He probably should have had 7-8 free throws though.
I agree. Book as we all know doesn’t get a great whistle or a very inconsistent one at least. And like someone said, he does get a hot head and try to force things. Hopefully CP3 continues to rub off on him. Chris in crunch I feel like always makes the right decision.

Monty likes a four man bench but dang, Smith should have been part of it tonight.

Booker should think about modeling his game after Paul, especially shot selection.

Suns are mighty fortunate to win tonight. I'd hate to play the Jazz in Utah if they had lost.

Few thoughts:

This was the worst effort I’ve seen outta this squad. It showed. Tonight was an embarrassment.

Interesting to read this thread after watching the game. I thought the officiating was pretty good. As usual the more aggressive team got the calls. That’s rarely us.

4 pts from Bridges. Christ that’s unacceptable. I don’t know what this team has to do to get what they need outta him. Two starters and Payne out abd Bridges does squat offensively. Pathetic.

Lots of turnovers from Paul. But man he was cooking later in the game. I didn’t understand going away from his high pick and roll late in the game to let Booker jack up one miss after another. That wasn’t smart basketball.

In a game full of scrubs Shamet was the scrubbiest scrub of scrubdom. My god does he just suck.

Book getting 33 on 35 shots is awful. Particularly considering his hot start.

Tonight may be elfrid’s best game this year. Played within himself.

Cam Johnson played very well offensively, but poor game defensively.

Mcgee has been pretty foul prone lately. But he and biyombo giving us what we need combining for 22 pts and 22 rebs tonight.

Glad we won. Hard to believe it was in question with 3 minutes left.

Devin Booker needs to give the 3-pointers a break for awhile (3-13) for the good of the team.

Yes they were aggressive and for the most part they were getting the correct calls. But fouls are fouls -- the other team is aggressive, but if we are fouled, they're still fouled, regardless of what it's like down on the other side of the floor.

Agreed with everything except for this. I thought he played quite well defensively (though obviously not up to Jae's level), including 3 steals. I don't remember every play but I thought he was more than solid on the defensive end.

Extending Shamet was a huge L by Jones/Monty.
Just made no sense to me, especially knowing that they eventually should be shelling out big contracts to Ayton and Cam Johnson.

CP3, Cam Payne, Cam Johnston, Crowder, McGee, Biyombo VS Shamet, Payton
Seems like a pretty damn good track record if ya ask me.

Yes I want to dump Shamet and Payton and maybe Nader and Stix.
But I'm all in with whatever JJ/Monte decide.

Yeah he’s down to 38.5% from 3. He was around 42% a few weeks back. He was 11/22 tonight from 2 tonight. Kevin O’Conner from the Ringer said he should take more threes from an analytics perspective. I personally think if he gets 20-25 shots (Once DA gets back) he needs to take 6-8 threes a game unless he’s really feeling it from deep. Next year, after a longer offseason he can work on the 3 on higher volume. Focus on getting to the midrange and getting more Ft attempts.

Shamet has sucked pretty bad but his contract isnt that bad. It doesn’t really restrict us from doing anything. We were going to be over the salary cap anyways so it’s not like we could of used the money anywhere else. The contract itself can also be used in future trades, since other than Saric we don’t really have any decent money contracts that we would want to trade. Since he hasn’t played up to expectations it is definitely an L for Jones, but it is far from a huge one.

Devin has developed a good mid-range shot and he has the ability to get to the basket. I see no reason he should not cut back on the amount of threes he takes until they consistently start dropping. Actually he has successfully done this in the past.

It's kind of like if your car gets stuck in a rut, don't keep pushing your foot on the accelerator. The only thing that happens is digging a deeper hole.

He also takes a lot more shots when DA doesn’t play if you look at his splits. He’s the second leading scorer behind KD in the first quarter. I love Book but I would like to have better shot distribution. I know it’s easy to rag on Mikal but he took 8 shots last night in 35 minutes. Payton took 6 in 12 minutes. Mikal gets his points in the flow of the offense but I’d like to see us run more stuff for him since so much attention is paid to our backcourt. But it’s on Mikal to take advantage of his opportunities.

With Ayton and Crowder out Biyombo has been carrying the Suns bench.

Last night Biyombo had 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Payton (6) and Shamet (3) were the only other scorers off the bench.

The Jazz bench produced 33 points.

Mikal is best when he is cutting to the basket off the break or in the flow of the game. When he is not hitting that corner three it impacts his ability to put up bigger numbers. The Suns could look for him more when he is cutting to the basket in the half-court.
