When he is on the ground essentially cowering in fetal position protecting himself because he couldn't fight back and you punch at him twice on the ground... that is a sucker punch. Getting angry and throwing the official's arm away in disgust is a clear violation. If people are getting suspended $75,000 for hits that only years ago are were legal, then this type of had better be dealt with suspensions or Goodell loses all credibility.

He had every right to be angry and fight with him, but his actions were definitely suspension worthy, even if Finnegan deserved it.

A sucker punch is when you hit an unsuspecting apponent, not when you continue to pummel the little bitch after he hits the ground.

I'll be in the minority; i'm ok with it. Johnson escalated this fight not Finnegan. So by your definition, it could be. How did hitting someone on the ground become the 'manly' position?

Johnson DID escalate the fight.....but Finnegan instigated it..................there are way too many candy asses in the world these days who are of the belief that they can start smack with someone and not get beat down for it.....finnegan now knows that is not the case.

you cant just say you disagree with the definition of a word. Sucker punch = punching someone when they are not expecting it. That is the definition.

Exlamation point is beating theyr ass some more after they give up.

Maybe if he saw a punch coming and dived to the ground and curled up you laugh and walk away but he deserved the punches.

Next time i come to a game ima smack you int he nuts and see what you think

Good luck with that.

You aren't funny. This will be your only warning about taking things personally.

He deserved, but should be suspended for it too. I think this point is being lost in translation.

Not defending Finnegan because he is a dirty player but he didn't throw any punches. It would be an injustice if only Finnegan gets suspended.

Agree. I don't think you can let a player punch another player in the back of the head and not have some sort of repercussions.

In a perfect world, the instigator/agitator will realize the errors of his ways and cease to be the antagonist, because it is his or hers ethical and moral duty. In the real world, it takes a beat down to get that point across. I have long held the belief that a poke in the beak is much more effective than a stern lecture.

In a real fight mercy will get you no where. I will assume you have never had to get in a fist fight and if that is the case, that is great. If you ever do, the off switch should not be used. ;)

BTW, hitting someone in the back of the head is not a good thing. Easily could break your own hand.

Via NFL rules, BOTH players should be disciplined, rather it be fat ass fines or a short suspension, and the punishments should fit the crimes no doubt.

and IMO both should get both heavy fines and suspension. Johnson at least 1 game and Finnegan 2.

Oh, I've been in my share of fights, mostly in college. It's hard to find that off switch when someone pushes your buttons.

Still, there are situations where you have to maintain composure, ie when you're at work. Yeah, yeah, I know the NFL is different than other professions, but they still have rules and players are expected to follow them.
