He is not going to push much for WR playing time IMO. Fitz, Roberts, Floyd are set in stone, plus add to the fact BA likes dual TE's and it leaves no room for much playing time for a 4th or 5th WR. On he might get time in the reverse, fake reverse, pistol, and the like type roles. I think he mostly feels the role of return man and special teamer. Little known fact about him is that as a gunner last year he recorded a very good 10 tackles. And we need gunners as a few guys that filed that roll in the past are leaving in FA.

If you were a screenwriter, the studio would tell u they're casting Ryan Gosling as the young up and coming blogger, Mathew Mconagehy as his recovering alcoholic webmaster, Rachel McAdams as his rival blogger and Jaden Smith would play Cribbs... Who's not only missing... But secretly an alien!

Greenlit.

Can Cribbs fill in as a 3rd down RB in the LSH mode?

Thanks for answering a question that I was gnawing on as I considered a possible Cribbs addition. I thought I remembered Cribbs playing gunner on special teams for the Browns, but I couldn't say for sure.

Cribbs and Bethel should be a good gunner pairing. LSH was so good in that role, but we couldn't put him there once he became the work-Shetland-pony back, and I think our return teams suffered for it.

It'll be interesting who take Mike Adams' shoes as a third gunner.

I was thinking this too on Special Teams as a gunner...maybe we should re-sign the Money Midget for that and at least he can play a nickel position on defensive pass downs which would see him more on the field than Cribbs might. I will say this as well though, if Cribbs is only good for one TD this season...compared with the offense from last season, he is worth it LOL

Cribbs visiting Cardinals

Per Cabot, Cribbs flew to Arizona on Sunday night to visit with the Cardinals, take a physical, and possibly sign a new contract.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians knows Cribbs well from Arians’ time in Pittsburgh. And given the fact that Cribbs played quarterback at Kent State, he would automatically become the second-best passer on the roster.

Of all the Cardinals free agent signings- signing WR Josh Cribbs would make as much sense as any. Cribbs immediately fills the #4 WR, KR, PR and "Pistol" QB roles.

The Cardinals and Josh Cribbs both need each other, lets hope this deal gets done ASAP.

Go Cardinals!

Comment by a Steeler fan on Mendenhall: "I hope he enjoys sitting on the bench with Arians and his 5 wide Bubble Screen offense." What is that all about?

Just typical fan exaggeration?

According to FO's 2012 almanac, the Steelers were in 3+WR sets 57% of the time in 2011 (7th in the NFL) and 4+WR sets 12% of the time (4th).

Interestingly, Playaction was rarely part of the Pittsburgh playbook. They were 22nd in play action percentage in Arians' final year there (22).

Interesting stats.

Another comment I read recently was that Art Rooney Jr. said Arians was not renewed because he wanted Pittsburgh to return to their "blue collar roots" on offense. So I don't expect to see the Cardinals playing power football any time soon.

Didn't know that Arians had "retired" prior to taking the Colts job.

PACardfan explained that. Some former players including Hines Ward went to ownership and complained that BA was too close to Big Ben and that among other things led to his not being re-signed. It seems it turned out a little better for Indy that for the Steelers-they ended up in the playoffs and the Steelers got an early start on their golf games.

The Steelers used 2 back formations only 12 percent of the time in 2011. But they were in the top 10 that year in using 2TE/6OL formations, 39% of the time (8th).

Interesting statistic!

I've been thinking about how Oklahoma left tackle Lane Johnson would fit into B.A.'s offense. He's a former QB and a former tight end. In the jumbo packages, they could make him an eligible receiver on the end of the line and give the defense something else to think about. In other words, give the Niners some of their own medicine.

Hmm. Isn't there a certain QB from West Virginia that runs this offense REALLY well? I can't seem to remember...:D

Amazing - All of the recent buzz about Cribbs have emanated from the same source, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The initial story a week ago was from Cabot. All the stories within the past day came from the same piece by Cabot (reverberating within the blogosphere like one big, dumb giant-sized echo-chamber).

We are being treated to an inside glimpse at how stories gain traction regardless of their eventual accuracy. Hopefully, this latest one will be legit.

I saw a couple tweets from random people that said they saw Cribbs on their flight to Phoenix. So there is that as well.

One of those random people was reported to be Cabot. (It wouldn't surprise me if every random person turned out to be Cabot. It's how stuff gets circulated in a modern media environment).

Doesn't matter whether he signs or not. William Powell can return kicks. Does 3.5 yards per kick return really make that much difference?

in comparing the two: if on the first 9 KO returns each does 20 yards, but on the 10th -- powell does a 20 yarder, and Cribbs does a 55 yarder --

then the 3.5 yard average does matter
