not sure why everyone assumes this is the case. i'll believe the NFL punishes him under the old rules when I see it. They can't afford more public relations nightmares and I'm betting he gets 6 games regardless. It's not the NFL's fault they couldn't adjudicate his crime before he got suspended for something else.

The overall point is that no one knows what his punishment will be, and so to count on him is to hamstring yourself. We need to add a bunch of LBs, and if/when Washington comes back, he will need to earn a spot at that time.

its ultimately just a hunch of mine that I have not really seen repeated elsewhere but I would put money on it.

I fully expect a RB to added via FA. Spiller would be a good choice because he duplicates Jukes skills for the most part (Juke has WR skills) which BA has said he wants. Another thread has Sommers saying the Cards would be interested in AP if the Vikes cut him and I would love that even more.

Agree that Cro will move on and Bethel will step up.

Hope Fitz will make it work.

I expect DD to make it work.

The interior of the Oline "should" be set but it isn't. Cooper and Watford should have stepped up and taken over at this point. Can't bank on them at this point so a solid FA OG and then address the Oline at least once in the draft.

Of course if DWashout is reinstated he should be retained, at least until we have not only his replacement but great depth on the roster and it actually helps the CAP to cut him. This means 4 ILBers need to be acquired.

I think he will be suspended 6 games but it will be appealed down to 2-4.

I like Ellington and think he can be an effective back when he plays a certain role. But, I have trouble with him being called a feature back or one the best backs in the league. Lesean McCoy, Leveon, Bell, DeMarco Murray, Lynch, and Matt Forte are feature backs and are guys that can carry the load for an entire season.

Spiller is a good comparison for Ellington. He can excel in a role but is going to get hurt if you plan of having him be the bell cow.

I don't think people are thinking very rationally when it comes to Andre Ellington in 2015. Yes, he has 1300+ yards rushing--but that's over 2 seasons. He's never had more than 660 rushing yards in a single season, and last year he averaged 3.3 YPC. He had only 3 games out of a possible 12 where he averaged more than 4.0 YPC. Let's not get crazy here.

It's going to be fascinating to see where the free agent running back market ends up. Nothing's going to matter if we don't get Fitz's contract resolved. Dallas offered Murray $4M per season on a 4-year extension.

But won't he be suspended the 1st 6 games or so though?

He might be, but I'd think you'd want to have him as an option to play after his suspension is over. I also don't think there is going to be much hoopla over his suspension whether its 2 games or 6 with the national media. He hasn't be in trouble like that since. They'll suspend, there will be a news story about it and everyone will move on.

Recently? All I say to that is wow. That is peanuts when talking about the number one back in the nfl last year.

I don't know why anyone would want to be a running back anymore. Low reward, high risk. They will never get paid like they used to ever again. Especially since the draftees can't get mega contracts anymore. You've got a shot at 1 good extension deal after your rookie deal if you haven't worn down by then.

True. It sounds as though they have a backup plan now though. Not sure I believe it.

From the Cards site. Not sure how prepared they will be either.

"That’s a lot of uncertainty, and why team president Michael Bidwill said Thursday the Cardinals are going to go through the offseason ready to not have Washington available — and if he is around, the Cards will be that much better off."

Sounds to me like they are going to act as if they won't have DWashout so they will address the ILBer position in FA and the draft. Doesn't sound like they won't be prepared to me.

As much as I love Ellington, McFadden would be an amazing fit, I think. He's capable of carrying a full load, and doesn't have a ton of tread. Spiller doesn't really impress me, as I think he has Ellington's skillset, and can't be complimentary.

Bethel does not seem like a legit option at CB. But, we do still have Powers... right?

The problem is the reason he doesn't have that much mileage is he gets hurt every year.

He's not a very instinctive runner, the amount of times he runs into his own man is unreal.

1. If Cro leaves, and he will, a CB will be taken in round one or two, if we haven't signed one in FA. They can say what they want about Bethel, but until he does "it", he's still a question mark.
2. Durability of McFadden and Spiller is the issue. Not their talent. Is McFadden big enough to qualify as the big back?
3. I love Fitz and hope he stays and retires as a Cardinal. Money is important to him (like everyone else) and he'll get more in Arizona. If he leaves, WR is a big void, but Fitz also knows that he has more leverage to be targeted in Arizona, than anywhere else. I don't think that playing outdoors in NE or Denver would appeal to him. Dallas or Indy make more sense. If he does leave I just hope it's not to Dallas.

Seattle is the nightmare scenario

Ill be the first to say it. I bet they dont suspend him at all. I know the two things are irrespective but he sat out a year already and I bet if the Cards want to keep him they will petition for that.

I would say 2 games max though. But what do I know? Well see.

Ima big Dwash fan. Please come back big dog we need you. And dont mess up again :)

I'd be willing to take that bet. There's no possible way he doesn't get suspended. They're going to let him off the hook for assault... because he's already served time for a SECOND suspension based on something completely different? No freaking way. Sig bet for two months?
