If the Patriots really plan to move Jimmy G and recover as much as possible, why wait until next offseason when there will be options in free agency at QB for teams and supposedly a great QB draft class. If they don't plan to trade him, are they really ready to pay him the franchise tag salary while still paying Brady?

I think he still may be in play for a trade this offseason. His trade value is highest now. Do the Pats really think a team is going to fork over tons of picks next offseason with so many options in the draft?

This just seems strange to me. How about Stanton and our 1st and 3rd? Pats get their back up and draft picks and we get our QB of the future now to learn BA's system for a year.

they have been trying to trade him because they aint going to pay him. Brady says he can still play a few more years and BB aint gonna mess with him as long as he is winning,,,

if nobody falls for the trade... Jimmy will be a free agent

I think that BB honestly believes that should anything happen to Brady during the season, he can still win the SB with JG. He is that confident/cocky, and why shouldn't he be?

Belichick has been quick to get rid of other guys i.e. Cassel and Mallet for much less than the assumed asking price for Garoppolo, so I think he really values him and wants to hold onto him as long as he possibly can.

I could see the Cards giving it a serious thought. We saw him first hand last year and he killed us. There would be no rookie learning curve. We have history trading with them resently. I wouldn't be surprised if we pulled the trigger and sent Stanton to patriots and JG would be the backup for a year unless he out plays Palmer.

If they tagged him they'd probably have to pay him more than Brady.

I can't see how anyone doesn't think Garoppolo is getting franchised. The same organization literally did this exact thing 10 years ago and moved Matt Cassel to the Chiefs after franchising him.

The Patriots will keep him as insurance for Brady in another run at the Super Bowl. If Brady declines in play or gets hurt (like Peyton Manning did, at a younger age), they have the heir apparent in their building already. There is no good reason for the Patriots to trade him. He is worth more to them now than any 2018 picks would be, and more than most players they could receive in return, as that roster does not have many holes.

Assuming no injury, they will Franchise Garoppolo with no intention of re-signing him. They will have all of the power to pick where he moves and will be able to play teams against each other that don't have top 5 picks or a chance at any of the top rookie QBs, of which there will probably be only one or two.

The Patriots wouldn't trade for Stanton, no way. They can keep JG this season and let him walk for nothing if they want to next off season. The are holding all the leverage. If he walks, then they just draft another quality backup or trade for one. There is no desperation in NE like, it seems, some think there is here in AZ :)

Patriots already have their backup in brisette they kept him off IR and held up a roster spot so he could continue to be in the film room every week. No one wants Stanton.

This was the year to do that deal because Cleveland has the need and had the picks. The rebuffed them multiple times.

I live in Charleston, Illinois. College home of Romo and Jimmy G. I can't see any possible way that Jimmy G. is franchised. He hasn't proven anything. Yes, he proved that he has talent and that he has solid mechanics and the ability to move around but I do not see that chip on his shoulder that he wants it. He had his chance and did well against us...more game management than world beater. He was having an incredible game against Miami but then the injury. There is nothing he could have done but he didn't make it through two games at a crucial time in his career. May have been bad luck but when Brady, Romo, Prescott got their chance there was no turning back. I think Jimmy G will be a solid backup and may be a good starting QB on the right team but I wouldn't give him the bank, in order to, find that out.

No possible way he's getting franchised? Unless you don't know how the tag works, that's ridiculous. See Matt Cassel from ten years ago for exactly what the Patriots will do.
