He just said the Cards are close to extending Whis and everyone will be impressed with the numbers and how committed the Cards are to Whis.. And we should know in around 4-5 days.. I think that was the time frame he said..

I would jump for joy. That would the single biggest off season extension EVER bar none.

As long as Dave Munsey didn't report it, we're good.

That is good news. Can't believe the crap we had in McGinnis & Green before him.

just announced... 85 years, 4 billion dollars, and when he eventually passes away they'll freeze his head and spine with that cryo company in Scottsdale and when we get immortality in a few thousand years, they'll defrost him to reign forever as the head of all universe sports.

Wow! Now that's some dedication! Go cards! :D

I sure hope LaCava is right on this one. He is usually pretty well informed. I don't recall him laying out a lot of phony rumor stuff. I probably respect him more than any other writer in the valley.

I also respect Lacava he does not just throw stuff out without some facts. Anyone remember the old 620 sports talk with Lacava and Hacksaw before him?

Based on what Shannahan and Carroll got you have to assume that that will be AT LEAST what Whis will get. Both got 5 years $35 mill. I'd guess Whiz is somewhere in this ballpark, if not higher.

If I were Whis and I saw the moves that the Front Office was making to give me a team for next year, I'd lock up that extension, as well.

You really don't want to be in a Dick Jauron situation.

The Cards have a budget for payroll. What Whis gets paid comes out of that budget. The more he gets the less we have for DD etc. Having said that I hope the Cards extend Whis for many years.

If it does get done they most likely wont announce anything until after the combine.

On a side note I dont think this neccisaraly means money or years. While that may be part of it but "how committed the Cards are to Wiz" could very well mean spending money in other places, such as a shaded field, new training rooms, new video rooms, and so on.

We don't know what that budget is, nor if due to the stadium and recent success, ownership has been able to save up additional funds relative to years past.

Hmmm, for the long term: Whis? DD?, Whis? DD?, Whis? DD? I'll take Whis.

I predict 6 years 22 million.
1 - 3
2 - 3.5
3 - 3.5
4 - 4
5 - 4
6 - 4

No way. IMO contact HAS to be in the 5 million range based off the extensions that McCarthy in GB and Payton in New Orleans signed.

I would say those are probably better comparisons than Shanahan and Carroll like people were throwing out earlier, and I tend to agree.

WRONG!!!

They come out of two different budgets. The team has a salary cap for players...X amount can only be spent per year...

Coaches are paid directly from the owner of the team...they can pay them anything they want...1 billion down to 1 penny per year...it is up to the coach and the owner to work out.

Any $ for DD and the rest are completely different animals.

The salary cap is not a player salary budget. The salary cap is only a tool to make sure teams dont overspend and to make sure teams spend a certian amount. It is only a tool to help with competitive balance. The Cap accounting method never ever equals out to what the owner spends that year. It does not reflect what is actually spent on players per year.

Player salaries, coaches salaries, front office salaries all the way down to the secretaries all fall under the teams operations budget.

See Joeshmo's reply. My point is the Bidwills only have so much money. Snyder of Jackass Jones can afford to pay their coaches whatever they want because they have deeper pockets then the Cards.

As always, thanks Joe.
