I know he is the cardinals insider..but he points out 3 things:

1. The cardinals have given $35 million in cash plus $15 million in capital improvements for a parking garage at ASU...I do not think this includes money ASU made on other stuff..seems to imply this was cash paid out by cardinals ($35 - $50 million). Jurecki thinks the $6 mil claim by smith was way off base..

2. arbitrator ruled in favor of cardinals..

3. Thinks gene smith coming out ripping the cardinals..saying he is glad plummer is in colorado and suggs was passed by cardinals..was uncalled for.

Sure jurecki has riled up ASU fans...

I do not know much about the situation..just reporting what jurecki is saying on the radio..

Gene Smith has really rubbed me the wrong way.

His comments are petty, and he is almost lying to us telling us the University only made $6 mill. off the Cards. To me, it seems like Smith is making an emotional plea to fans in the valley and that just shows you how weak his argument is.

ASU has made 10 of millions off the Cards, and when the Cards seek what they are owed they look greedy....what a shame.

This, to me, seems like a last ditch attempt of a very desperate man. From a business stand-point, the athletic department at ASU continues to be near the bottom of the Pac-10. The cannot sell tickets to thier two highest profile programs, giving to the Sun Angles continues to be marginal, and despie huge cuts, he has been unable to eliminate the deficit.

Keep in mind, as pinnacle pointed out, it is a safe bet that MJ is working with information that most people don't have on the one.

That is because the Cards have made their bed for the most part over the years so benefit of doubt will NEVER fall their way. They could be right as the day is long, but due to many many previous foulups, they will always perceived as being wrong.

The only question to be decided is how wrong was ASU.

I never suggested anything else but the Cards image is still they are wrong...because of all their PR disasters and not enough PR wins...or winning for that matter. The Cards are 100% right legally, apparently, but that doesn't change the fact people still think they are screwing ASU.

If MJ is right, and there really is more to the story than Gambodora's hard hitting journalism revealed, then I suspect that may change.

Does anyone know if the $6 million Smith was referring to was the Net amount ASU made after stadium expenses and other expenses were paid, or was he referring to the Gross amount ASU recieved from the Cardinals?

And as others have said, if ASU was suing the Cards, everyone would be jumping for joy. The Bidwells bad rep is pretty sad.

Finally someone points out the obvious!!!

Both parties(ASU and Cardinals) are saying the same EXACT thing, yet they're using different terms...ASU made 6 million off of the Cards, but the Cards paid way more than that to ASU...The difference is that ASU lost almost as much money by letting the Cardinals play there, as they made off of the Cardinals playing there...Pretty sad, when looking at other College teams sharing their stadiums with other NFL teams??? BIG TIME!!!
ASU has already gotten raped by the Cards, yet the Cards want more...They're going to pay for this in sales all the way from tickets to merchandise. I guarentee you that there are more ASU fans, Cardinal haters, people that hate paying taxes(see team getting a publically funded stadium, and that team also happens to be demanding $$$ from a public institution that all Arizonans pay for)...Will Bill ever learn? Damn, I hope so, because I'll always be a fan of the team(despite the pathetic ownership).

This has turned into a very ugly situation.

I am glad that the Cards and ASU are parting company.

I bet ASU is pretty upset that once the new stadium is up and going that they are going to be losing revenue from the NFL games and the Fiesta Bowl. ASU is looking at a big drop in revs and that could be affecting attitudes today.

ASU is wrong and the neutral arbitrator agrees. If you can't see that, then you are letting your ASU bias blind you.

And ASU has already PROVEN that they can't be believed. They tried to say that they have only made 6 million off of the Cardinals, and the Cards PROVED that they have payed ASU over 32 million dollars over the course of their partenership. ASU lied, so I really can even believe that they lost money last year.

It might be that the Cards are talking Gross and ASU is talking NET. The Cards may have paid over 30 mill but after expenses ASU nets 6. Big difference.

That being said I think ASU is seeing the writing on the wall concerning a big drop in Revs once the new stadium is built.

Also, the Cards probably need the money for the new stadium. There is a cap on how much the public will pay and the Cards are liable for the rest. This could be some of the motives behind each of the parties...IMO

ASU has been running thier department in the red for how long and we are going to take their word on the "NET" v. "GROSS". Yeah right.

Exactly. I don't believe anything Gene Smith has said. He started out using petty insults against the Cards, so I really have to question his integrity.

Someone please explain to me what the hell it matters between Gross and Net???

The Cardinals payed them 31 million dollars PERIOD! I could care less what actual profit ended in ASUs pocket as a result the bottom line is they were payed the 31 million dollars! Regardless of what they netted out of that!

Besides if they only netted 6 mill from 31 then they really are some morons!

Azcentral had a poll over the weekend on the topic, and around 86% of the people who responded sided with ASU. Somtimes one can be legally right, but morally wrong.

As Jureki Mentioned, the Cardinals also helped with parking and renovating ASU. I think ASU used the money given to them poorly. They asked for a specified amount, were given it and didn't use it effectively and are now crying for more. I bet you if a person who was really business savy was the one making the financial decisions for ASU in the past 20 years, they wouldn't be in the prediciment they find themselves in today.
