Jimmer, biyombo, faried. I really like those players. Jimmer is the real deal. Teams that pass on him will regret it.
Getting rid of The Dragon and #24 for Waterbug Brooks don't look too hot right now... if they resign him I'll be surprised.
True, and if they draft a PG at #13 they will certainly not re-sign him.If they don't resign him, then this was another way to not pay a first round pick.

That's ridiculous. The 24th pick last year was Damion James. He made $1.16 mil this year and is slotted for 1.24 million next year. First round salaries are only guaranteed for 2 years. After that the team can decide not to pick up their option much like the Suns did with Earl Clark. Compared to our free agent/trade acquisitions last offseason, a first round pick is down-right pocket change.

I let history speak for itself. It will be hard to see an unsigned Brooks as anything other than "cost savings" considering Dragic's Salary + the Pick.

That pick could have been very useful too. Imagine a draft where we get Fredette or perhaps Burks at #13 and then grab Faried or even Biyombo who may fall this far at #23. Alas, the Suns once again have proven they don't value draft picks a whole lot.
They also could have packaged both picks to move up. Typical stupid front office dealings by the Suns.
As for using our late 1st rounder to move into a better slot, just how far up the drafting order do you think we could move by including Orlando's pick? I'm not sure that the 23rd pick added to the 13th pick would even get us inside the top 10. I'd still like to have that 2nd pick available right now but it's hardly a big loss and I can't fault the organization for TRYING to make the team better.

Sometimes a team only has to move up two or three notches to get a player they covet. A second first round pick might get you there.
My major gripe is that the Suns just don't value draft picks. The last good player that they drafted and kept was Amare in 2002.
Without a doubt, this organization made some horrible decisions involving draft picks. I think (perhaps, I hope) they have learned their lesson and that the selling of draft picks is in the past. And I have no problem with the way they used the Orlando pick. They didn't sell it, they used it to try and get a player that they coveted. At the moment, this appears to have been a bad decision but I think it was done for the right reasons.

I'm sorry, the Suns should be graded on results not intent at this late date under the Sarver era. The free dance is over as I view it.

So then, what do you recommend - never take a chance, never try and improve your team?
Keep in mind, at the time of this trade we looked to be capable of making it to the playoffs with a little good fortune. Pivotal to that good fortune was finding a way to keep Nash fresh. Dragic was playing at an incredibly low level and Brooks was just an ankle injury and a few months removed from being a very effective player.
I hated a lot of what this organization has done in recent years but this just wasn't one of the stupid decisions IMO. Letting Amare walk (for nothing) may have been somewhat forced on us but keeping Nash once Amare was gone was all on us. It was stupid, I said so then and I'll keep saying it. The moment Stat was gone we should have paid the price and started moving assets. Now, having failed to do this, putting some effort into making the playoffs is pretty much a no-brainer. They had to try something.
