just read an SI article on the Markelle Fultz problem not going away, yet JJ's stats make him look good. if he was a little better assist guy and and Josh wasn't one of our better defenders, Fultz might be a swap to consider.

Actually, I think that JJ needs patience. His thinking is fine, he knows what he should have to do, but he is usually manouevring himself into a position where escape is not easy from especially the quick and predictable way that he usually tries to do.

The athletisicm, talent and effort is there but he needs time.

And he was starting to get some of it back under Triano (who is a below average coach, but who at least knows what he's doing), only to lose it completely under Kokoskov the way he did under Watson. Hmmm...

JJ did not have discipline in college, he just did not have the same competition. JJ is doing better as of now. I believe JJ just tries to hard to begin with. He must have also been reading boards that talked about JJ as a pg and believed he could do it. He started forcing passes. Add to that an unfamiliar offense for everyone involved and he ends up getting a lot of turnovers. JJ has improved in the last few weeks, and I think he will continue to do so as the season progresses.

Again. The thing that I think he needs to focus on is being a lock down defender. He can do that. The needs to be the bread and butter of his game.

Hope for atleast a Marion 1.5 out of JJ, defense and a little bit of scoring. Marion was a terrific defender and great rebounder for his size. Marion still has a better 3pt shot right now.

His shooting percentages are the same or worse than last year. How else is that possible with such a glaring weakness and a whole long offseason?

He also must never watch tape because if he did, he would see how bad of shots he takes.

He may be one of those guys that is out of the league in 3 years, and then maybe works his way back in the league realizing he has to work hard and find a role as a defender and open court player first...

Just throwing this out there, there have been guys without outside shots that played long careers in the NBA. Rebounding, defense, and hustle will get you on a lot of teams. Almost every night we play against at least one guy on every team that we like, who don't shoot from the outside. Montrezl Harrell comes to mind immediately.

Yes, but the guys who make careers out of that are bigger and stronger than Jackson. Wispy wings who have no skills but "play hard" are a dime a dozen.

This is not necessarily true. There have been a lot of wings who were Jackson's size or smaller who were defensive specialists and made great careers. What they did was play within themselves and not try to be "the guy" on offense.

And they were smart enough to join the NBA when the average team could still get away with an offensive void at one or two positions. In today's game, this kind of player spends a lot of his time on the bench. I'd hate to see JJ relegated to that group but he has to improve his outside shot and his judgement with the ball (shot selection, driving or passing into a crowd etc.).

Well, if JJ is going to turn into that type of player I hope the Suns can trade him before everyone else knows it. But it goes without saying that I'd rather him play his way into a permanent starting 5 spot with us.

Ehh i wouldnt even go that far, at least Roberson has some basketball IQ and doesnt turn it over every time you pass to him.

JJ only hope is to understand his role and stop trying to be Kobe and hes at best worth a roster spot in the NBA.

I'm agreeing a lot with previous posters.

Jackson needs to become a defensive stopper and get most of his points in transition, close-in shots and garbage points. Over time he may be able to extend his shooting range once he gains confidence in what he can do.
