If available, should Cards use their R3 pick to select this possible all pro or HofF LB. Personally, this is the kind of stud the Steelers would grab in front of us and hit a home run with.

I abstain from voting because I'm on the fence.

I clearly see that he can be a perennial All Pro at ILB, but his availability and injury concern are legitimate question marks.

This is why GMs can't sleep. He's too good to pass if your medical staff clears him to play for sure in 2017. The Cards won't get many shots at a player of this caliber if they keep winning and they will keep winning. He can set the tone for a defense for 4+ years. I'm big on taking the Super Bowl shot and going all in, but this player is the exception.

I would take this guy in the first round let alone the third. Right now he is one of my top few players that I want us to take. Its all on the medical staff. What they say goes. If they say he will make a full recovery I take him even if he doesn't play a down in 2016.

Maybe the best thing I have read from you Harry and that's saying a lot. Love the confidence we are all feeling with BASK.

If it's a go with our medical staff I have no problem with picking him 29 (even if he misses all of 2016). He's going to be the dark horse in this draft.

I'm not selecting a player in the first round who has a better chance of retiring in a year than being a perennial pro bowler.

Also, it's worth mentioning that Smith's insurance policy is worth $5 million non-taxable, which would make a decision for him to retire easy if he doesn't get drafted in the first round and the doctors don't give him a vote of confidence of performing well at the next level.

I'm reminded of the Patriots rookie RB, forget his name, who had an awesome rookie season, tore up his knee playing beach football or something like that, and boom, career over. Nerve damage in his knee was the problem....

Jaylon Smith's draft stock is completely fluid right now. Depends on how April 14/15 medical re-checks go, how team visits go @saliopp

Says who? Not 1 authority has said "there is permanent damage". Zero. Its 100% speculation.

Just like it was speculation on La'el Collins.

Cops said "He. is. not. a. suspect." and yet all 32 teams speculated he was.

1 year later, hes still not a suspect.

Speculation = fear.

No room for fear on this team

Robert Edwards. That was terrible! He was drafted to replace Curtis Martin and had 12? TD's and then had a full dislocation of his knee in a rookie beach all-star game as a part of Pro Bowl weekend. I would compare Edwards more closely to Lattimore. They debated amputation. He did actually make it back to the NFL, but obviously never the same.

After reading this article I had forgotten that he went to Georgia. Same school as Nick Chubb, who also had one of the most gruesome knee injuries I've ever seen!

Saw Smith on the NFL Network. 24 reps at 225 and he reported that he's leg pressing 600 lb and squatting 400. It's a nerve issue and like CP a few years back, one doesn't know when it will start firing again.

I think there's a BIG difference. 1 involves ligaments the other didn't. Just because he's lifting heavily doesn't he's regaining feeling. Its a far worse injury that has probably ended many sporting careers. Let's hope the best for the kid

That's not a comparable situation. Collins dropped because of that situation plus character issues. Teams wanted to draft him but his agent told him not to because he wanted to choose his team. Smith is a significant injury

It's been known that there is nerve damage involved, which creates enough doubt about his football career. Plus, as I said, if he's not drafted in the first round (which is the likely scenario), and doctors don't give him a vote of confidence for his future, his $5,000,000 non-taxable insurance policy would be more valuable than a 2nd round or later contract.

That's enough doubt to not only not draft him in the first round, but to take him completely off their draft board.

How does one get a insurance policy like that? Did his family insure him years ago for this type of thing?
