Lars the Red said:Why exactly do we need lawyers? Your saying they fill a need, exactly what is that? Is it to read a contract? Contracts were initially written with the intent to be readable by a layman. Simple, basic, to the point. Now we need an interpreter to dig their way through them and understand a language only they understand. Why? Because they wrote it. It's as absurd as hiring someone to draw up a contract for you that only will do it in German. Considering neither I nor the person I'm having the contract written for speak German, means he'll have to hire his own German speaker to tell us what it says. And God forbid it's in a different dialect than what he's used to or it could be interpreted differently than intended, which of course is what happens regularly with contracts written in legalese.
One could argue that lawyers are only necessary because they've managed to create their own niche. They tell you on TV, 'I'll fight for you', but fail to tell you that even though the settlements they get are usually larger than those people get when representing themselves, the amount of money the victim receives is less. Oh sure, fluffing medical bills and calling in 'experts' is hard work, but who really benefits? Not the guy that needed the money, that's for sure. They will gladly draw up a contract for you (for a fee), or read a contract for you (for a fee). Then if you want out of your contract, they will again look for a loop hole in that contract (that they wrote or look over for you and charged you for already, and charge you another fee).
The one's that work so hard to give quality representation to horrific criminals are also just peaches. They make victims appear to be criminals, criminals appear to be victims, and do everything they can to create a jury of people with IQ's of a bad baseball game. This to simplify their job of manipulating the truth, because we all know that the truth isn't really important in a court of law.
Save the righteous indignation. My original comments came as a rebuttle to someone whining that shots were being taken at agents unfairly (which was crap) and not all agents are lawyers (which is true, but only a small percentage aren't). If everyone would have jumped on the bash the insurance agent bandwagon, I would probably have replied also. But to carry things to this degree is stupid. I say a can't stand lawyers, you say that's narrow minded. Oh well, move on.
Lars, you are a complete moron.
Now I can move on.
