that felt like a big ball of meh to me. That said, I'm a big fan of the director's first movie and Chris Pratt is on fire right now, so I'll withhold judgement until I start seeing more/reviews.

felt like one big thing missing from that trailer was a money shot... of SOMETHING. Maybe that's a good thing... saving stuff for the big movie. But i just think at this point, dinos might be a little played out.

FWIW, Batman Returns, released in 1992 (JP was 1993) was the first to use digital sound.

I know.... picky, picky..... ;)

Jurassic park was the first to use DTS Digital Surround Sound. It was beating advertised as the new standard in Digital Sound and it was. Nothing came close to it.

I remember specifically from that point forward making sure the theater I watched my movies was "DTS" capable.

Batman Returns was the first to use Dolby Digital. Jurassic park was the first to use DTS Digital Surround Sound (AC3). It was being advertised as the new standard in Digital Surround Sound. I still think it's the superior surround mix compared to Dolby Digital. I remember specifically from that point forward making sure the theater I watched my movies was "DTS" capable.

Now the new format, Dolby ATMOS, trumps all..... for now.

the sound was INSANE for that movie. The theater literally rumbled during that first T-Rex scene. That was an incredible experience.

the rest of the movie? eh. The book was incredible and I always felt like the movie just felt like a kid's movie for the most part. Handled most of the terrifying stuff with kid gloves... or not at all. I was super disappointed walking out of that flick.

Agreed. I had never experienced sound like that in a theater before. In fact, I went to see a different movie on the weekend it opened and when that T-Rex scene started, we could hear it in our theater and feel the bass.

It made me regret not seeing it right away. The next day I went because I had to see the movie after that. The T-Rex was simply amazing. That and when the Velociraptors screamed.

P.S. If memory serves me correctly I went to see Cliffhanger with my then girlfriend instead of seeing JP on opening night. After two of my action movies in a row....she picked our next movie (Sleepless in Seattle).

I was disappointed that Hammond lived

Yup

Hammond was completely different in the movie versus the book.

yeah... he was a SOB in the book, iirc.

The book was just so much edgier then the movie. I mean, the T-rex saving the day at the end... ugh. That would have been like if Spielberg made Jaws and at the end of the movie, a bunch of smaller sharks all attacked the boat and Jaws saved the crew from them with triumphant music playing!

I was in heaven when they first entered the park and John William's theme music masterpiece was playing while giant dinosaurs roamed the park. That was movie magic right there.

I guess my problem with the trailer is if we assume the movies were reality, who in the world would possibly think it's a good idea to actually open the park, and create a mutant dinosaur? Given what happened the first 3 times just seems completely implausible.

But I'll certainly go and see it.

Good point. Maybe it was an evil scientist. :p
