We arent forced to do anything. Last I checked we still have both Edge and Hightower on the roster. JJ is a career mediocre RB who couldnt crack more than 3rd on the depth chart. Even over a 5th round rookie! He is change of pace scat back who was nothing special in any way shape or form. Lets not be over dramatic about his loss.
I agree...

Listen, I thought we should re-sign JJ, but it's not THAT big of a loss, guys. The only way this kills us is if the FO completely bungles the situation and doesn't address the RB position.

We haven't lost JJ yet. The Cards may match any offer he gets from Denver.

Part of letting a guy go into free agency is getting a real read on his market value. Just like with Warner, the Cards and JJ may differ on his worth and they're going to let the free market decide. If he gets an offer more than the Cards are willing to pay then good for JJ but if its more in line with what the Cards are thinking they may match it.

JJ reminds me of Michael Pittman in the way he runs, in a straight line as fast as he can. The guy has no vision. Even those screen passes he looked good on could have been better if he had some wiggle to him. When he caught those screens he would run in a straight line till someone hit him. With some moves he would have been a great third down back. I think that's why Whiz didn't want him. I think they think they can upgrade.

:yeahthat:

Several posters are going to have brain damage by the end of FA if they are
:bang: over the "loss" of JJ.

If we acquired a RB, his touches would have been limited anyway.

Personally I liked JJ and thought he could develop into a Westbrook like player. It took Westbrook 3 years before he broke out. JJ wasnt going to get that oppurtunity here.

That being said this is hjust another failure in a long line of failures by this team. When you make the playoffs you need to retain as many of you good/decent players as possible. The more turnover you have the less your chance of making it back.

I was always pro Graves but this offseason has been horrific with the negotiations.

Color me glad he is leaving.

1. Without a doubt we were going a different direction concerning RB. JJ's touches would have dwindled next year.
2. We ranked 30th in kickoff returns last year. Nothing to miss there.
3. Brought a few things nice to the table a few times a game. That can be easily replaced by a 4th or lower round rookie.
4. He is so far bring us a comp pick in 2010. The qualifing free agents lost vs. gained is a score of 1-0 in our favor.:D

JJ was mediocre at best.

He has had like 12 good plays since he's been here.

I think that is an overstatement. Westbrook had 1000 yards from scrimmage his second year and 1500 by his third. JJ never broke the 500 yards from scrimmage barrier.

Arrington is a role player. A decent situational player. The Cardinals spent the last two years trying to get as much out of the guy as they could -- and it just isnt a whole bunch. I am also suspicious when the lighbulb "turns on" (if that is what you call showing signs of a pulse by the fourth year.)

You just dont overpay for players like that.

Whatever happens to JJ, I will remember the KO return to help us beat the Cowpukes, and I will always be grateful to him for that

JJ never had any intention of re-signing with the Cards. He never liked living in Arizona; I can't reveal how I know this, but believe me, I'm not just pulling this out of my arse.

Prior to his contract year, JJ played like an "environmentalist". Let's not get too caught up in losing a 3rd down back who has underachieved his entire professional career.

JJ Arrington, thanks for showing up in the last year of your contract and helping us go to the Superbowl. Good luck else where.

AGREED!

JJ Arrington he a decent year, during his contract year. Pretty much he pulled a Calvin Pace this year, and now he has made his money. I think he will do OK in Denver but he will not be an every down back.

I do not think this is a big loss for the Cardinals. I don't agree he is a better pass blocker than Edge or Hightower. Whiz is going to put his stamp on this team. It is wierd, and un-nerving that there will be such a roster turn over but early signs point to this.

Finding a "3rd Down back" and one that will play special teams not only as a kick returner but on kickoff and punt team is probably where the Cardinals are going.

I have no hard feeling over JJ Arrington. I wish him the best.

I've never been a JJ fan. Didn't like it when he was drafted and am not sad to see him go. I don't why people are lamenting his loss. He barely made the team and was even inactive for some games. I don't see how that is a big loss. I'm pretty sure any decent play he made could've been made by any NFL caliber back. He didn't do anything special.

Are we really going off the deep end for Losing JJ Arrington? Really? He will always be remembered by Cards fans as a part of our super bowl run.. but he will always be remembered for crumbling in that Redskins game.. if we can't replace what JJ Arrington brings to the table, we are a sad franchise.

Not a huge loss guys. He is replaceable with a Jason Wright at RB or a Chris Carr at KR(upgrade!)

JJ's talent is not mediocre, but sub par, he isn't a good pass protector, and never will be, and he doesn't hit the hole hard "at all". I think Denver is after him to catch the ball out of the backfield, he won't be starting unless Denver loses 4 or 5 RBs to IR again.

This isn't worth getting excited over imho. But feel free to overreact. hehe

:yeahthat: He turned out to be a nice 3rd down back. Those are fairly easy to come by and a few should be available.

Completely agree,

I doubt many others will agree but if we could add Chris Carr that would be a large impact on this team. He could be our 3rd corner and he would hugely improve ST.

He is from North Carolina, went to school in California. What makes him think he will like Denver? :doi:

On Arrington and FA Period in General

1. I don't like losing any player without knowing who we're getting to replace him. Right now we're down to Hightower, a cranky Edge and some unknown FA fillers.

2. We're going to need at least one RB/maybe two. They come in three forms (1) a thumper, (2) home run hitter and (3) all purpose back. (Note: Moreno fits a 4th category - a home-run hitting thumper - but unless we pull off a huge trade, we're not going to get him).

3. FYI - I just posted the Offensive Player write-ups on the BRS and came up with the following:

Thumpers
1. Moreno (a bit light at 208 lb/4.45)
2. Andre Brown (228 lbs/4.49)
4. Shonn Green (235 lbs/4.55)
8. Cedric Pearman (also light at 208 but is more of a thumper even though he ran a 4.45)
9. Javaris Williams (208/4.45)
10. Beanie Wells (237/downgraded due to his 4.59 Combine forty. If he could run north of 4.55 on his pro day, I'd probably move him back up).

Home Run Hitters
3. McCoy (210/War Room has a sick 4.30 time for him that needs rechecking)
5 Donald Brown (210/4.51)
6. James Davis (210/4.48)
7. Kory Sheets (206/4.47)

And - I still have a suspicion there may be mutual interest between the Cards and Dedrick Ward.

4.3 time for mccoy huh?

did he KR/PR in college?

if so he is worthy of the 1st round pick. Call it the Chris Johnson syndrome.

On Wells, that's kind of an extreme downgrade. We might have a shot at him, and we'd have to take that into consideration.

I myself wouldn't take a running back in round one. To many other needs, and running back tend to work out good in later rounds. With Warner coming back next year, it's probably wise to make Edge play out his deal. Too bad Edge we paid you already, and your needed. You'll start your fair share again. Depending on your output.

Anyway Jeff I can't believe you didn't include Rashard Jennings in your list. I think he's a viable possibility for this team. Andre Brown is another one I'd like to see in Cardinal RED.:):newcards:
