replace kidd........the mavs have two.........three if you include barea. I know they aren't traditional set up PG's when it comes to assists. I think harris will improve in that regard as time goes on. but if the nets are going to indeed trade kidd.........who out there is going to give them a great PG that can replace kidd's set up qualities? I can only think of a few. steve nash, chris paul, d. williams, billups.........and none of those guys are leaving their teams for an older j. kidd at this point.
therefore, if kidd is going, there is no reason why the mavs and nets couldn't have some serious talks based on the diverse personnel that the mavs have on their roster. I think if the mavs view kidd as a must have........they definitely have the ability to at least get into some very serious discussions.......and should be able to outbid most teams.

I think that the Lakers have much more desireable trade assets for the Nets if they really would like to make the deal.

They have a big expiring contract in Brown, a very young, promising PG in Farmar, a young C in Bynum (although they want to keep him) and even a servicable player with big contract who at least fills a need in Odom.

I agree that the lakers have some play there. bynum is young and upcoming. Since big men are scarce......he could be very marketable.
brown has dampier hands(maybe worse) and lacks consistent low post ability. but the expiring contract might be lucrative.
young promising in farmar......the mavs have jj barea too. both of those guys were D league favorites.
