Let's see, 3-yrs. of playing regularly vs. 2-yrs. standing and watching and 1-yr. actually playing...yeah, that' the same. Harrington is proof that McCown that will always suck...no room for improvement...yup. One guy is a lost cause and the other guy will "set our franchse at QB for the next 8 years." Yup...umm-hmm!

Comprehension problem?

My post said IF you believe it takes 3 years of starting to be great or very good why not grab the guy who has played his 3 years? This way we do not wate 2 more FULL years on developing someone else?

Get it? Its really, really super easy math when you think about it. Addition and subtraction really. not even a fraction in their

Wow. Last I heard , Lions were ready to dump McMahon. So if they dump Harrington, do they go after another Jeff Tedford coached QB, as in Aaron Rodgers ? or do they pick up a veteran? So now the Lions have a power struggle between Millen and Mariucci.

Harrington is fools gold. He's basically a stronger Jake Plummer, minus the enigmatic playmaking ability. That's my take anyway.

I would be surprised if the Lions release Harrington, given that they then end up in our situation. I'd take a chance on him. He's proven a lot more than McCown has, and he's also faced better divisional competition these past couple of years.

Yes, you are right. I must have a comprehension problem, 'cuz I didn't get any of that out of your post. I just got the usual Josh bashing, and the claim that Harrington would set our QB situation for the next 8 years.

Seeing as how Josh wasnt even mentioned and the 8 years was in a different post ID say you are correct!

here is the post you quoted just so everyone knows what I am talking about. LOL And the fact that you cannot get the simple math that Joey is at 3 years and McCown isnt is quite funny. :D

Yup and for all those that thinks it takes years to become an nfl qb. Harrington fits you as well. 3 years as starter right? Lightbulbs coming on as they say. Seems he is the perfect fit for everyone.

The more I see of Steve Mariucci the less I'm impressed.

I once thought he was a pretty good HC. I'm not so sure anymore.

Russ, I'm sure you know a lot more about this, but I've always had the feeling that Mariucci's past caught up with him in SF and his great exodus to Detroit has yielded far less than many expected.

In defense of Harrington, I think the whole Detroit situation is a rotten one now. I don't think I'd want to be a player there at the moment.
Not only is there questions regarding coaching, but as has been pointed out, both Rogers and Williams having missed as many games as they have has to be part of the "problem" too.

I don't see the Cards realistically being that interested in him. I really don't think he would be that good a fit here with the other personnel we have now.

My first guess is, he will stay in Detroit, and if they can get their house cleaned up more and with a healthy Rogers and Williams in the lineup, he won't look so bad after all.

Mariucci took over a really good team and did pretty well with it. But the team steadily declined under him.

He inherited a team that won 13-11 and 12 the prior 3 years. They won a Superbowl in 94 and then lost to the Pack in 95 and 96, Seifert took the fall, with Trestman. Mariucci was the hot coach at Cal so they brought him in and kept Walsh around as consultant.

I always said he got credit for taking Seifert's players and doing no better than Seifert did. The defense fell apart while he was there. Not a bad coach but not a great one. He basically was going to be canned 2 years earlier but he surprised people going 12-4 and got an reprieve, 10-6 the next year got him canned.

Remember he didn't pick Harrington, Mornhinweg did when he was the Detroit coach but he only got one year before Mooch got fired and they fired him to hire Mooch.

Must've been the fractured syntax and complete lack of punctuation that made it impossible to understand.

I'm thinking Detroit is one more draft away from winning that Division. That was a bad team that Millen and Mooch inherited. Ford will spend the money and they have a very good young nucleus. They should probably have a good shot at winning the North next year.

They lost some close games last year.
5 of their losses were by 6 points or less.

Maybe they are just a few players away. I enjoyed watching them on NFL Ticket.

Almost sounds like you are describing the Cardinals.

This guy would set our frqanchse at QB fo rthe next 8 years.

I would sign him in a heartbeat! he isnt Joe Monttana but he will, with our recievers, make Josh look like the insurance salesman he is.

No Joey is the product of the system he comes from, and that is why I don't want him here. It would be like having two players like Josh on the team. Great arms but cannot finish the deal.

Just saw this on the KFFL wire. I think they will keep him but try to add an experienced qb just as the Cardinals are planning to do with McCown.

Lions | Harrington Release Speculation Shot Down - from www.KFFL.com
Wed, 12 Jan 2005 12:38:32 -0800

DetroitLions.com reports the Detroit Lions are shooting down speculation that they may be interested in releasing QB Joey Harrington. "We have absolutely no intention of releasing Joey Harrington, and there has been no organizational discussion about cutting Joey as suggested in the article. Joey had his best season this past year, and we firmly believe that he will continue to improve. We consider the report baseless and untrue," the Lions said in a team-released statement.

The system that he is in has him throwing 5 yard passes each time. When the qb coach took over the playcalling the last 3 games, he had two 300 yard games.
